I love how this has become a rant thread. l3
Frankly, the best thing to do in public is say nothing about yaoi unless asked about it. Knowing ur audience is a good idea, too. I realize on the net this is nearly impossible except for the know ur audience crap, but u have to ignore the other stuff and not take it personally, gals--and guys. It's the same as liking anrtho characters. Just cuz u like cat ears on someone doesn't make u a furry. Just cuz u like yaoi doesn't make u psycho, similarly.
Besides, aren't the majority of the comments nice ones? (The ones from the yaoi fangirls, I mean.) Or am i being unbelievably naive?
confused question I agree with you there because if someone is flaming and just blatantly ignorant and it's on the net, it's easy to move on and block them, delete the comment, etc.
I believe that there are always going to be extreme people in everything (sports, theater, fandoms, etc.) and they are always going to ruin how everyone else perceives that group and it pisses me off to such an extent that I lose all thought.
Some of the people in my group at school are constantly the butt of jokes because some wear collars or cat ears and tails. Nearly half of us are gay/bi/lesbian and that somehow gives people the right to say "f*****t" or "freak" when they pass.
This year, one of my teachers is so inspiring because she tolerates no discrimination towards ANYONE and I'm glad she tells people off for saying "that's gay" in class.
