Runaway Bride was on Beeb3 yesterday. Not sure why, but meh. Anyway, after watching that, I feel a lot happier about having Donna back. Also, no matter whether I like the character or not, Tate is a good actress, whether she's "funny" or not. Personally, I like her Lauren Cooper character, but it's all a taste thing really...

Maybe it's meant to be like Leela was originally meant to be. Originally Leela was conceived as a character who would be an ignorant, feral savage but in her travels with the Doctor she would gradually become civilized.
Donna was pushed as being really dumb, unobservant, completely clueless about the world around her, but at the end she promises she's going to travel & do things. If either she has already become a more experienced & knowledgeable person when she returns, or she is in the process of doing so & travelling with the Doctor becomes a part of that metamorphosis, then it could work.
If she's just going to continue to out-Tegan Tegan, it's NOT going to work.

My dad told me that not long ago. I think she'll be a fantastic companion for the Doctor. I admit, she isn't the sharpest fork in the drawer, but she's a heck of a lot better than Martha. Besides, Catherine Tate is hilarious. Her show is brilliant.
Still, I'd rather see Rose come back. But then again, who wouldn't? I've got my money on a season five reunion. I think the Doctor, Rose, Donna, and Martha should travel as a foursome. Then maybe the influence of Rose will change Martha into a more likable character. Comments?
Anyhow, that's all I've got to say. I hope Catherine Tate enjoys working full-time on the show.

Yeah, I think Davison himself said an intentionally argumentative companion was not one of JNT's brighter ideas for the show (in one of those short retrospective things on the Keeper of Traken DVD). As much as I'm loathe to admit it, Rose was a good complement for the 10th Doctor, whereas Martha and the Doctor just don't really seem to go well together as a team. I just don't see Donna and the Doctor having very good rapport. Eh... but who knows.
