Appearance
Keno stands at a short 5'5" with an eternal body of eighteen whose build is average, but muscular. His long black hair that once draped over his shoulders as low as his mid back has been replaced by snowy white/pitch black salt-and-pepper hair that has been cut short and spikes out every which way from his scalp. His eerie feline eyes have lightened from the shine of illuminated blood to a deep sunset trapped within the spheres of his pupils. His stripes are still around, assuming the forms of scars across his back, arms, legs, neck, and face. His fashioned has long since been changed as well. He now walks about with a straw hat to shade and cover his upper face, the rim sometimes dipping over his eyes. A metal plated headband is often present, slanting from the left eye up to his forehead and tying in the back. The nose down is concealed by a red cloth scarf that flows around his body as though caught in its own air current. His hands are still usually adorned with battle gloves and his upper body has but a sleeveless tank top for protection. Wide legged pants flow down from his waist to compliment the scarf.
History
Keno was born in an unknown place. He assumes he had good parents, for they died shortly after his sister's birth when he was only 19 months old. A green man found them and took them to a village hidden in a forested mountain where the people nursed the children communally. Of particular interest is the fact that though the village is in northern Canada, it has unique climate that more closely resembles Japan. The people of the village are sun bathed a beautiful tan color, usually with dark, soft hair and deep, lustrous brown eyes. They aren't foreign to labor, thus the men usually have rather average muscular builds, the women mostly fair waisted. They live in solitude of the outside world, almost as though by magic, but there are no forces at work that bar anyone from coming upon them.
As an infant, Keno boasted great potential for manipulating and utilizing ki. The green man, who had continued watching them, took Keno and his sister, Thorn, everyday for disciplinary and physical training. For two years, the children endured grueling work under weight training, meditation, endurance running and swimming, and survival training at the years' end. They also began to learn telepathy. Keno's power grew at an accelerated rate. At seven, it was time Keno learned the village martial arts. Now he and Thorn spent their days learning the green man's discipline and he spent his evenings practicing the village arts. Thanks to the green man Keno already had great power, speed, agility, endurance, and stamina. He learned the arts quickly and even taught some to his little sister with the Head Guardian's consent. Five years later he began weapons training, learning the use of the tanto, wakizashi, and katana, and was appointed the Head Guardian's apprentice.
After he became an apprentice, the sibling's home was constructed and they were recognized as village citizens. By now they had learned basic ki techniques: flight, ki blast, ki ball, ki wave, and ki shield. They were left to their own devices to develop their own unique abilities. Keno developed the Tiger Wave technique, though it had no name then, among other abilities in the alpha stages. Thorn however was working on a much more complex technique. Nothing else worth much mention occurred between the years Keno was twelve to seventeen.
At seventeen, a military envoy came upon the village and demanded one able bodied male go with them. Keno went with them for the sake of the village, being an orphan and trusting Thorn to be fine on her own; all the other men had families and all the other boys had parents. He left Thorn his apprenticeship and disappeared. For a year he was subject to a series of experiments with the sole purpose of genetically fusing human and animal DNA. He was paired up with a black tiger, a creature of untold legend. The series of experiments came to a screeching halt when the tiger died, and there were no signs of success.
Keno was returned to the village, seemingly perfect health, after that year. Save his new scars, most of which were found by the purity bathers, he looked almost the same. For three months things seemed to be normal, but then there came random outbursts of power that he could not control nor explain. He went to the green man for further, stricter discipline and found he had indeed fused with the black tiger as the host body.
Six months later, the envoy returned. Keno, Thorn, the Head Guardian, and some of the elders approached them in preparation while all else were sent to their homes. There was another demand for a subject. The elder kindly refused and requested the army to leave. This request was met with refusal as well and their demands became fiercer. Keno's hostility was written all over his face as he spoke out on behalf of the elders and himself. Believing things were going to get worse, Thorn directed the elders to seek immediate shelter and request the remaining guardians to assist the three warriors.
The battle that ensued was a result of harsh, incoherent words exchanging between both parties and quick, irrational military thinking. Thanks to the short reach between the village guardians and the military force, there were few casualties - at first. The guardians were able to strike quickly and efficiently, leaving little time for the gunmen to aim or fire. Nonetheless the Head Guardian, Keno's master, was the first to fall, saving him from a stray bullet. The battle continued with little time to recognize or mourn the loss. While fighting off a five man group on his own, Keno lost Thorn. Seven men circled her, but she wasn't as gifted with as much power as Keno. Try as she might she was unable to keep them from firing for long and before either of them knew it, her body was being filled with lead as she fell in cold blood. As Keno watched, the world slowed down to the point where he saw the bullets leaving the gun barrels. As he bore witness to this, his body began to undergo a change as he felt himself fill with unimaginable rage and unequaled grief.
The result of KenoTao's internal instability at that moment caused him to transform for the first time. Though he is a mere human of five feet and five inches, he grew to be a full six feet standing. The anatomy of his body underwent a distinctly visible change as his feet formed into the pawed, furry, hindlimbs of a feline and a tail emerged from his back side. His pain worsened the transformation as warriors on both sides of the schism paused in fear at what they perceived was a very painful, very unholy series of events. Black fur began to spread about the entirety of his body, each of his new scars layered by soft, snow white hair. The raven hair that once wamred his head and shoulders shortened and spiked, reaching no further than an inch and a half below his neck and not exceeding more than five inches in any given direction. Harsh red feline eyes gazed hazily at the army as a new, more powerful being stood in their wake.
The fate that awaited the military was a harsh, unforgiving, cold blood bath of a killing spree. The creature struck wildly, powerfully, without mercy and without reserve, all the while able to be precise in its killings, sparing each and every guardian too afraid to flee the scene. Corpses fell left and right, if the pieces of them that remained could indeed be referred to as corpses, until all that was left was an impure soul full of grief and a lot of blood staining the ground. Having no where else to go, the creature fled the village, once more in search of the green man. By the time the two reunited, Keno was exhausted and collapsed, becoming human again.
For the rest of that year he trained under the green man's discipline, regaining control of his powers and sharpening his skills. It took all of his focus every day and every ounce of will to mold his power as his own. Later he returned to the village and a home that had been left untouched in his absence. He was not feared as a monster by his people, but hailed as a hero. His pain was felt throughout the village and in their own way, they joined him in his mourning. Each day a different woman tended to his house and prepared his meals and a young boy would usually tend to his yard. They did not feel burdened by this, but grateful for his sacrifice and honored to help in any way they could.
A mere three months later, the elders also came to him with three final gifts of gratitude. The first was a custom blade set sheathed in black coated oak. Every element of the blades' design was constructed to make them a part of his body, however now these are mainly decoration over his mantle. The second gift was a set of scrolls which possessed ancient skills of a Wind Elementalist. The scrolls themselves had been forbidden until then; the first and only other person to use the scrolls being the creator. The ancestors thought he was a god's child. Three generations attempted to succeed him, but lack of discipline led to their demise. Keno was given this gift under the premise that he might have the necessary discipline to actually learn and harness the powers of the wind without destroying himself. The contents of the scrolls to this day remain unknown, but KenoTao himself doesn't seem to be any more or less 'enlightened' by their wisdom. The third gift was a map to find the Mineral, a unique and rare weapon throughout history. He took a six month leave of the village to seek this weapon out and learn the teachings of the scroll in solitude. After returning to the village, he took the role of Sole Guardian of the village and continued his training of the village arts, all the while forming his own style. One year prior to completing the training of the village arts, he destroyed the scrolls, having no need for them and desiring no one to get their hands on them.
He came to be 23 before he decided to go out into the world. As sole guardian however, this wasn't the simplest of things to do. In order to both he had a summoning spell cast upon himself so he would never be too far to protect his village. He became a mercenary for some time aiming to destroy his government. He also remained under the green man's wing for another two years, to master his own ki techniques. The green man disappeared after, vanished without a trace. Keno has had no reason to search for him.
Being on his own Keno met a few interesting personalities in his travels, the first being Carl Elynwood, his oldest friend. Both were independent by nature, yet frequented one another in their travels. Carl has always proven to be one the greatest warriors for training with, having a vast array of abilities and a mysterious evolutionary trait that has come to bestow him with a near exhaustible amount of ki.
Next came a demon by the name of Samayou Tamashii, or Tama for short. Also a man who achieved rapid evolution in the short time Keno has known him. Tamashii was more of a loner than Carl and only frequented Keno in random intervals here and there as he went to explore the world on his own. Keno picked up a few things from Tama, but little that could be recognized.
Among these three, Keno one way or another met his eternal rival. The saiya-jin User hadn't been on Earth too long before he and Keno crossed paths. Perhaps being a bit too smug at the time, Keno decided to put the over confident monkey in his place. The battle wasn't too phenomenal, but Keno did come out on top, fating him to be on User's blacklist, until the day he dies of course.
So Keno happened upon the Orion knowing only a handful of people, others being that then on, now on again, couple of Jade Saewin and Tybron Wesley, who prefers to be called Deity. His early days in Orion were the best indeed. Frequent matches against User, deepening bonds with Jade, and natural hustle and bustle of the many other characters and their personal rivals, such as the Saewin siblings or Wesley brothers, entertained or otherwise occupied him. He's now a veteran of the club and has seen many come and go, including Carl and Tamashii.
In the early days, in order to compete, Keno often relied on his ability to transform to match the stronger opponents he would fight against. Sadly enough nothing all that phenomenal ever happened to him. However, this did give him plenty of time to train without being rendered physically inept for long periods of time, gaining him the ability to rise in power and become more independent on his base power. Otherwise little needs to be said about him. The rest of his history can pretty much be recorded in the annals of Orion so nothing more needs be written...
...Or at least that was the case until Keno mysteriously left the Orion for several months. There had been much on his mind for some time before he just vanished, but few, if any, noticed. Before his hair became what it is now, it began a slow process of whitening in some areas. His long raven black locks were now invaded with white hairs that looked way too much like Tygre's. He decided he would handle the matter as soon as possible, but as things were, he was involved in the second Club Orion tournament and did not want to withdraw simply because he had several intentions for later matches should he advance.
Before the final verdict could be made on his first match, he withdrew, advancing his opponent by default to the second round. He left a note on the bar saying his farewells and such. He then went off to a new realm that Carl just so happened to conveniently offer to him as a gift a few weeks or so prior. He has since named the world Tera. Not a lot can be said about Tera as it is now, but it gave him the necessary solitude he needed to handle the Tygre situation appropriately.
After a month's meditation, KenoTao and Tygre stood ready for their final match against one another. They fought for a month non-stop, but it was obvious from the outside looking in that his heart was not into this fight at all. He didn't seem to try very hard at all most times, and when he did, it was only out of bursts of anger that quickly died down. For that reason he wasn't able to perform at his best. When he finally began contending, it became obvious to Tygre that Keno was selfishly mourning his own losses. Before he could put Keno in his place, in this case deep into the ground, the two were visited by an pair of unexpected visitors.
Thorn, Keno's long dead sister, and his master, always referred to as the Green Man, had come from the world of the dead especially to talk some sense into him before Tygre's passing. His history of severe and destructive bursts of rage was too much for the world to keep tolerating. At the last moment, the two had made a deal with King Enma to have their mortal bodies restored long enough to calm the mind of the lonely warrior and bring him to his senses. For too long he took his pain out on the world whenever someone he cared for passed away, and he never exactly mourned properly for them so the pain always lingered with him, making the next loss even more destructive.
Fortunately they were able to convince him to accept loss as a natural turn of events and left him to himself, probably with many more questions unanswered than he would be satisfied with. Shortly afterward he returned home to his mother, his hair and eyes changed, his face weathered with experience. She recognized him immediately of course, that's what mothers do, even if they aren't biological. She talked to him for quite some time, he mostly listened of course. When all was said and done he resolved that losses could, and in his case were, often compensated with equal gains. He asked his mother to cut his hair, which for the past 32 years had only ever been trimmed to keep it healthy.
Spending a bit more time alone he finally came upon the last leg of his journey alone. He returned to the house he and Thorn had lived in together for no more than a couple of years before she died. He pulled a mirror out of a chest in his closet, stared at it, and came face to face with his own inner demon; Grief. After laying down the law and assuming control over the emotion that had long since manifested itself into a personality trait that was always working in the background of his mind, he was finally able to overcome himself, no longer a slave to his emotions and no longer afraid of them.
He now keeps mostly to himself. He recognizes his own strength, but most notably the strength of his peers. He doesn't feel neglected, but unneeded and therefore free to do as he pleases. Unfortunately, that involved causing a bit of chaos in January when he decided to put a mushroom cloud and a huge crater into the middle of a city. What reasons he has since then offered can only be judged by those who know him best. Whether he's lying or not, he has kept his word and is civil for the time being, though he does not guarantee his docility to anyone.
The events of the beginning of that year, however, were not without consequence. His chaotic exploits drew the attention of the old lab unit that was responsible for his creation. Since their so called failure, they have developed seven successful subjects that have generated vast amounts of power. Now that Keno poses not only a national threat, but also threatens to expose the work which is otherwise unknown to the general public, the seven man cell, known as Unit 97 has been dispatched to eliminate Keno before he can cause any more harm to society or the secrecy of the lab.
Move List
Absolute Zero - exactly what it sounds like. So trained is Keno's ki that he has reduced his base output to zero. By these means alone he is now completely undetectable.
Aeromancy - Keno is capable of doing any number of things with the wind. He is a master of it, a partner, and a servant. His syncronization allows him to manipulate wind speeds and air pressure in various ways to perform feats such as flight, mock telekinesis, and then some. The only limit is the potential of air itself and his own imagination, as cliche as that sounds. Combined with his ki, he is able to sometimes produce dangerous effects.
After Image - a favorite of Keno's. He's not superfast, but when he creates an after image, his speed multiplies for a moment; just long enough to relocate while leaving a vapor trail of himself behind.
Animal Senses - Since his metamorphosis, his ability to smell has increased significantly along with his sense of touch. Thanks to other abilities, his hearing hasn't developed in the least.
Basics - the basics in ki manipulation; ball, barrier, beam, blast, flight, sensory, suppression and wave.
Conjure - Keno can conjure small items in his hands at any given time. Small items range from everyday items such as towels and dishes to weaponry or armor. Anything that one general uses with his own two hands in other words. On that same note, with a simple waving of his hand or hands, he can also transfer items from one place to another so long as he been to both locations before.
Disperse - KenoTao can alter his molecular structure to become like air. He incidentally has a mist "shadow" if he stays like this too long. Due to recent training this shadow no longer accompanies him. After about a complete two minutes like this, his ki is completely gone.
Disperse Halo - By forming his energy in rings, Keno is able to form red/black energy halos that are able to Disperse any physical matter fired into them. From here, any technique can be reverted to its original form and fired back at their originators, or merely be rid of. When more than one halo is out at a time, the attacks that have been Dispersed can be fired out of any of the open halos.
Drift - while Dispersed, Keno is able to travel along in the form of wind, from a gentle breeze to a fierce gust.
Fusion - the ability to fuse with another fighter. The two warriors have to have equal ki amounts at the time of the fusion and for thirty minutes possess a significant increase of ki and physical abilities. The duration of the fusion may decrease if too much energy is used before the time limit.
Kage Bushin no Jutsu - a ninjutsu rather than the genjutsu that is the Bushin no Jutsu. The clones produced by this technique can use taijutsu and some chakra molding techniques, but not much else.
Kagetama - Formerly known as the Shadow Ball, this is KenoTao's most powerful ki ball. He collects wild energy into a central point anywhere on his body. Once the desired amount is collected, he transfers it to one of his arms and condenses it into as much of a ball as he can. The wild energy is unstable and does a max of five times the damage of a controlled attack of equal power. Is very hard to control once released so is often used on stationary targets. This wild power Keno collects is basically a concept of infusing malice with his ki and allowing the negativity to corrupt the ki's flow which is why, in most all cases, he does not try to control it's course of travel after firing it.
Masedo - Keno's most powerful wave, this attack has two forms. The deep violet form is the more maneuverable technique. It is used to immobilize opponents that refuse to sit still. The black-red form is quicker and five times more powerful. It cannot be fired outside of a straight line and is therefore usually a finisher. The energy is gathered by placing the hands around the torso, left palm face down, right palm face up.
Meditation - in a state of meditation, Keno can increase the potential of his ki as well as gain better control over his abilities, making them much more effective in battle and less wearing on him. What's more is he is able to sharpen his fighting skills by reviewing battles in accelerated real time.
Replication- whenever KenoTao is struck by lightning, he duplicates. His two forms do not get weaker in this process. The lightning can be created or natural. Thanks to his ninja training, he is able to replicate at will and without the loss of ki. This is due to the ability he learned, allowing him to convert chakra into rai, which surges through him at all times. Whenever he needs to replicate, his body simply submits to its natural reaction to the Rai and presto.
Shunkido - instantaneous movement. Keno picked up this little trick from The Fierce Deity. With a spike of ki and careful concentration, the user is able to shift into a state of instantaneous movement. Similar to Shunkan Idou except the user has complete control of his body.
Shunkido Trace - a variation of Shunkido by Keno. An eye technique, this move trains the eye to catch an opponent at any speed, including instantaneous movements. This technique however does not permit the user to shift automatically, simply keep up with the movements of his opponent. Therefore the significance of the move isn't to defend or counter, but instead to follow through after the opponent's attack.
Spirit Trace - a lock on technique. The orbs multiply and magnify in intervals of 3, 4, or 5 (at the end of my post). No ki is used to empower them after they initially launch. They phase through KenoTao if they make contact with him. With a thin silver ki veil, they are able to rebound off of any inanimate object that comes between them and their target. The longer they remain in battle, the smarter they become. After some time, the technique has been modified to make them more efficient in battle. Though they still become smarter over time, they start out with a certain sense of "awareness." Using one's own ki as a counter will prove in vain as the veil that protects the attack will now repel or rebound off of anything not considered a living organism. Add this to its original intent, the victim is now both distinguishable as a ki source and intended target by the orbs alone.
Taoist Dragon/Tiger - KenoTao summons free energy and implants it into the ground. The free energy forms a crest five feet below the surface. It cannot be detected because it is about as strong as a rock. Once completed, which takes a lot of time so KenoTao generally engages in battle until it's ready, KenoTao tries to get the enemy somewhere inside the bounds of the crest. Once this is done, the free energy rises to the surface and begins to feed off of the opponent's energy. A barrier lifts over the victim so escape is impossible. Any ki used to shatter the barrier is merely absorbed. After some time, the free energy begins to mimic the ki signature of its victim. At this point KenoTao fires either the Masedo (Dragon) or the Shadow Ball (Tiger) the force of the explosion usually kills, but a strong enough enemy will escape extremely weakened. The energy from KenoTao's wave or ball makes its way into the opponent's ki through the free energy, draining him from the inside.
Telepathy - Keno can communicate telepathically. As his intimate bonds with another grows, his mental abilities increase, allowing him to willingly read their thoughts, limiting himself basically on the honor system. This level of intimacy takes different forms of growth, such as his rivalry with User or his brotherly affection towards Jade. Recently however, he has picked up the annoying ability to hear everyone's thoughts at one time. Sporadic at first, he has gained a bit of control over it, but unfortunately the off switch is broken so he has resorted to basically ignoring it as best he can.
Tiger Strike - a translucent veil of ki covers Keno's body from the neck down. His speed, strength, and endurance increase with the use of the ki. If he puts enough ki into this technique, all impacts will discharge ki at his opponent or whatever he makes contact with.
Tiger Wave - a ki wave with no distinctive preparation technique. It is equal in power to the Kamehameha and can be fire single handedly just as effectively as dual fisted.
Transformations
Black Tiger - Simply called BT by Keno, this transformation can be made in either form. The man transforms into a tiger-human hybrid creature which stands at a solid 6 feet tall. With deep golden eyes, the difference between this tiger and others is that it has black fur with white stripes. All the scars are lined with white fur whereas the rest of the body is covered in black fur. What's more is the creature's tail emerges, though not of much significant value. Holding a power 10 times that of Keno's own abilities, BT brings a significant amount to the table.
Weapons
Mineral Weapon - the Mineral is a weapon Keno came across in his travels during his youth. It is initially worthless, but over time it becomes very valuable to it's user. Upon obtaining a Mineral, the weapon will feed directly off of the minerals within it's wielder's blood, which drains one of a huge amount of energy and can leave him weakened if he does not keep up his strength.
Density - the Mineral has two types of density: overall and current. The Mineral's current density is all up to the bearer. S/he is able to bear the mineral as any weapon, but it can be much denser than any normal weapon of the same type. Though the density does indeed contribute to the weapon's weight, it always feels relatively weightless to the user. Overall density is a matter of how long and how much the Mineral feeds off of its host. Heavy eaters will have denser weapons a lot sooner than moderate or light eaters. ((once I remember all the components needed to calculate density, I'll post that here))
Morphing - as said above, the Mineral can be formed into any weapon the bearer chooses except for firearms and explosives. It can also be used as a body shell for defensive purposes. Depending on the Mineral's current overall density, it can be used for several weapons, one really powerful weapon, or more protective armor.
Healing - the Mineral's healing ability is more of a repair procedure. Should the user suffer a wound, as small as a paper cut or as serious as internal bleeding, the Mineral can be used to repair the body so that it can function properly. That being said, it cannot recover ki or stamina, only the body's physical condition.
Secondary Appendage - the Mineral does not always have to be wielded as an external weapon. It can extend from the pores of the body to take most any shape to be used for offense or defense as well. Keno's usual use of this ability is to have the Mineral spike out of his body.
Keno??
Keno is an eerie creature, even in supernatural terms. He seems to evolve as he attains more power. There have been noted and marked psychological issues that have manifested themselves in several ways. The most noted manifestation is that of Tygre, who was once considered to be the soul of the black tiger coexisting in Keno's body. The most dangerous is a shadow that has assumed the physical shape, not appearance, of he himself. As he grows, he attains more strength, sometimes a step at a time, sometimes in bounds. When he transforms, a second nature is expressed to replace his normal consciousness, but even here there seems to be a fusion or harmony as it becomes steadily more difficult to tell whether Keno or Tygre is pulling the strings of the body they live in.
As far as his nature, it's up for debate as well. Keno is much like a die. He appears to have many sides, being a clown, an enforcer, a defender, a child, an adult, a brother, a lover and all the while jumping from happy, to sad, to angry, to anything in-between and non-inclusive. Sometimes it is clear why he behaves the way he does, others it is rather hard to tell. Sometimes it's will, sometimes it's necessity, other times still it's inconclusive. He is known ultimately to be one of the "good guys" but has no more reserve against slaughtering a nation than his rival User does. In fact, on the right day one might see him take out a small village or two. He doesn't justify or denounce these rare actions, he just does them and moves on, feeling as though the world every once in a while owes him a great loss.
He never sought to come to terms with his sister's death. He let's himself feel sad or depressed from time to time simply because little else makes him feel that way. Even when Satomi was nearly beaten to death, he only felt rage, not sadness. This sadness is unique to him and the only sadness he has ever known. When Raleigh passed away, he did feel a loss, but not even she was as close to him as his memories of Thorn. In her honor, he tried to master the Rose Combo, but has so far failed. Whether he will succeed is still up for debate.
Ultimately he lives to become stronger. His life is seemingly an ageless one, though not resistant to murder. Thus he has vowed to die at no one's hand ever. He seeks training where he can find it, keeping his parameters for battle open. His list of techniques grows at an awkward rate, now to the point that his failure in battle is a result of either being the weaker opponent or his inability to remember the best move he could make in a situation. Though he hasn't added too many new moves to his arsenal as of late, he is always altering whatever he can to make it more effective in battle.
When it comes down to it, Keno as a person is always gonna be one form of an enigma. His life is not the easiest book to read, and even if his actions can be predicted, he can always jump on one path or other to keep allies and foes alike on their toes. Watching him is entertaining for anyone into that kinda thing. Fighting him is no doubt annoying. But nonetheless, figuring him out makes even the narrator wanna cringe just a little bit.
