Miakko has arrived, with a story about a very hairy fellow with red eyes that we all know and love.
And I'm not talking about Bigfoot.

Here is Mothman, with a face only a mother could love.
Yes, Mothman is a creepy fellow. Thank God I live on the other side of the country, over here in Oregon.
Interested? Here's this guy's story! :000!~

Go read it. It's pretty cool if you don't live in West Virginia, or any of it's bordering states or nearby. >:3;;

I actually watched that movie the other night. XD

I had no idea it was based [incredibly loosely, compared to the reading] on fact. :] I thought it might, but it seemed a bit ridiculous. I suppose not.

It was actually interesting, too.

Oh. And that picture there looks more like a owl than a moth. XD

Lol, I thought so too, but the other Mothman picture looked like a bowling pin. D:

A sexy bowling pin?

Ah. Well, I'm sure if we researched enough we could find the "super duper scary" versions of him in the movie. You know.

With the black chalk drawings and whatnot. XD

I've been living in WV for about 6 years and I haven't seen that (or really any other moths) yet... If someone got a giant lightbulb and lit it on the top of a mountain, we'd possibly get solid proof... or wake up the neighbor states. Another mountain dwelling monster, Tailypo.

Two years ago, my fiance and a friend of mine decided to go to Point Pleasant, WV to look for the mothman. (We're from Ohio, btw.)

We already knew where our campsite would be (Milton something, for any locals) but it got dark quicker than we anticipated. We finally got there at night, and once we found the campsite, we realized it was only for people with campers. So we drove around looking for anyone who might know where we could stay.

While we were looking for people to ask, we found the statue of the mothman (I'll post the pic if I can get it from my fiance.) And not that it has any relevance, but I also noticed a large number of bats in the area.

We finally found the police station, where a friendly sheriff gave us directions to another campsite down the road. He said it was free, so we didn't have to worry about any money. We liked that idea.

Anyway, the directions led us past a Dollar General sign with a HUGE dent in it (It really looked like something big had flown into it. Maybe the mothman has horribly manueverability in flight?) and down a road that eventually turned into gravel and dirt roads.

There were no street lights, so driving down them was kind of creepy. At some point, I think while we were on a gravel road, we saw two large red orbs about twelve feet off the ground in the darkness. And I swear to you, we all screamed like little girls and got the hell out of there. We got to the campsite, and my fiance started to set up our tent (which we all affectionately refer to as "a**-tent" because of how it smelled.) But my friend and I were still freaked out by what had happened on the road, and we ended up convincing my fiance to drive somewhere populated. We ended up sleeping in a hospital parking lot.

When we got back home, Hurricane Katrina was just hitting.

I looked some stuff up on the mothman, and found some pictures of the area the mothman is known to make appearences in, around this old TNT plant. Some of the pictures were of the campsite we were going to. I also found out a legend about the mothman: He is supposed to foretell tragic events.

I don't know if it was really the mothman we saw that night, but it scared the living hell out of all of us there.

I remember reading about Mothman in my "Strange and Unexplained Phenomenon" book and it scared me so badly. I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I'm terribly afraid of moths. But despite that, it was one of those monsters that seemed more alive then the others I had read about. I want to go the Point Pleasent just to check it out.

And, if I'm lucky, see the moth man >_>
