Wolverine's purpose as Weapon X was to kill other mutants, right? (I think that's it). Could X have a similar purpose (not neccessarily mutant related, but to kill a certain group of people, beginning with the Gambinos)?

He doesn't really have that kind of killing power though.
It's kind of intelligence too.

It could be to eliminate competition for some rich group/family.
