I used to be an incredibly aggressive person, when it came to Christianity. It was hard for me to realize that not all Christians are zealots.

I happen to be gay. However, this is not the topic of discussion, and I would kindly ask you all to not question my sexuality. I know myself to be who I am, and I know it to have not been a choice. If you truly are interested, and must speak to me, I'll gladly converse with you over Private Messages. However, please do not greet me with hostility, as I am not likely to respond.

Due to my sexuality, I've had many doors closed on my face. I've seen hatred, and I've felt it, as well. It seems to feed off of itself. Every time I would be the target of a zealot's hurtful words, or otherwise, my own hatred would grow.

Things got to the point where I would no longer associate with Christian people. I hated them. More importantly, I feared them.

I've been freed from my hatred. In my theatre group, there was a Mormon boy. My experiences had been at their absolute worst with that particular branch. I avoided him. I hated him.

As time went on, I stopped. He treated me like a human being. He saw past my sexual desires, and befriended me. Through this, I was able to understand that not all Christian people are the aggressive monsters that I've met in the past.

I am not a Christian person. This is my choice. However, I want those of you who ARE to know that it only takes a few kind words to show someone that you aren't what they might think you are.

A few kind words changed my life.

Please discuss any similar situations, or your feelings on the above. I'd love to hear it.

Just so that you are aware, Christianity is by no means about hate. Those whom you have experiences with are not Christian. The Bible talks about those who go around saying they are Christian, but do not do that which The Bible commands of us. Which is to love and be kind to all.

Also, just so you know, Mormon faith dictates that the nicer they are, the more likely and higher up they will be in heaven. Which is why they call you, and go to your home, and other such things as that.

Or it could be because they're your friend, and they like to be around you... Just an idea..

anyways..
Yeah, people in general can be hateful.
A lot of that sits on Christians because they believe against it... but we're only human after all and no one's perfect.

Personally, I don't care what your sexual preference is. That's none of my business, and I wont get mad unless it's thrown in my face (which is rude, no matter gay or straight).
People just need to worry about their own "faults" before they try to point out others.

I'm by no means saying that's the only reason he wanted to be friends with the guy. neutral I'm just stating a fact about Mormon faith.

Sort of. The main reason is to convert you and make you join them and become mormon. Anyways, that's something completely different!

People who follow a set of beliefs sometimes make sacrifices. They sacrifice love and friendship for being right. I just want to say that if any Christians do these kinds of things, that does not make Christianity itself something bad. And don't forget, never make assumptions or stereotypes: one "bad" Christian doesn't make all Christians bad.

I myself am a Christian, and I find that I was once intimidated by a lot of other Christians who were "holier than thou", and seemed closer to God than I was since I've gone through a lot in my life. However, not all Christians are judgmental, and more importantly, those who blindly hate are the ones who are struggling with themselves also.

I won't question your sexuality. Even though I am not gay, I know I have been hated and rejected by Christians at one time or another for things that I have done. I understand and I can relate to your experiences.

Know that you are loved and unique, and God loves you for you. He knew what he was doing when he created you. Don't believe Christians who falsely represent God's love and grace.

So it goes, so it goes in all religions and all places.

Muslims, christians, jews- they are all the same, they are all peaceful in nature. However, the few zealots tarnish the name of the whole thing.

funny you mention this because Christians get targeted BECAUSE of christian zealots.

ive been openly verbally attacked for no apparent reason by sudden conclusions and or thoughts when i mentioned the fact to them that i was christian. and THEIR response to ME was "oh so you hate gays right? you have a problem with gays?".

all i said was that i was christian, thats ALL I SAID and i was openly attacked for it. why? because of those freaking zealots who misrepresent what Jesus/God/Holy Spirit trully is. i try very hard to present god what way he presents himself in the bible, without adding in my own words or without CHANGING his teachings from what they originally were.

and thus i say

its hate the sin, not the sinner.

and although i dont know you personally, i want to appologize to you because of my other christian brethren that don't know any better. i can't stand being judged and they had no right to do or say whatever it was they chastised against you.

I know this isn't the mormon thread, so I'll leave it at that. But anywho, that's cool that you were able to get past the few Christians who are idiots and really discovered what we mean. Christ definitely didn't want us to hate each other...

People who follow a set of beliefs sometimes make sacrifices. They sacrifice love and friendship for being right.

People who sacrifice love and friendship for insubstantial 'right' are not far from turning those friends and lovers into a more literal sort of sacrifice. God help the rest of us if we ever find ourselves in a society where the state has codified the moral superiority of the righteous, and the degeneracy of the reprobate. Judging the morality of others is a stupid, pointless exercise; the world would be vastly better of if believers both religious and secular concerned themselves less with how clean their neighbors' soul and minds are and more with how well they've led their own lives.

I'm not sure what to say about this topic because your not every specific about the other "zealot Christians" have said or done to you. I would like to know why you believe hate was among these type of Christians. You did say that many doors were closed because of your sexual preference. Was it because you weren't willing to repent of your sexual preference? Reason why I ask these questions so that I know what to respond about.
