If she did loose her virginity then her whole mission would've been a total waste of time. Miaka couldn't summon Suzaku and the series wouldn't have a good ending. Even though she disappears after summoning suzaku there is a happy ending! but you have to watch the ending thing at the end of the credits to see the true ending.

when a priestess lose her virginity, she can't summon the god. eventhough, the people will cleanse her body with a cleanse water. it ain't going to work.

She would become tainted and wouldn't be able to summon the god thus making her useless and an outcast in the book world. She'd probably get pregnant too.
