I waited to watch the movie, because, when the movie was in theater (around last christmas), because I thought that is a poor copy of LOTR. After watching it on dvd I must say I was right, but to tell the truth, I have imagined such thing happening, because of the critics I read beforehand.
Another reason, why I just watched the movie now, was that I didn't knew the books before and I wanted to watch/read the movies in english.
Like some of you guys said before: just one thing was well done, it was Saphira but the rest was.... . Anyway I didn't like the "growing up" of saphira either, because it was a little bit to fast for me, but OK it was the freedom of the director and the script writer.
The rest... well I have hoped for better performance. But I was surprised, which of the essential scenes they had cut, like the blessing scene of elva, or the "escape" of roran and kathrina. Their relationship was totally swept under the carpet.
Just in the deleted scenes there was for a few minutes these scenes mentioned
I hope the adaption of the second book will be much better, when they make a film of it.
But we will see

I wanted these things that would have made the movie much better: 1. Arya's whole character re done. -hair color -ears -being unconcious -her personality -telling Eragon she was a princess 2. Brom -how he told his secrets -his last word where were they? 3. Saphira -grew up too fast 4. What the hell was up with the fight between Eragon and Durza? -Saphira wasn't supposed to be there -they were on the ground -no breaking of the "star saphire" -Arya and Saphira were supposed to save him -Where was the Mourning Sage?
I have many more but I'll spare you all.

I have to say that the movie had altered so many parts of the book, that they really can't make a sequel to it. Oh yeah what was up with the Ra'zac dying? That didn't happen in either Eragon or Eldest! stressed

I was so disappointed in it. My best friend recently saw it and I warned him not to, that it was trash, but he did it anyways and he agrees. They didn't do it right. The plot went so far away from the book it's not even funny. I mean Arya's character pissed me off. She's supposed to have DARK hair not freakin LIGHT hair. These people did not know what they were doing and they just screwed up the whole viewing experience for me. The only two good things about the movie were Saphira as a baby, cause that was the cutest thing EVER and Murtagh cause he was HOT!
Also the choice for a theme song was okay, but I don't think the verses are as appropriate as the chorus.

DEAR LORD. They changed so many thing in the movie, it's not even FUNNY anymore! I mean, take movies and books like Harry Potter. The movie makers were forced to leave out a few things, YES. But they don't change THE ENTIRE PLOTLINE ASKJGAKJFH!!!
I mean, straight from the beginning, there's something OFF. Eragon runs through a FOREST to get to the farm. Isn't it supposed to be some form of a lightly cleared PATH? I mean, WTF.
And THEN. They say Roran was sent in the ARMY! Oh, that pissed me off. I mean, in the book, he goes off to help to earn money to be able to buy a house and properly marry whoeveritisheproposedto!
And things just went downhill from there. :')
I'll disagree with Sorani on Saphira's voice, though. I actually sounded a lot like I imagined it..!
My FAVORITE SCENE from the ENTIRE movie was when they're both on the top of those little mounds, and when Saphira stands on her hind legs and spreads her wings, and roars because she's mourning Brom's death. THAT. Was the only good scene.

THAT. Was the only good scene. Well ofcourse! Such a powerful scene, not even the likes of Directors would dare mess with that! I honetly didn't care about all those other details, but the one thing that reeeaaallly got me off was the final battle scene! That was supposed to be the most intense kick a** scene and they ruined it so badly. First off, it's supposed to be bloody underground! There is no fight in the air! And, where the hell are the Kull?! Where are me giant 11 foot Urgals dammit?! And, this is the thing that beyond all measure disappointed me, I wanted to see Eragon stab Durza in the heart and yell, "Brisingr!" But they cut that out too and replaced it with this crappy line, "I was expecting more."

God save your soul from watching the movie from hell. Lol I also noticed that they didnt go to the right citys, the one dude on the Ocean they were supposed to go to never existed, and Angela was supposed to be living on a port, not a town on a river. I still think that Brom was neccisarily right either, I always imagined him a bit older, and a silver, longer beard, not a short dark grey beard.
One last thing... at the beggining of the movie, the poor farmer boys' clothes were so tattered (sarcasticly). The seriously looked like they belonged to a royal family from modern day =o
Saphira grew up in about 10 hours of life, all happening within 15 seconds. Not only that, she came with the name, and she was way to intelligent for being 10 hours old. She even skipped dragon kindergarden.

I pretty much agree with everything people have posted in this forum. The movie was absolutely horrible when compared to the book, but I think that by itself it might have been an ok movie.

I absolutely hated the movie. I had read the books and was excited and I went with my friend who had never read the books. I only knew the plot because of the books! My friend had no clue what was going on or why characters reacted as they did or why the elves had no pointed ears. The rakguls looked like mummies, the urgals looked like barbarian humans, and the dwarves just looked like people. It had bad casting and a worse plot. If you haven't seen it, don't. Stick to the books...less disappointing.

I saw the movie with some friends, and they were whispering the entire time about what the producers changed. If you're comparing the movie to the book, i will agree with just about everyone in this thread. It sucked. But you have to remember that most people are too lazy to read a 600 page book. You know how some people do their book reports. Pick a book that was made into a movie (or vice versa) and do the book report that way. I did find the plot a bit hard to follow and it was kind of dull. It wasn't as action-packed as the book, so I wouldn't watch it again without another distraction like a puzzle or something (or better yet, a sleeping bag and pillow). I don't mind going to a movie that just happens to be based off of a book, but when it comes to Eragon, i'll just read the book and let the movie play in my head. Much less disappointing.

And they forgot the proverbial Cheshire Cat, Solembum. The people who made this movie will die a slow and painful death. I can think of a list of ways they could've made it better-- 1. Regarding Saphira's growth, one word-- Montage. 2. Eragon looked like a pampered brat in the movie. he was a FARMER'S NEPHEW. Portray him as such. 3. Why would a Dragon have Feathers? Take the feathers off. 4. Ra-zac are supposed to be expert human hunters. How would they get killed by a Fledgling dragon rider? 5. the Gedwae Ignasea(I forgot how to spell it) is supposed to differ from person to person. why would they all look like an 'e'? Because the list is too long, I'll leave it you your more-than-capable imaginations.

*Firefly* Sorani ...and it SUCKED! My mom rented the DVD, and we watched it on a car ride to the beach. WTF?!?! You never even find out that Brom's dragon was named Saphira! Then they make Arya and Eragon split up, but they went together to Ellesmera! And they always called it Ellesmere! Where's the 'a' in Ellesmera? The elves didn't even LOOK like elves. Arya was shorter than Eragon! She didn't even have the pointy ears! Arya was a b***h, as well! ARgh! Brom was the only character who LOOSELY stayed to the plotline. Where were the Twins? And Saphira needed a better voice. I'm sorry, but Rachel Weisz had too gentle a voice! Saphira needed someone who sounded more masculine, yet still distinctly female. ARGH! The only thing I really liked about the movie was seeing Saphira hatch from the egg. But she grew up in SECONDS! I mean, SERIOUSLY! That NEVER happened in the book. She grew up alot slower! And I really like the CAPSLOCK key. =D And that's about it. So...add your comments here. um, somehow i don't think they can cram months worth of dragon-growth into two hours... I know the movie wasn't fantastic, and it strayed from the book story lines (especially with Galbatorix and the twins). But quite a few of these plot points (such as the Roran/Katrina, Twins, etc) were covered, but were in scenes that weren't completed in the film. As for sequels, I've heard a rumour that they're considering shooting the next film sometime towards the end of this year.. don't get me wrong, i thought the movie was a touch... bad... to be put nicely, but i would still be interested in seeing how they continued the story line... as for the baby dragon... 4laugh I want one! xd 3nodding There could have done a Saphira growing up montage, i want a baby Saphira too, and basically everyone is right about the movie sucking. Also, xXxPrincessAryaxXx is right about why it sucked and Yorozuya_Harujiro is right too.

I'll agree that the movie as compared to the book flops even more than a fish out of water. The writers/producers/whoever made some rather poor changes. It was disappointing.
There were some things I liked in the movie: baby Saphira, the way they handled Brom's "burial" scene, and at least the fights were interesting to watch.
As a movie alone, not compared to the book, it was at least exciting to watch. It will be interesting to see if they do make a movie from Eldest.
