What I believe can be stated quite simply:

Everything as I know it is organized into a category. Notice the food pyramid. The human mind's first function when brought into a new situation is to organize it's surroundings. This is what I know about myself not the readers, and writers of this post. So far as I know it I am a clean freak. It is very sad. So, yes at first glance of someone I might sort them into a category. However I know better than that. stare

The stereotypes people are placed are too simple to be people. The mind is too complex for it to consist of such simplistic style. So far as I know. stare

Ah, stereotypes.

According to my best friend, whom I love dearly (as much more than a friend...), I fit a lot of the butch stereotypes.
For instance, I...:
~wear guy pants
~wear baggy t-shirts
~have only one ear pierced...and it just so happens to be my right one
~have an intense dislike for skirts and dresses (only on my body)
~have boyish-ly short hair (above my ears)
~own less than 10 pairs of shoes
~can hold my own in a fight, thanks to karate
~can carry on a conversation with one of my guy friends for over 10 minutes...and actually understand what the hell they're talking about
~own swords and knives (3 swords, one knife)
~will not buy 'girly-smelling' perfume (only vanilla floats my boat)
~feel awkward walking into Victoria Secret
~get weird looks walking into said store
~rarely wear makeup, and when I do, it's eyeshadow only

Now, how many of you thought, "Jeez...she IS a lesbian..." just by the list?

Yes, I'm so close to being one that I might as well just classify myself as one instead of explaining the whole '95% gay, 5% bi' thing, but still. My parents have even tried to get me to take more feminine-looking things out to college with me.

It's my wardrobe, it's my body, and it's my life. I'll wear what I please and do as I please, and I promise you I can do it without stepping on too many toes.

Personally, I think stereotypes are childish. I've seen some of my 'skater' friends call someone 'preppy' for being all emotional, then turn around and angst about 'Oh my god...does he like me?"

Plainly put, stereotypes are classifying people into groups so that people can somewhat 'identify' them with certain behaviors and dress of that group.

Not everyone dresses the same. Not everyone acts the same. If you're going to classify me, put me into the 'misfit' group, since I fall between the cracks when it comes to stereotypes.

I wish you good day.

i would certainly call you a tom-boy, but i'ld never call anyone a lesbian.

Stereotypes are a natural thing for humans to do. Can't do anything about it.

I think the people in this guild are opinionated people who overthink everything! There's my contribution for the stereotype gaia historians. ha ha... And I'm included in that.

I'd love to rant on this subject, but I know I'll just get aggro and spin my head like I was possessed, and nobody wants to see that.

Biggest problem with stereotypes, is that every jackass has their input to what a stereotype "does" based on their personal experiences. Well, people are different... everywhere! So, while I grew up with some goth vampire fanatics who thought drinking blood was cool... I've also known the artfag type goths, the coffeeshop goths, the cemetary goths and the death-obsessed goths. Oooh... and then I stumble into the "goth thread" on Gaia, and get in some massive brain brawl only to discover I'm argueing with kids about half my age. Now, I could easily say the young generation of goths are idiots, and poof, a stereotype is born. But instead, I recognize that i was argueing with specific bullheaded ignorant kids.

The question is, how many people must do a set behavior for it to be officially a "stereotype?" And can a people of one region completely change how society views all of the people in that class? Like with the Columbine Shooting... or even the early 1990's Seattle grunge boom. Both social events caused shockwaves of stereotyping to shoot across the nation... and maybe even the world.

Great. See what you did? Now I'm ranting... just like I said I wouldn't. ha ha...
