Chiba-Sakura anime a japanese cartoon based on the manga. Used to tell legends and old folk tales that have been modified of a figment of ones imagenations What I'm getting at here is the nation of origin. Sure, all animation made in Japan is anime, but can't Avatar, made in the US, be an anime as well? Most of you have agreed with me, but you can't get a discussion going is you don't have some dissenters.

I beleve Anime is any cartoon/animeation that expresses Japanese culture/ belief. I think that avatar is somewhat of an anime...but at the same time I think it is not an anime........ I really like the show, its one of my fave cartoons. It just feals like it is a VERY america anime/cartoon. Still I'm a strong Anime person......so at the same time as saying that Anime is any cartoon/animeation that expresses Japanese culture/ belief....I also think that anime is only something that has been spoken in Japanese. ^ ^

So you think that Avatar is an anime, yet at the same time, it's not? So is it half an anime?

But then part not because it did not orignate from Aisan manga/animeators. XP.......Srry If I was so confusing XD

well it's kinda funny cause when I was writing a essay about anime(Or animation) my friend just told me well if you want to make it professional, you got to used the word animation to make people understand it since anime is what jp ppl called it <---anyway,it douns funny to me cause no wonder when I said anime to other ppl they dun get it
But anyway the first ppl who make a manga into a storyboard is the artist of Asher boy,and the first animation I think it's from western

Oh, I think there was manga before Astro Boy, just that that comic was so revolutionary, it changed everything. Yes, as far as I know, the first animation was from America. By Walt Disney himself, or one of his contemporaries.

I beleve the first animetion ever made was by a lady that used paper cut outs and a shadow technique....I beleve it was the story of Sinbad or one of the Arabian(sp?) night stories......they played the movie about a year ageo on TMC right after/arround the time of all of the Hayao Miyazaki films were played. biggrin ( srry I strayed a little from the topic XD)

Blade678 I would say anime is only stuff which come from Japan otherwise it's a cartoon. I agree with that 3nodding , because personally, I don't agree that (no offense) Avatar is an anime. There's just SOMETHING about it which disagrees with me. I tend to not enjoy anime that comes from other countries as much. Even if I have no idea where it came from. gonk I don't know if that made any sense at all...

Well, kakashi girl-san, perhaps it seems off to you because it was originally dubbed in English. Funny story about that, when first playing my Avatar DVDs, I looked for the language set up to see if there was subs. Then I realized that Avatar was made in English. sweatdrop
Well, I either don't get TMC at home, or don't watch it much, so I wouldn't have seen that. Sorry. But yeah, some of the first cartoons as we know them were made by Disney and his contemporaries. I read somewhere that Osamu Tezuka was influenced by Betty Boop (how my grandma loved that cartoon) and Mickey Mouse. So in the beginning there was some cross-pollination.

dark_acid_rain an·i·me (ān'ə-mā') n. A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art and often adult themes. [Japanese, short for animēshon, animation, from English animation.] I was going to post that...but decided to read more posts...lol
