Pretty much the everything on the first page has been used except for APS-tan's suggestion, which will take sometime to work through, but will be very interesting to play around with.

hmm as for new ideas...
some kind of mythical creature inspired.. like phoenix or dragon..
did anyone suggest emotions yet? I think someone did..
grah i wanna help but right now my mind is blank of ideas.. maybe i'll edit this latter xD

fan art would be fun, but i don't like the "closest to the original" idea
i mean, then you could just trace or eyeball it D:
and i think that being able to put another character into your own style while keeping then recognizable is pretty hard to do.
