Against her better judgment, she linked her arm through his. As her skin brushed his, a current that could only be described as a jolt of electricity lanced through her body and brought her gasping, her eyes slightly unfocused. Her hand gripped at his arm for support as she steadied herself.
Let go.
She told herself. Touching was making things worse. But she couldn't bring herself to withdraw her arm.
Heeeehheehehehe
She went rigid even as the hairs on the back of her neck stood on end.
She shivered despite the fact that she was not cold. In fact, it felt as if he flesh would burn off her very bones.
Managing to nod, she let him turn them towards home. A first, it was odd that she didn't protest or argue. Would he mark it as uncharacteristic? Or simply be relieved?
The horse would have already returned to the stables, and would be being rubbed down, groomed and fed.
She had nothing to worry about other than the haunting laugh... the man on her arm... and placing one foot in front of the other.
Nope.
Nothing to worry about.

If he had any indication of what state she was currently in, it was probably buried underneath the multitude of other thoughts crowding into his mind at the moment.
He had always viewed life as simply being made up of following orders.
Ever since he had first come to know her, his entire perspective on people in general had shifted-- downright nearly shattered.
Not too mention the kind of patience he had to cobble together in dealing with Elves to begin with. To anyone else, their maddening habit of pacing themselves and show of politeness would seem..well...haughty and indirect.
He had supposed this was as good a learning experience as any... but he had been deeply touched by his charge. He frowned inwardly.
Such complications...often did not end well.

Such complications indeed-- Heeheeehheeee!
The haunting voice laughed, a shrill and scathing sound that blistered the mind with a seething heat. It filled Sierra with dread, an echo of some horror, some atrocity from long ago. For a moment, her mouth fell open, and her limbs failed to work, sending the usually graceful woman into an uncharacteristic stumble.
Even as she reeled, grasping hold of Kasuga's arm and trying to regain her balance, the voice continued to taunt her.
Not end well? Heehee heeeee, the boy has a way of understating things...
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!!
Hee hee heeee heeheheee!
Her wings twitched as she fought the voice within,
"Ah--"

"Princess?"
He caught her of course even as she reached out to him, at her side without any bit of hesitation on his part. His hold on her was firm, yet not restrictively so. He was but like a leaf on a branch, one of many yet ever so present in the grand scheme of things.
He did not have the ability to read her thoughts, but he could tell something was visibly troubling her without having to study her bodily reaction.

"It's--"
'Nothing. Go ahead-- tell him it's nothing. He'll be gone shortly anyway, he'll never know. To him; it and you will be exactly that--'
"Hgn--"
She groaned even as her eyes flickered with some hint of darkness, some internal flame burning brighter as the anger began to rise within.
'I forgot how much of a b***h you can be.'
'Oh really? My feelings are hurt... shall I remind you?'
"I will walk with my face held to the light, damn your dark heart and damn your monstrous deeds. My mind is my own, grant me peace!"
'Peeeeace? Peace. I hate the word. But very well... for now.'
She spat the words under her breath, las if she were expelling a poison, with strength and determination, even though the very mention of light seemed to cause her pain. It was as if some weight lifted from her-- her face held relief.
For a moment, it looked as if she would fall, all strength drained from her limbs as she focsed every ounce of it to a point. But as she wavered, her back straightened and she pulled herself up tall. With an air of defiance, she let go of Kasuga's arm and smiled.
"My apologies... shall we?"
