I made this kind of quickly. It has water, fire, and death. The point is its supposed to create a dangerous smoke. Would it work? Also, if I left the pentacle on the ground would the smoke stay inside its confines?

It depends. How would this ignite to create smoke, why is death there, what is this symbol supposed to stand for, how did you create this symbol (meaning what tradition of sigilization), and why exactly would just putting a pentacle on the ground any sort of aid for containing a "dangerous smoke"?
Now my real question here is, did you really think this through, how this is supposed to work? Because not even magick works sans well thought out logic. And what is this supposed to accomplish.

I find this funny...
Isn't the elemental symbol for FIRE supposed to be an upside-down triangle? Water is right side up.
Oh, and PS, FMA =/= Alchemy!!

A good way to find out if it works is to actually try it. If you don't know how to, it might be an idea to quit making things you can't use.

Sorry I had little/no clue about alchemy, I made one quickly using what I had to see if I could understand the basics...there was no guide I could find, so i improvised.
I tested it, and all that happened was I felt tired...

FMA isn't real alchemy no more than Charmed is real magic. Ironic, isn't it? However, there ARE lots of books and websites about real alchemy- your library may not have books, but you can find websites if you look. It may be useful to look it up before you try stuff.
