Obstacle Race
Only Kyn on this copy of the Registrar may participate. You will not be able to compete until your trade has been completely confirmed, even if the event has already started.
Registrar Kyn Name: Zephyr Kyn Rider: Rowan Azura -- Kyn Name: Racer Kyn Rider: Kesmi --- Kyn Name: Graylin Kyn Rider: Lady Karly --- Kyn Name: Isis Kyn Rider: Ganon Firenight --- Kyn Name: Taku Kyn Rider: poke mattix --- Kyn Name: Artemis Kyn Rider: Nicky Firenight --- Kyn Name: Blue-Eyed Beast Kyn Rider: Meadowlark --- Kyn Name: Haruko Kyn Rider: mewrose --- Kyn Name: Eclipse Kyn Rider: Rowan Azura Areas Being Judged The two areas that are being judged for this event are speed and roleplay ability. These are separate categories, and you do not have to win one to win the other. However, you can certainly win both speed and roleplay awards if you're that good. Please note that if you start before the event opens, or do not finish before it closes, then you will be disqualified. Judging will not occur until after the close of the event, when Waarufu has returned from vacation.
Speed Speed is not judged on the amount of time it takes one to complete all the obstacles, but rather the number of posts it takes. This allows a user time to create good role-play, and hopefully will not interfere with real-life circumstances. We understand also that not everyone has the same-speed of computer, and this will hopefully give all competitors sufficient time. The fewer rolls it takes you to get past an obstacle, the fewer posts you have to make. The person with the fewest and second fewest number of posts that completes the Obstacle Race will win first and third, respectively, picks of the Lunar eggs.
Roleplay It is encouraged to work roleplay into every aspect of the race. Whether you fail three times at a relatively simple obstacle, or pass each one without effort, using creativity to describe how you fail and how you pass will get you a better chance of winning the roleplay section of judging and second pick of the Lunar eggs. Chatspeak, excessive misspelled words, and excessive grammar mistakes will lower your score. We aren't looking for a mini-adventure as you face off against each obstacle, but one or two words isn't going to cut it if you're interested in this award. I highly encourage you to take advantage of the whole week that you have to compete, and to not rush through the event.
How to Race Each of the obstacles has a varying difficulty which is determined by a numerical range. An obstacle that is difficulty 8 is actually easier to overcome than one that is difficulty 5. This is because difficulty 8 means the obstacle has 8 different ways in which it can be overcome, while difficulty 5 has only five different ways. The competitor approaches an obstacle and uses Gaia to randomly generate a number from 1 to 10. If the number generated matches one of the numbers of the obstacle, the competitor successfully passes it. If it doesn't, then they must continue to roll until they can pass it.
The Rescue Kit Just in case you get caught in an area, and are desperate to get out it, every Lunar that enters the race is given a Rescue Kit. The Rescue Kit can only be used if you have failed to cross an obstacle after three rolls, and must be used before rolling the dice the next turn. The Rescue Kit does count towards your thread count, but it allows you to add or substract 1, 2, or 4 points from the dice roll you use it on to help you get around an obstacle. If you're lucky, you won't have to use the Rescue Kit and your Lunar will be able to keep the nifty little bag that it comes in!

Thread Set-Up Every Kyn entered in the race must have their own thread following these guidelines posted in the Official Guild Event RP subforum. Failure to follow these rules will cause your posts to not be counted. The main introductory post may be set-up before the race officially begins, but you cannot start the race until that date. Please also note that, even if you are riding someone else's Kyn, it is your responsibility to fill out this information yourself.
Be sure to make a note of whether or not your Kyn will be having a rider. Rider-carrying is optional. ^.^
Introductory Post Your post must be titled Lunar Obstacle Race: [-your Kyn's name-]
Lunar Obstacle Race: Zareb Lunar Obstacle Race: Zareb Kyn Name: Zareb Bonded Name: Waarufu Event Rider Name: Waffle-Monkey Event Introduction< -- describe the Kyn and rider's actions as they approach and wait for the start of the race. Do not start them racing, however. You can skip this section if you want to -- >

Obstacle List Please be sure to only move on to the next obstacle once you've passed the first one.
Any questions can be directed towards Ganon Firenight during the dates of the 17th through the 22nd, while Waarufu is out of town. All questions concerning the event should be posted in this thread. Do not post them in your race threads, the Lunar Festival thread, or PM them.
1. Pit Jump - Difficulty 8
The starting line places the Lunars in the forest on a path that weaves its way around a large canyon with a river running down the bottom fueled by a waterfall. The crude map below plots the course, and note that where the path turns from red to green, the kyn has moved from the top of the canyon to the bottom. They race one at a time and are clocked for speed. The first event is a simple pit jump. The Lunar must jump over a large pit blocking the path of the course. There are a few vines over it but with a good run it shouldn't be necessary to grab them. There is a safety net across the far half of the pit, but it can cost a lot of time climbing out of the net to continue the course.
To pass this obstacle you must roll one of the following numbers: 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10
2. Rope Bridge - Difficulty 7
Shortly after passing the pit the Lunar will reach the canyon, where most of the obstacles are. Spanning the canyon, in front of the waterfall, is a bridge made entirely of rope. The obstacle is treacherous for a creature without opposable thumbs, but not dangerous-- it would be hard to actually fall, but keeping one's paws on the ropes may prove difficult-- especially because they're wet.
To pass this obstacle you must roll one of the following numbers: 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10
3. River Cross - Difficulty 5
Another river runs parallel to the rope bridge on the far side of the canyon, running toward the lip. A safety net has been installed between two trees near the lip of the canyon in case someone slips, but the only hard part of this is fighting the strong current to swim across. It's fairly shallow, and the amount of time when a Lunar cannot plant at least one paw in the bottom will be short.
To pass this obstacle you must roll one of the following numbers: 1, 5, 6, 7, 9
4. Lantern Dig - Difficulty 3
After each run, a judge will bury an object small enough for a Lunar to carry in his or her mouth with ease, about the size of a tennis ball, in the area between the river and the ledge for the fifth obstacle. The Lunar must find and dig up the object (after crossing the river there will be a small wedge of the substance so the Lunar can get the object's scent) to continue. The object will be necessary later-- if the Lunar drops it at any point, he or she will have to get it back before he or she continues. The object gives off a green glow that will illuminate a dark place.
To pass this obstacle you must roll one of the following numbers: 3, 8, 5
5. Stone Hop - Difficulty 6
Once the Lunar finds the glowing object, he or she must run to the lip of the canyon where a ledge juts out over it. South of the ledge, in the direction the water flows, there are four enormous rock pillars. A net has been stretched across the canyon and around the pillars, but the only way back up if you fall in the net is to climb back onto the ledge at the beginning of the obstacle. The object is to jump from one pillar to the next across the top of them, and then leap from the fourth pillar to the opposite lip of the canyon. There, a path leads down to the bottom of the canyon, just above the river itself, where the canyon opens up and the river widens and slows down.
To pass this obstacle you must roll one of the following numbers: 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10
6. Pillar Weave - Difficulty 2
Two ledges run along the bottom of the canyon, one on each side. For this obstacle, the Lunar has to jump from one ledge to the other between the pillars without falling into the river, which will carry him or her back to the area where the river widens. Back there, swimming to shore and trying again is no trouble, but it does waste valuable time. The jumps should land the Lunar on the left side of the canyon, facing a cave that goes right into the rock. The object from obstacle 4 will be useful here.
To pass this obstacle you must roll one of the following numbers: 3, 8
7. Tunnel Crawl - Difficulty 7
This is a simple but somewhat grody obstacle. Using the glowing object, the Lunar must find the top of a small tunnel and dig their way into it. The tunnel is tight and small-- the Lunar will have to belly crawl. There are some places where if one is not careful, one can get stuck and lose time getting unstuck.
To pass this obstacle you must roll one of the following numbers: 1, 3, 4, 5, 7, 9, 10
8. Climb the Pit! - Difficulty 4
The path comes out at the bottom of the pit the Lunar jumped in the first event. All around the sheer rock walls of the pit there are ledges jutting out. Using the light from the glowing object, the Lunar must climb the pit using these ledges. The ground at the bottom is spongy and soft, which means a fall won't hurt much. Once out of the pit, the Lunar must only cross the finish line again to complete the course!
To pass the obstacle you must roll one of the following numbers: 1, 2, 9, 10
Map of the Course Note: When the path changes from red to green, the Lunar has gone from the top of the canyon to the bottom. I know the map is crude. Ganon did it. He's not artsy. positively amazing for making it so this event can open on time.

Alright, role-play wise, how does the rescue kit work?
And also, do we have to use it? *forgot to use at the rope bridge*
Also, if we missed a roll on a post by accident, are they counted? (I've missed two so far >.<)

You can ONLY use the Rescue Kit once, Cherry, and only if you're in a bad situation. You can use it to add or subtract 1, 2, or 4 from your last roll to get a passing number (like how I used it to climb out of the pit). If you use it, you don't get the handy little item inside. The kit will do something that will help you get past the obstacle-- up to you based on the situation. You're only allowed to use it if you haven't passed the obstacle after three tries.

Nope. It's based on number of rolls, not number of posts.
Also, using the Rescue Kit counts as a roll.

Er, with the stone jump, do we have to post about each pillar? Or can it just be one large post?

You play the obstacle as a whole. All of the jumps together count as one obstacle, all of the weaves between the pillars count as one obstacle. One correct roll will get you to the next obstacle down the list (so rolling a 5 on the Stone Hop will get you across all four pillars).
