I feel that people will always have some idea of religion even if they don't believe they have any. Most people choose to follow a religion because they were raised that way. Also it gives people hope and comfort that there is perhaps a God watching them. There is also different levels of faith some people believe in God and leave it like that while others may go to church, temple, etc. every Sunday, Friday... whatever day is their holy day.
I do not feel Harry Potter should be banned. I am a strongly religious Christian, but I don't feel Harry Potter is the devil and it is just fiction. I enjoy the story because it takes me out of my zone, but not a comfort zone. I don't believe in the Harry Potter stuff at all, but it would be awesome if it wer true... sorta... okay well maybe not. ^^;
I love having religion and I believe other people do because it is something to go for. Many people are "saved" by religion. We will never now the real truth... maybe unless there is an afterlife and God. (Jeez I hope so). I think there would be a lot more problems in the world if people did not have religion. Although religion does cause fights and debates and even those who are not religious are interested in the philosophy of religious people and vice versa, but not always in a posotive way.
Children are not really forced to believe in their parents religion so I don't really have a huge problem with parents forcing their children to practice it although even with the forcing it doesn't mean that they will actually believe in it. It is our born freedom to at least have our own thoughts. ( I believe God gave us that, but I won't get into that because people may kill me.)
People may give their sytem of beliefs a title because then others who share the religion can be sort of joined together in their faith. I don't mind it. I'm a Christian, Protestant, Lutheran. I don't feel that we really need names, but I suppose it helps us stupid humans get through life.
I am not sure really why people start religions I did see an interesting program that says that it is possible that things we discovered or went throught when we were early humans have to do with it. A cavemans mother and sister were struck by lightening and when he started crying on his sister lightening hit and animal and the animal died and at that exact moment his sister came to life so it caused him to believe in something. You couldn't really tell cause he was speaking in Caveman talk. I think overall it is started by believers and then taken on by other believers and people who just want a purpose or both.
Also to the person who said there is a God and believing in the big bang is stupid. I believe in God and the big bang. I also believe in evolution. I believe God caused everything to happen. I won't however force my opinions on other people. I would like to, but I won't. ^^; It's against my religion anyway. ^_-

Why do people follow a particular religion? Do they accomplish their goals? Is it appriopiate for them to try and make discions such as Harry Potter is the devil and should be banned? Do they have a good or bad effect on society? Should children be forced to follow their parents religion? Should people be perscuted for enforcing their religion on other people? How believable are they? Why did people start religions? Why do people give their "system of beliefs" a title? Do they make a person feel more secure? Do they promote free thinking or do they just surpress people? Is the system they use to evalueate scripture working or should it be changed?
1.They are either born into it or converted into it. 2. Depends on the person, we are all different. 3. In the end its only personal, personally its just a book, not to be taken seriously. If there are other things that people don't feel comfortable about just shield yourself from it don't make a big deal. Like have a family rule. 4. Its really an opinion, I think they have a good affect. They keep people from killing, stealing, ect. (even though some people don't follow it) 5. I will give my children the choice. They can choose if my religion is right or if I am a maniac. 6. No they shouldn't unless it offends someone else. If they continue then yes they need to be stopped if they have already been asked to stop. 7. I have recieve an answer that my religion is right, through the power of the Holy Ghost. I wasn't born into it, It is an amazing feeling that words can not descibe. Its like describing the color green to a blind man. 8. Mine was started by a 14 year old boy and became the fastest growing religion in todays world. Pm me for more details. Yes I am a Latter-Day Saint. 9. To be identified in this confusing world that we live in. There are a lot of people in the world. 10. Well you just have this amazing feeling that you know your doing okay, your a good person, and heck if you died you lived a good life. 11. Free thinking with guide lines. It can't be totally outrageous 12. Its great the way it is.

Why do people follow a particular religion? There is probably more than one answer for that. But many times, it's simply what you beleive. There are some religions that force...but than your not really part of that religion. You have to beleive it to actually be part of it, whether you're forced or not.
Do they accomplish their goals? No clue. I don't even understand what you mean by goals...
Is it appriopiate for them to try and make discions such as Harry Potter is the devil and should be banned? Some households may ban the book because it has bad effects on their religion. But most religions know that it's just made up story, just sometimes the kids go to far with it.
Do they have a good or bad effect on society? Overall, I find it's a good effect in some religions, a bad effect in others. For example, christians don't care if you beleive in god, but they want people to care for others. They normally avoid sins, and a few are even illegal. But there's another religion that wants all black people to die, or atleast brcome slaves again. That tends to have a negetive efect on society. But the golden rule in many religions is do unto others as would have them do unto you.
Should children be forced to follow their parents religion? No. I wasn't forced. If I was budist than my parent wouldn't care. But sadly, some religions do force there children into their religion. And if there children change religions or something, they could be killed.
Should people be perscuted for enforcing their religion on other people? It depends on what they do. If they kill people to do it, like the taliban is doing, than yes.
How believable are they? That's a hard question. Somebody who atheist may say they not beleivable at all. Christians may say that other religions are ridiculous and so on.
Why did people start religions? Christianity was apparently started when Jesus began having followers who beleived he was the son of god...but it was before than that people knew about god. We'll never truly now until we can go back in time.
Why do people give their "system of beliefs" a title? Christianity I guess that's an example...but I'm not quite sure what the question is asking. Do they make a person feel more secure? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Do they promote free thinking or do they just surpress people? Some religons force you to surpress some things. But most religions don't do that. They allow free thinking.
Is the system they use to evalueate scripture working or should it be changed? ...huh?
And most importantly: Does society need them? How is this most important? Are you going to say if society doesn't need them, then why the heck are they here? It's probably the least important question. Now that my opinion on that is out, I shall answer the question... We will never know. The world could've been killed by now or it could've been better. You can live without religion, and there would probably be less fights, but sadly there are people out there who hate people different than them, so even if religion didn't exist, there would still be fights. I'm sure Hitler would've found something else to start a war with.
