I never had a baby shower. When i got pregnant with my first pretty much all my family disowned me because i was so young and my son was biracial. Plus the fathers side of the family was less than enthused.
With my second my MIL ..well that whole side of the family hated me because i married her baby rolleyes and stole him away. The last part of my pregnancy was overshadowed by my husbands passing so i just got a few things from my mom the rest i had to buy myself. It stunk because there is almost 4 and a half years between my boys so i had NOTHING! However i know the rest of my family generally only does a shower for baby #1 unless the next is a different sex. Girls are sparce lol. My advice take what you can get and if nothing else just have fun getting together and goofing off with the gals.

I'd really like a baby shower of some sort, but I don't think I'm going to get one sad Oh well... My mom wanted to have one for me, but forgot about the subject, I don't think she remembers I'm pregnant half the time and I know my dad has 90% forgot gonk I don't mind though I guess because I'm used to being ignored and moving soon anyways so it doesn't matter. I'll move out of the house ASAP and then if I ever decide I want #2 I'll hopefully have new friends and such who would throw me one sweatdrop

Baby showers aren't done in Denmark, which suits me fine because we are doing things a bit differently than normal and people would probably buy us things we don't want. My in-laws are buying us a co-sleeper, and the rest we are getting ourselves.

When I lived in the US, I went to any baby shower, regardless of how many kids they did or did not already have.

Koneko, could you maybe remind your mom? Like ask, "were you going to throw a shower, because I want to know before I start buying things myself…" Sorry to hear your parents aren't more involved. I hope it's not too much of a struggle for you. sad

I didn't have a baby shower with my son, but I didn't live around family when I was pregnant with him. An Aunt helped me get all the things I needed though. I did have to do with out some things I would have liked to have had though because it's all so expensive.

My MIL is throwing a baby shower for me for my second because I'm supposed to be having a girl and there's a 4 year gap between my son and my daughter. So, a lot of the things that I had for my son got donated to charities after he outgrew them. So, I now have nothing. XD

For some reason I was always led to believe that you only get a shower for your fisrt baby, but now I have a friend wanting to throw me one for the 2nd. I really don't see why people wouldn't go, it's a different baby & a celebration + gift giving for the mom to be.

Did you end up having the 2nd shower yet???

I know a lady from my hometown who now has 6 kids, and she had baby showers for all 6 of them. I'm from a tight knit town, so people just tend to come together for stuff like that.

I think that there should be a shower for every baby. Just saying that it's... taboo to have showers for any other than the first is just disrespectful, I think... because it's a new life and deserves to be celebrated. It's still beautiful and magical.
