"Wise words, were you able to accurately determine just how deep the cut would be for everything you chose to investigate. There are some minor differences between being cut, and being decapitated." An idle sweep of indigo tails before he sat back on his haunches, making him a bit smaller but not by much. "And not always is the reward as great as what you go through to get it. There may be no reward at all. I don't suppose you need to be lectured, though. You seem to think you know a lot."

A simple statement- he was quite good at deadpanning. He seemed to listen as she went on, his brows briefly furrowing as she answered his question slowly. "Ah... but you'd like them," It wasn't so hard to assume. Women, or most of them, were the chief promoters of love. They were the great nourishers, the bleeding hearts of the world. Just because Valefor happened to look intimidating didn't make her an exception. The fact she had a heart, to Xaldin, meant that it was bleeding.

"Perhaps you'll tell me..." His eyes cast out for Revelin as he was mentioned, watching the boy roll and toss the flowers in the air. "What do you see in children? Are they the future of the world? Are they the reflections of their parents? A continued legacy?"

Indeed she did know well about the words he spoke. She gazed at him for a moment through half-lidded eyes. How about this, then? "I think I know a lot, but then, perhaps I've gotten a big head after a millenia and more." She shrugged. "And sometimes the risk is its own reward."

His most astute observation brought little more than a snort from Valefor. She had since decided that she'd toss him some information, but how much she would decide as she went along. And at this point... she didn't particularly want to divulge anything about that particular aspect of her life. Especially considering her current issues with said aspect.

"Children... can be companions, students, and teachers to those that raise them. Future of the world? Perhaps. Perhaps they won't have much of a future at all. The most interesting thing about children is that above all, they belong solely to themselves. They might imitate their parents when they're young, but eventually they always decide to be their own person, whether that person "reflects" on who their parents are or not. They show us our strengths, and our weaknesses, and the flaws in the way we think. A legacy? A legacy is something you leave for people who come after you, not the people themselves. You can teach a child everything you know and they'll just as soon discard it as use it. Children always find ways to do things unexpected." She watched him for a moment more, eyes still half-lidded and perhaps slightly searching. "I suppose I see in children an opportunity to form a lasting bond for when I'm feeling lonely and sentimental but just as much an opportunity to learn more about myself, others, and the world around me." And make adjustments accordingly.

Several things were going through her mind by this point. Her painful emotional state, the distinct feeling that Xaldin found emotions something akin to useless, an inexplicable edginess, and a rather suprising offhand thought that she liked the color of his eyes. Something about him triggered an itch in her, is the only thing she could think to describe it as. The Aeon itch. Most of the people she'd encountered thus far triggered response from her kitsusagi side, her soft side. He somehow drew out the wild part of her that was once the battling Aeon... and she found herself enjoying it. Nothing overt about her posture had changed; she was still relaxed, enjoying the conversation, friendly even. But even if it was only the intent look in her eyes, something had altered.

Not that she wished to fight. She would prefer time to find out how much over power she still possessed before she battled even in a friendly sparring match. Unlike Ifrit she had yet to explore how much of her Aeon self had truly survived the trip... that's what the itch was. She wanted to know precisely how much of her was still her. Perhaps when they were done talking and she'd divined if she was taking Revelin with her today or not she'd go find out.

"Years are not always evenly weighed with knowledge. If a fool outlives a genius, does it make them the wiser of the two? No. It simply means they were the more fortunate. Longevity does not guarantee you all the answers- even an eternity will not show you the world's exact function. And the mind is prone to forgetfulness, besides." If she was expecting a large reaction, she would be disappointed. Like her, Xaldin had seen and heard many things. He had touched and become one with the darkness, the great end-all, be-all. How did she expect to compare? There was little any more that impressed him... or so he believed. Whether he disagreed or agreed with the statement about risks would be unknown, though his tongue lapped thoughtfully over his bottom lip in one fell swoop.

There. His eyes narrowed a bit about halfway through her answer, though his maw remained shut out of polite restraint for her to finish. A soft snort proceeded it, and as he stared at her, there was something glinting behind those dark eyes. They were beautiful, truly, but they were not kind. Even before he had lost his heart, Dilan had not been the nicest person. "That's very selfish of you," He purred, the sound rumbling deep within his chest. "An impression of oneself. A companion- a lasting bond. You truly believe that? Hmm... Every child is ungrateful bag of flesh. They will take and take and take and never be content. And when they grow, they will leave you. They'll just as easily forget their bond if it serves better to their own desires. One does not need companions, or children. If anything, they are the stumbling blocks along the way to our own desires."

Xaldin was a bitter soul, and he was not the type to keep it to himself if others insisted on being around him. His words were poison, and though she seemed to think they were doing good for her... "Are you truly one to be content with catering to others? So easily tamed by loneliness that you domesticate yourself to gain acceptance?" His gaze was hard on her, judging, stormy.

She waited. Waited for him to finish speaking, waited for his final reaction. But by the end of that final condemning question even the very air seemed supercharged by the change that had just occured on the most fundamental level of Valefor's being. Her eyes flashed as something almost feral lodged itself behind her gaze.

"Who and what is a stumbling block is dependant on one's desires." There was something very soft in the background of her voice, an undertone of that part of her that spoke in the voice of the combination of an eagle's harsh cry and the tolling of a giant bell. "I gave up long ago on knowing everything. But that doesn't mean I've decided to stop trying either. And perhaps most minds might grow feeble with age. Trust me... I remember everything from my former life with clairity I wish I could forget."

Her mind was wild and disordered, and yet at the same time as orderly as it ever had been. She didn't realize her wings had partly unfurled like an agitated hawk. "And if that is what you think of family bonds then I pity the shortcomings of whatever family you've had." She stared back into his eyes, and not for a moment did the barest thought of flinching from the coldness there cross her mind. "And as for what I am content to do... it has very little to do with being tamed."

At least it had little to do with it after this encounter. Poison from a bitter soul it might be but in an odd way she felt exultant. She was not going to forget this part of her again, though it might fall to the back burner for a while in later days while she coped with separating from Aear. But Valefor was back... insofar as she could be in this world. And if this - and another rather irrelevant thought - bitter kitsu that was oddly attractive when he was angry didn't understand the almost viciously pleased gleam in her bright yellow eyes, she was just going to let him wonder.

"If your desires lie within surrounding yourself with children, it's disgusting. The petty goal of a fool. Look at yourself- the potential of greatness is there. But you are blinded," This last bit he nearly spat, shoving himself up suddenly. For someone so large, though, he moved smoothly, slowly moving before the female, muscle rippling powerfully beneath the dark cloth enclosing his shoulders and arms. There should be no question that the kitsu could pose as a formidable threat. However, this was not his purpose- merely to move to take in and observe her. "Power, beauty, charisma- you want to use it to nurture some drooling, snot-nosed brats? A shame..."

A low chuckle at the mentions at family, and Xaldin actually smiled. It was not pleasant. "Family? I've never had one, and am glad of it. There's nothing to hold me back- I can be myself, always. Can you honestly tell me that you can, too? In the midsts of children and peers that may never speak to you again if they truly knew you? You are a falcon, trapped within a golden cage." He saw her wings slightly parted, and he was pleased, though he wore an impressive mask of frustration. She was getting riled up, but if she tried to take it out on him, he knew he could hold her off long enough to escape. Were he in possession of his genzu, things would have been different. She thought she had him, and Xaldin would support it if only to use it to his advantage.

Now he drifted to her side, smooth and controlled though bristling with disgust. He might have been through with her then, perhaps heading off to Revelin, but he did turn his head ever so slightly, murmuring his poison to her ear like a lover might. "Why don't you set yourself free? Forget children, forsake love. They are the slings and the arrows that will drag you down and ultimately kill you. There is no greater release than rage- that is where power lies, and freedom. Do you feel it?"

Revelin had perked where he was, watching the new development between the adults. Quietly as he could, he began to sneak over their way, curious about the new conversation.

She did not deign to answer again to his comments about children. If she was blind, so was he. Two extremes of opinion on one subject usually meant than neither were truly correct. And it was useless for two blind fools to dance around in the dark thinking to gain some sort of advantage from it.

As for her peers?... she had friends, but only Ifrit could be said truly to be her peer, and he already knew. They both knew one another's darker sides, though Ifrit had accepted his when he first arrived while Valefor had not. Why had she tried to ignore it? She wasn't really sure now. But while she might accept it, she wasn't going to let it control her. She was more than her beastial side even if the sum total of her was still instinct guided by thought.

"Rage, Dark One?" It was almost a purr. "I was a slave to rage once before." It was rage more than anything else that had driven her to become a Fayth. And her rage had burned out after the first few pointless cycles of defeating Sin. "That would give me less freedom than I have already." Whatever he thought she was feeling, it was far from rage. A jumble of almost gleeful predatory instincts, yes. There was a great deal of something she could only label as animal attraction... What would he do if she started hunting him? At the moment it was quite tempting, but she had some self-exploration to do. This might be as much her heart fending away her pain as anything else.

He had her no more than she knew she had him. Or perhaps they both had eachother after a fashion? A tail brushed his chest and her voice dropped to that potentially dangerous almost purr again. "Your words are like sweet poison, Xaldin, but tempting as the fruit is at first glance, I don't bite that easily." Though truth be told she'd probably been bitten instead along with being reminded of who she really was. She also had a feeling he knew it.

She glanced over her shoulder toward Revelin. "Are you done eavesdropping yet?" she asked dryly. On the topic of children she was feeling apathetic right now, having more pressing concerns about herself. But she had offered to take the kit off Xaldin's hands for a few days, and she was not going to renig the offer. She turned to face Xaldin again. "Who is he leaving with?" She was going to find out if she had a passenger to take with her or not and go. She had many things to think about... and none of them were likely to be pleasant.

"Hmm. Rage isn't a prison. It is the purest, most honest feeling one can experience. The only reason it is restrained is because the world is afraid of itself. People see their true selves and it scares them. I wonder- how long will you continue to wallow in lies and disillusions of what is acceptably the way to be 'happy'?" His jaw lifted as the tail brushed his chest, staring sidelong at her through half-hooded eyes. "My words are the truth, though they may burn within you like a poison. You will realize it soon enough."

These words still murmured to her ear, pouring off smooth and strong. He seemed to truly believe what he had said, and that was perhaps the worst of all. Now that she had been bitten with those words, would she able to resist prodding or itching the wound later? If he could do this with mere words, just what would it be like in a fight? He was not prey- he was a predator in many ways. She would not receive much of a run out of him, for as he had spoken to her, and as she even chose to brush herself close, there was no fear in him. It would not be a chase, but a very brutal fight. Even a Nobody had things to be proud about, and depending on how it was presented, her gall just might impress him... or more likely piss him off.

"Hey hey...." Revelin whined a little, lowering his ears a bit. "I was just wonderin' what you two were talkin' about. You just seemed to be so close...." That green eye glistened with mischief and understanding. "Oooooooh~ Were you two--?"

Just like that, his presence was gone from her side, a brief snort sounding as the Lancer approached Revelin, who merely grinned to him. A large paw nudged the boy roughly in Valefor's direction. "You. Return him to that cottage there in a few days, or Revelin will tell you where to find me, should you become sick of him sooner." He seemed convinced that she would be. With not even a word or a lasting stare, he began to saunter on, preparing to climb the slope of the mountain to who knew where. He was finished with them.

"BYE UNCLE XALLY!" The kit tilted his head curiously after the larger male, before he turned his head back to Valefor. "So, when do we get to leeeeeave?" He implored, pawing at her foreleg curiously. Yes, all he was really concerned about now was his need to be entertained.

She settled as he walked away, remaining silent about her responses to his "parting words" until he was out of earshot. Even then all she did was smile to herself, knowing him for a poor bitter soul. "It might be your truth, Dark One... but you do not seem to understand that I have my own truth as well." It was barely more than a whisper, though Revelin likely heard.

She then turned down to Revelin and scooped him up with her wing much as she had fancied doing earlier, though she shifted so he could climb down the leading edge of it to her shoulders. "We can go now. I've nothing else to do here. Though I do have a few ground rules to set. Don't break any of the electronics. If you must break the dishware, make sure it's not the matching set. Also if you must break the dishware, make an effort do to so with the triplette's heads. Perhaps you and Bryna can finally put those three in their place." She waited for him to arrange himself before adding, "And good luck with annoying Ifrit. It's going to take a lot of effort, even for you. Now... hold on." After making fairly certain he was suitably attached to her person she got a running start and took to the air to head back to the Place.
