Journal | Reihai ____________________ //
We found a baby in a tree.
It was horrifying. No one ever wants to see that tiny form dangling unloved and abandoned from unforgiving branches; in my nightmares, it's Tirasei. The poor little thing has no parents, no one reporting him missing or stepping forward to claim him...so he's staying with us. I've named him Satsuma. At least now he and Tir will have each other...Fai isn't too enthusiastic, of course, but I think he'll get over it. If he doesn't we can have another fight, and I'll win because he's not THAT selfish deep down. As long as I'm paying attention to him, too. XD...
Satsu (as we call him) is more vocal than Tir, and somewhat more self-centered. He cares about Tir and doesn't like to see him unhappy, in fact he will go to extremes to make him feel better when he is upset...but otherwise he is demanding and not at all pleased when he doesn't get his way. I am finding that he can be distracted with flattery, attention, and shinies. Fai (of course) doesn't seem to notice how much Satsu resembles him!
My time has gotten a little bit more crowded. I don't mind, though. There's a peace that comes from curling up with Fai and the babies, listening to them sleep or watching them curiously converse in their odd baby-talk. I didn't expect to have children of 'my own.' I'm very surprised at myself, but happy all the same.

Solo RP - Eider Down Rehai and Satsuma
"Ho, ho, hotaru koi, atchi no mi zu wa nigai zo..."
Aside from the low sound of Reihai's voice, the office was very quiet. During the day, the Broken Lotus was a serene place; there was a soft veneer of civilization and courtesy that lay over the establishment like eider down. It was the time that the most paperwork was done while those who acted most at night napped in the sun or walked the streets in peace, chatting up the neighbors and making sure things were happy in general. It was, in his opinion, the best time of day.
His pen scratched absently across the paper in time to his soft song, efficiently dispatching all of the Lotus' daily monotony with calm and ease. Every once in a while he would reach out to caress the black silk hair of the baby sleeping on a pillow on his desk corner, blanket wrapped around him. Satsuma was doing much better. With food, drink, and care, the feather-shrouded baby had perked up considerably and shown himself to possess a vibrant personality. At the moment, Fai was napping in their room with Tirasei, but Rei didn't have that option- and he was still a little too paranoid to leave Satsu out of his immediate supervision when he was up and about. Not that Fai couldn't have handled anything that happened, but...they'd found him in a TREE.
The little boy didn't seem to have any lingering effects of his unusual discovery, however. He loved attention and pretty gifts, offering in exchange a bright laugh and a smile worthy of breaking any heart. He'd be trouble later, Rei wagered, but for now he was simply adorable.
"Kotchi no mizu wa amai zo-" the man's hand reached out again, only to encounter empty air. His head snapped up in alarm, but Satsuma had only woken up; in true form, he had crawled over to one of the little teacups decorating Rei's desk and was staring curiously down at the tiny, living swan that occupied it's half-full depths. Satsu wore soft Chinese child's clothing today in purple trimmed with red, though his luxurious hair was pinned up as usual in the delicate chopstick-pins he'd worn when he was found. The sash of feathers that had hung so limply now floated around him without assistance, and his little wings were half-spread. The addition of his feathered bangs almost falling down to touch the little swan meant it was difficult to see the child through the feathers.
"Nnnngggooo?"
"Swan," Rei murmured, setting his pen aside with a rueful smile. There went his paperwork- if he didn't pause to focus on Satsu, the baby would be screaming in a second. Fortunately the bird didn't seem to mind her humongous observer. If anything she seemed equally curious; she flapped her wings to waddle gracelessly out of her cup, shaking off and leaving a minuscule trail of wet footprints across the wood of the desk. Delighted, Satsu followed, sliding down on his hands to lay flat on is stomach to put his nose on level with her. "Snnnnnnnnnn," he declared, and giggled when she waddled up to touch her beak to the nose in question.
Hmm. The little creature had always been indifferent to Rei before, even though he was the one who fed her- she seemed downright enthralled by Satsu. It lead him even closer to his initial suspicions about the baby's origins (as if the various feathers weren't enough to give THAT away). Fascinating.
With a sigh, he let the two play and went back to his paperwork. For once, the infant didn't seem to mind, and Rei was grateful for the respite. It was very strange...Satsu could be unintentionally cruel, throwing tows and pulling hair and screaming when he wasn't given his proper attention. Though he always regretted his actions and showed unending love later on, it was nothing like the breathless joy he seemed to take in the tiny swan.

RP: Sakura Sunlight :+: Satsu, Reihai, Tirasei, and Fai status: complete
It started out as such a nice day...and then they found the ants. Now we know two things- Satsu likes all forms of living creature, and Tirasei does NOT like water. Rated 'Well, crap' for cuddling, sandwiches, disasters, bugs, and much-needed cigarettes.
+ + + + + + + It was, without question, a beautiful day. The sun was bright and clear, with a soft breeze that cooled just enough to not be chilled. The clouds in the sky were decoration only, with no threat of impending storm. The little pocket park half-hidden in the depths of Chinatown held just enough trees to offer plenty of shade, while still letting sunlight pour down over the quiet little pond with it's stone bridge and border of irises. The blooms were white with a trace of purple, a perfect compliment to the occasional shower of cherry blossom petals that rained down from the heavily-laden branches.
The family had 'reserved' the park by word of mouth. A simple request went a long way, here, even if the asker wasn't the head of the local syndicate; the people were polite and generally respected each other. The respite from cell phones, gunshots, exhaust fumes, and irritated customers was more than welcome.
Reihai was not out to impress anyone today. The slender man was in jeans and a pale lavender t-shirt that had seen better days, fitting against his body with the occasional threadbare patch or flaking silkscreen. His golden brown hair was in a high ponytail, much to the fascination of the baby in his arms- Satsu occasionally made an effort to catch the ends, but his little arms were a bit too short. Rei's other hand was occupied with the boys' bag and the blanket, leaving Fai to bring Tirasei and the picnic basket.
"It looks like we picked a good day," he murmured, pausing just past the gate to smile back at where Koh was helping Fai get the second baby out of the car. "Okay, maybe sometimes you ARE right."
---------
The day was almost a little to amazing. Fai squinted as he stepped out of the car, reaching within his jacket pocket to pull out a pair of thin black shades. Once they were placed over his eyes, a small frown appeared across his lips- a little less uncomfortable and more annoyed.
"...'we'?" He shot the other man a mock scowl, eyebrows lifting behind the sunglasses. "I'm the one who arranged all this... you better appreciate the entire goddamn place."
He left the baby getting to Koh, who was holding Sei and the basket beside the car. Fai grabbed the blanket and shut the door, flicking a hand to signal the other man to follow as he walked to the path toward Reihai.
"... pick us a spot, Bǎobèi."
---------
"Sometimes you're so full of yourself I forget I like you," his Japanese companion shot back, blowing one of the feathers from Satsu's sash out of his face. "Oh, wait- that's most days."
He smiled, shifting Satsu to his other arm and sniffing out a good place for them to set up. Koh followed gamely behind Fai, easygoing in the face of an afternoon he got to spend in the warm sun and pleasant location, with no responsibilities aside from making sure the babies didn't crawl in the pond if Rei and Fai fell asleep. He nibbled Sei's hair, grinning down at him from just over his own sunglasses.
After a few minutes, Reihai located a place with excellent shade, close enough to the pond for the perfect view and still with enough space to spread out the blanket and be comfortable. "Right here- make yourself useful, Dragon. Too bad it's still a little too cool to swim, this place is beautiful."
---------
"Who knows whats in the water," Fai murmured, walking over to place the blanket. With one large toss he spread the fabric over the soft grass and gestured for Rei to sit. "Ta-da..."
Sei turned in Koh's arms to glance at him solemnly, lifting a hand to press it against the bigger man's face. He made a face, laughing before attempting to pull the shades off.
"Hashhhh?!" Sei shouted, fingers curling around the sides of the shades. "Tost."
---------
"Oh, sh-" Koh started, cutting himself off before finishing the swear and potentially getting killed by Rei. The pretty man tolerated Fai's swearing, but everyone ELSE was fair game for divine retribution. "Hey hey hey, you can't have those okay? I needs themmmmm..."
"You want to give your minion a hand there, Fai?" Rei asked dryly, choosing his corner of the blanket and setting Satsu down. The feathered boy immediately started crawling to the edge, staring at the grass poking up over the edge like it was the most fascinating thing in the WORLD. He decided to be adventurous as Rei reached up to take the picnic basket from Koh, setting out into the green foliage with determination. A quick grab from his observant guardian had him back on the off-white blanket and scowling at the dainty little printed flowers.
---------
Fai glanced toward Koh, barking something in Chinese to get the infants attention. Sei paused in mid-yank, peering curiously toward Fai.
"Snaa?" He released his grip on the shades, turning to wiggle free of Koh's arms and reach out toward Fai. "GissGiss!"
Fai walked over and took the boy, hefting him up onto his shoulder with a grunt. Sei cheered triumphantly, peering all around with large eyes from his new perch.
"So, what's in the basket?" Fai began to pace around the blanket, eyes on Rei.
-------
"Sit and stop looming," Rei chided him, plopping Satsuma in his lap so he'd stop working so hard to crawl off. He gave Koh a nod so that the driver could slink off to lean on the wall near the gate and smoke in peace; hopefully they wouldn't need a babysitter with both parents present. Koh was happy to take the chance, grinning at Fai and readjusting his sunglasses on the way out.
The picnic basket proved to hold very traditional picnic food- sandwiches, chips, fruit, and lemonade with a tupperware container of smaller morsels for the babies to gum. There were Chinese almond cookies as well, and a second blanket- for naptime. Later. <3
"It's hard to bring tea on a picnic," he said, looking up at Fai with a smile. Satsu looked up as well, squinting through the sunlight and whapping Rei in the chin with his pretty hairpins as he reached up to his brother. "Sei! Naaaaaoooow!"
--------
Fai grunted, tugging Sei off his shoulder and swinging him up and then down onto the blanket. He floated above the sheet, peering curiously toward Satsu.
"Naowhaaa?" Pale eyes glanced toward Rei, inquiring. Fai slipped his shoes off and sat with a grunt, getting comfortable.
"Tea probably wouldn't be good out here anyway. The weather and sunlight... " He shook his head, sniffing toward the lemonade.
--------
Satsu screed with delight, launching himself out of Rei's lap to hug his floating sibling. If he balanced on his knees he could just barely get his arms around Sei's waist, which absolutely delighted him- as if he could somehow be floating with the other boy. He grinned up at the ghost-child, sapphire eyes merry. "Seeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiii hi. Hi!"
Nodding, Rei poured him a plastic cup of the citrusy liquid, then filled two no-spill sippy cups and set them where the boys could find them. Finally, with a sigh, he laid down with his head next to Fai, closing his eyes to enjoy the feeling of peace.
"True. It's so pleasant, though- we should spend more time outside. I start to forget how to sleep properly. How are the streets this morning? I heard Mr. Ming is due back from his vacation..that's good. The fish will be fresh again."
---------
"Houuuuuuuuuu~" Sei smiled, wrapping his arms around Satsu's head. "HOUHOU!"
He was very happy to see his brother and was content to shift and climb all over him, mumbling in chinese-gibberish.
Fai leaned to peer down at the other man, eyebrow arched over his shades. "Fresh fish are the least of our worries right now.. but yes, good fish makes happy workers." He glances toward the bows, smirking as they flailed around across the blanket and noticed the sippy cups.
--------
"Fresh fish makes happy Rei," he yawned back, giving his lover a smirk. "As if you have anything major to worry about right now. So serious! How can you think of anything important? I think you need a sandwich."
He sat up to retrieve the food item in question, making the dragon a small plate of delicious things as he tried to figure out WHAT the boys were doing. From what he could tell, they were engaged in an epic battle that just happened to include flying Chinese martial arts and dramatic cinematography, but he was pretty sure that had something to do with Sei's floating.
Indeed, Satsu had discovered several days ago that tackling his brother resulted in a mid-air roll, since Tirasei was unable to touch the ground. This meant that for a moment Satsu was dangling, and sometimes- if they had enough momentum- they spun several times before he had to let go and hit the ground giggling. His feathered sash curled around them as they turned, little wings puffed out like miniature sails. Laughing, he dropped form another successful 'flight' and retrieved one of the cups- the blue one- and offered it to his brother with a bright smile.
---------
"I agree," Fai replied, pushing his shades up onto his head so he could see this sandwich better. A tiny smile crossed his features as he watched Rei fix him a plate and go about his 'duties' as his love slave. >>... <3
Sei was a little dizzy, floating on his back with his arms up over his head. "Nyaaao..." He whispered, turning to look toward his brother curiously. "Jusssss!" He stood back up, moving over to retrieve the sippy cup being offered. "Jussjuss. Teek!"
"There language astounds me." Fai murmured between sammich bites.
----------
"And everyone else. Sometimes I don't think they're speaking Chinese, Japanese, OR English," Rei snorted, filling his own plate and setting out the finger-nummies of cubed ham, fruit, cheese, and bread from the little container he'd brought for the boys. He saw that LOOK on Fai's face and scowled at him, threatening him with a chip. "Don't make me poison your tea; I can tell you're thinking something stupid."
Satsu made a sound of cheerful agreement, finding his own cup and crawling industriously over to the food. He was much neater than he could be, yes, but it still took a LOT of concentration just to get all of the little pieces into his mouth where they could be useful. Oh well- Rei had brought wetnaps. XD
-----------
"Neh neh neh... back off, viper." Fai growled toward Rei, waving one hand idly as he enjoyed his fruit. He shifted to lay on his side, plate seated beside him where he could pop delicious things into his mouth.
Sei walked over and sat beside his brother, peering curiously at the food but not taking any. He was content with his drink cup, glancing occasionally toward Satsu as he sipped.
"Nanas?"
-----------
"Nana." Satsu had accidentally squished one of the sliced bananas in his overzealous fingers, holding it out to Sei with a perplexed expression. Why did they always DO that? None of the other fruit was so resistant to being eaten in a normal fashion. "Ssskssh. Nnnnngooo shhkisssss." This terribly intelligent reply seemed to indicate that there was no hope for the nanas today, and he nommed the gooey mess off of his fingers before leaving the food to crawl back over to the edge, peering at the grass once more.
His timing in this case was good. Rei was distracted as he made a face at Fai, munching absently on his sandwich and leaning over to touch noses with the man. "I'll show you viper," he murmured, nipping at his nose. "Just wait. You won't know what hit you."
---------
"Tch.. I'm already feeling it." Fai rolled his eyes, wrapping his free arm around the other man's waist and tugging him over. He'd finished his food already, so he decided to harass his cocky lover. "-always hissing at me." :b
Sei sighed, shaking his head at the banana tragedy. It was sad, really. They just... melted sort of. He sipped his cup and looked toward Satsu, eyebrows up. "Wan?" He turned to follow him to the edge, looking out over the huge expanse of green.
"Wan-tsuuu?"
----------
"Tch." Setting his half-finished sandwich aside, Rei folded his arms across Fai's chest and smirked down at him, one eyebrow arched in derision. "Maybe you deserve it, lazy dragon. Always making trouble for me." He kissed Fai's nose, feet kicking idly in the warm patches of sunlight. Picnics were good for cuddling. <3
"Ook." There in the grass and encroaching on the edge of their blanket was a line of leaf-cutter ants, large members of the insect family carrying sections of leaf three times their size across the park to wherever their den might be. Fascinated, Satsu brushed his sash out of the way and followed the line, careful not to step on the tiny creatures. He crawled along the line and over it, so it ran between his hands and knees. "Eeefs. Go? Go, eefs?"
----------
"Wuseffs." Sei replied, following sagely behind his brother- as if offering some word of knowledge. "Eefsom."
He didn't have to worry about crushing them, floating above them- save the occasional swoosh of his ponytail- it was currently just high enough NOT to hit them.
"Go!! GO!!" He shrieked happily, trudging on behind Satsu.
"Me? Make trouble?" Fai scowled mockingly, shaking his head. "I would never." He leaned up just enough to kiss him, grinning impishly.
----------
"Hom? Eeffsom." Yes, this seemed quite wise to Satsu. He tracked the ants to a large mound of loose, sandy soil, watching in fascination as they crawled in and out of a large hole in the center. "Eeffsom! Oook. Eef, no eef, eef, no eef."
He then proceeded to sit right next to the pile, picking up one of the leaf-segments walking by and holding it up to show Sei. The ant that was attached to it was highly confused by this, crawling all over the leaf and the boy looking for the way home. Other ants were curiously investigating the interlopers as well- even so much as tracking their way up Tirasei's braid and up along Satsu's sash. Satsu giggled, finding hilarity in the way their tiny feet tickled. "Eeefs!"
"You make more trouble than anyone I know," Rei murmured in return, nuzzling against the other man's throat and oblivious to the wild escapade going on behind him. "And maybe, just maybe, you're worth it."
-----------
"Effesssss." Sei 'sat' beside his brother, watching the show with avid amusement. He didn't so much like the bugs on him, but he was quiet about it for the moment. "Ommee..." His voice sounded a little nervous about it as he looked toward Satsu. "Eees-ommeee."
"True," Fai replied with a grin, shaking his head. "Aww, that was sweet of you to say. Careful, I might get used to the compliments and not the bad mouthing."
---------
"Jackass." Rei smiled, resting his head on Fai's chest and breathing in his scent. He could easily go to sleep right then, comforted by the arrogant dragon and the comfortable day. ""We can't have that. You'll get soft, and then no one will respect you anymore."
"Oh." That was curious. How had they gotten onto Tirasei, he was always FLOATING. After a moment of watching (while the ants found him more and more interesting), Satsu noted the trail starting at Sei's braid and picked up the end. He handed it to the other boy so no more would jump on board, reaching up to pluck the ones he could see gently off of his brother's white hair. "Eefs offs. Offs!"
This brought his attention to his own clothing, however, and he noted that there were a rather large number of the creatures scurrying around on his purple t-shirt. That probably wasn't good. He liked his new friends one or two at a time, but not MANY...and there were still some on Sei. The magnitude of picking them all off and putting them back down began to upset him as he tried to set them all back down on the ground, one by one. "Offs. Offs, eefs! OFFS OFFS OFFS!"
-----------
Well, seeing Satsu upset began to upset Sei. He panicked a little, looking around and waving his hands. "OFF! OFF!!"
He shook his head, trying to knock the bugs in his hair out. "Geeoffff!!"
Fai arched an eyebrow, hearing the sudden shrieks from a few feet away. He gave a soft grunt, pushing Rei up a little. "What the hell is all that?"
----------
Fai's attention- and the steadily increasing volume of the boy's shrieks- turned Reihai's focus in their direction, as well. He shoved himself up off the ground with a frown, trying to understand the cause of their flailing antics. "Satsu, Sei? What is it..."
Horrified, his purple eyes fastened on the dark specks swirling around over the boys' clothing and hair and skin, taking only a moment to realize what was going on. "FAI! They're covered in ANTS!"
He yanked Satsu away from the ant pile,, brushing frantically at him since he seemed to be more covered than Sei. That proved fairly ineffective- leafcutters were stubborn ants, and all he could think about was that they would be BITING very soon. Only one course of action, then- a very convenient nearby pond.
Babies can swim, of course, so he wasn't worried about them DROWNING as he scooped them both up and tossed them (gently) into the water. That would handle most of the ants...he went pale, however, and turned sharply back to his lover. "s**t- is it okay for Sei to be in the pond?!" How fine was the line between 'ground' and 'pond'?!
---------
Fai arched an eyebrow, watching as Reihai scooped up the children and threw them into the water. Was he crazy?
"What the fu-" He rolled to his feet, walking over toward him. "What are you DOING? You can't just throw them in the water..." He frowned a little, glancing toward the gates. "KOH! Get your a** over here!!"
He turned back toward Reihai, shaking his head. "He's fine. Just make sure he's not drowning."
Sei was, in fact, flail-paddling his arms and floating. "WAAAH?!" He didn't like the water.
-----------
"They aren't going to drown, babies can swim," Rei growled at him, and blinked as Koh darted past them and cannonballed into the pond. The babies rocked on the waves of his arrival, and the driver broke the surface to grab both of them and haul them both to shore. Calmly, he pulled out a pocketknife and sliced open the back of Satsu's shirt to make getting it untangled from his wings easier- he knew Rei carried extra clothes for both boys.
"It's okay- we just need to get them out of their clothes to make sure the ants are gone. Boss, check Sei's hair...?"
Satsu was more distraught than afraid, sniffling at the motionless ants dotting the shirt that was peeled off of him. His friends...he clung to Rei when Koh handed him over, bedraggled and soaked. his guardian worked on finding the rest of the ants in his sash and wrapped him in the extra blanket before turning to help his lover.
----------
Sei did not like being wet. He was uncomfortable and unhappy... and now cranky. He scowled toward Fai as he approached, scooping the little boy up to inspect him at arms length. Fai's lip curled slightly as the boy dripped.
"Hnn." He picked the few bugs out of his hair, ringing it out and winding it up into a bun. "You're fine, stop that."
Sei's lip curled in a pre-cry snarl, eyes narrowing toward his unsympathetic Father. "NO! Buuussss..." He hung limp, sniffling loudly as Fai brought him over to Rei.
"Here... take this."
------------
Scowling at him in a fairly good imitation of Tirasei's displeased face, Rei took the grouchy ghostling and hugged him tight, whispering words of reassurance as he set him near Satsu and wrapped them up together warmly. "Shh, it's alright, Sei. No more bugs. No more bugs...it's okay. Everything is okay." Not that Fai was HELPING at all...jackass.
This seemed to be the opposite reassurance Satsu needed, and the other little one huddled against his brother with tears in his eyes. "Eeeffs go baaaaaiiii..."
With a lopsided little smile, Koh packed up all of the picnic things and brought the baby bag over to Rei before offering Fai a cigarette. He was dripping but his cig case (mostly full of Fai-placating tobacco) was waterproof, and this probably wasn't a good time to think about how cold he was going to be in the car's A/C.
----------
Fai flicked his shades back down, taking the cigarette with a grunt. He snapped out his own lighter, flame igniting the tip before he stalked off a few paces to inhale and stare out into space for a bit.
Sei leaned on Satsu, rubbing a fist across his eyes before whispering. "Hom." He rolled his head to the side, looking toward Reihai. "Hom...?"
-----------
"Home," Rei sighed, and spent a few minutes putting them back into clothing. They would both need a warm bath once they got home and they still looked a mess, but it was better than it could be. Koh helped them get to the car and get loaded up, waiting patiently for Fai to join them before taking his bedraggled family home. The day was still perfect...maybe if they settled down for a nap, he'd get the afternoon off. XD
