Was that Mrs. Louth who gave the homework? haha...

Anyway, I'm going in there tomorrow and asking to start up a pro-life group in support of my favorite debator.

Oh blast... Seems a flogging is in order, it slipped my mind today. Damn.

Remind me tomorrow, I'm so bloody absent-minded, I'll forget, I know I will. So tomorrow, when you say "Adrian, what are you supposed to do today?" and I'm like "What?" don't hit me. xd

Haha I'll totally beat you!
I'll also see if Straw Man will go ask. Although I think he's mad at me for telling him his opinion doesn't matter because he doesn't count as a person. xd

Toxic Most likely your principle is giving you a bunch of bull. You said you know this, but you need to stand up and make people take notice. As a college Junior I know how it feels to be going against the grain. make him show you precisely in any of the schools guidlines and regulations where it says that to have a pro-life group you must also have a pro-choice group. Its not there, trust me. If your in the USA and he tries to pull seperation of church and state, 1) thats not really in the constitution its just something the liberals made up to kick God our of government, 2) Tell him it isn't a religious issue, or if it is that pro-choicers are religious too. And of course if you make a pro-life group a pro-choice group will pop up anyway. Wish you the best of luck!

She's in Canada, A. B, no matter how much she tries, they can come up with any crockpot excuse to keep it down. I had administrations like that.

Wanna know the best part?

I go to a CATHOLIC school. We went to see if we could have a prolife group this year.

Nothing doing. In fact, we had to fight tooth and nail to let them offer a field trip to DC for the march, something we always do.

Why?

It's insulting to women. They shoulda looked around and counted the 9 girls and two boys, and those were the ones who were willing to go in and work day after day trying to get it together. We weren't allowed.

This makes me wonder if any student recently had an abortion...long shot, but I"m thinking it could happen.

Ugh. I went into the office and talked to the princpal but she said we couldn't do that because there's no choice group at the school. rolleyes

that's silly. it seems as though your principal isn't giving the students enough credit. i suspect she thinks you (and by you i mean the students in your school) are incapable of establishing intelligent dialogue about such highly contested issues as abortion - that it's up to the administration to make sure that all sides of the issue are represented. you could point out to her that you guys aren't preschoolers anymore, that high schoolers - surprising as it may seem to her - are generally smart enough and motivated enough to voice dissent and organize opposition groups if they want to. believe me, the lack of a choice group shouldn't be a problem for very long.
ideally, any principal should be able to understand that intelligent and productive dialogue begins only when one side/group is willing to - and allowed to - speak up. i wish you the best of luck in convincing your principal that the latter is crucial to dispelling ignorant stereotypes and needless animosity regarding the abortion debate, and that it is precisely by discouraging the formation of a prolife group that she is perpetuating ignorance and prejudice in her students. i wish i could give you more concrete advice about how to enlighten your school administration...but from your posts it sounds like you're a devoted, intelligent, and sensible person (sadly, common sense and intelligence seem to be mutually exclusive among the vast majority of so-called "intellectuals"), and i'm sure you'll find a way. wink

That's an awesome idea. I would start one, but I go to a Catholic School so it wouldn't make a difference. Did you know that you can't even post an article in the school newspaper where you are slanted to pro-choice? (I had wanted to do debate articles with a friend who is pro-coice.) Freedom of Speech my a**.

But yah, back to the point. Awesome idea, talk to the school's principal, ASB person (do you even have ASB? I dunno) and yah, go for it and enjoy it. And don't be a lazy bum like me friend who started a Japanese Culture club and barely runs it. pshh. lol okay I'm rambling.

ahh, of course it would make a difference...not all people who go to Catholic schools are Catholic, and not all Catholics are pro-life (ahem, will all the John Kerry's please stand up?). i'd bet that the vast majority of students in a Catholic high school haven't devoted ten brain cells to serious thought about abortion. i know a lot of Catholic school girls who have ended up pregnant, and many of them end up taking their "problems" to an abortion clinic. with a dedicated prolife group at your school, you could really change hearts and minds and reach out to those girls / boys who have to consider giving up a child...if you help just one person choose life, i'd definitely call that "making a difference." your group wouldn't have to exist on just an ideological plane, either. you could volunteer at crisis pregnancy centers, raise money/baby supplies to help mothers who choose life, etc. there's lots of room to be creative. so...i'd say, go for it...most definitely. =)
