Ehh.
Advoid Paint... It doesn't have any use of layers... There are some good free downloadable programs, try the art tutoral [on gaia, not this guild] for a couple of links.

OC [Open Cavas] is less then the size of a song on your MP3, and its a great program, you can use layers, AND you can network with Hamachi, even save event files! 3nodding

I agree with the OC thing~ Though -- it's a bit hard to get used to.

You can also use oekak, located at http://www.oekakicentral.com

The images look like paint, but you geta couple of layers to work with. C:

I suggest that you make your lines first ( make them reallyreally clean) then use the fill bucket to put on the base colors, then use the select tool ZOOOOOOM'd waaaay in, and select what you want to shadow up.

Basically.

Ooh, Paint is a very bad program Very basic.
If I were going to offer you help, I"d say this:

Enlargen your canvas a little bit. Then, go down to the bottom and click on all of the colors, changing them until you've got a TON of different colors that you're using. Line the other color up neatly on the extra space you created by expaning the canvas. Now you can find other colors easilly. Just use the eyedropper.

Use larger brushes for larger areas, smaller ones as you add more detail.
Start with dark, and then move towards the lighter colors. You'll probably need some mid-tones in order to make the bright color blend in more with the dark colors. Paint the mid tones so it overlaps the bright and the dark. This way, it looks more like a shade.

It's a very rough way of doing things, and it won't come out glossy... but if you do it right, you can pull it off.

(I know this thread is an old one but...)

Hmm, I think it's wrong to attack paint. Sometimes it's all you've got, and I've seen some great artists draw on paint. For example:

User Image

Not that I can give any help, but it is possible to do nice art on paint.

Paint requires more patience and effort than I can stand. If you really want to do coloring, I do recommend Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0. I got it as a gift, so I've no clue as to the expense of it, but it is most definitely 10x better than Paint ever could be.

And haven't you tried colored pencils? They're plenty fine and hardly expensive.
