{:The Quilt:}

Miyu watched with morbid interest as the sewing needle wiggled back and forth as she moved her index finger. She had, by complete accident pricked her finger on the sewing needle so hard that it was stuck to her finger without breaking the skin. At least she didn’t, not like when she pricked her thumb earlier. The bandages on her thumb as well as her other fingers were a testament to how many times she poked herself. It seemed that Miyu was not so good with a sewing needle, well she wasn’t a terrible sewer, but she did have a habit of poking herself with the needle. She sighed as she plucked the needle from her finger, it would have been easier if she had gotten help with this project, but she wanted to make the quilt all by herself. She even planned what was going to go onto the quilt by herself too!

She had drawn everything out on a huge piece of paper cut out all of the patterns and then cut out all of the cloth patterns and had sorted it so she knew where to get it later. It was going to be a time quilt or comforter with a huge tree that was split into two, day and night and the border was going to have the four seasons. She had a green leaf for summer, a flower for spring, a red leaf for autumn and a snowdrop flower for winter. Snowdrop flower instead of a snowflake she thought it was better since there were two leaves for two of the seasons. The hard part though was sewing everything together.

Though once she managed to sew it together she could start stuffing it with feathers, the really small ones that everyone with wings shed, though she hoped most of it would be stuffed with hers. The thought made her happy as she started sewing once more making the stitches as tight and as evenly spaced as possible.

No matter how many times she poked herself she kept on going, because this was a special project for her. Though for the rest of the week she wore bandages on her fingers.

{:Things... Happen:}
Entry log October 10th, 2008

Daddy says because I am older than a lot of Seconds I should write in my journal more. It makes me feel very smart because Daddy and Uncle Yuki didn’t start writing their journal until they were teens. I got to do a lot of things by myself except cook. I can’t cook without Uncle Triton with me because I’m too small, but I’m not too small to heal people!

I got to heal Daddy’s boss, Headmaster Scott, because Uncle Yuki said he was very, very sick. He felt very sick, like his tummy was a big black lump that didn’t work so well. He must be very strong, because if I was that sick I would want to be in bed and have only soup. But now Headmaster Scott is much better, I even gave me a good kiss on the head.

Being able to heal isn’t the only neat thing to happen to me. I almost got a pet too! A doggy I called Inu-chan, but my doggy wasn’t really a doggy. Daddy said bad students turned Were-ah… Uncle Triton’s best friend into a doggy. Uncle Yuki said it’s a good thing it’s just Were-ah and not some boy, I don’t know why he said that though. Grandma was able to turn Were-ah back into a girl, but she got turned into a princess! She was wearing a pretty white dress and had very long hair. I hope she doesn’t cut it she looks very pretty that way.

{:Miyu's Choice:}

Even knowing she would get one last visit, the thought of Yami-san leaving depressed her. She understood though, after all how could she not? Her Auntie had explained it all well that there was something really mean and big out there and only Aragost could keep it from hurting others. Still, despite this she couldn’t help but feel a bit selfish by wanting him to stay, and that made her felt guilty. These conflicting feelings made it so difficult for her she found herself experimenting by herself in one of the magic labs. Miyu wasn’t sure what she wanted to do, but she just wanted to spin off energy all the while trying to muddle through her own thoughts.

In the cold stone lab the icy swirls of snow whirled around her as Miyu held her hands out as if she was holding something. There seemed to be a light to be glowing between her hands. Her eyes had a far off look as it stared into the light, so deep into her own thoughts she was that she didn’t noticed the door open. It wasn’t until the echo of boots off of stone did she realize she was not alone. She didn’t bother to look up though, she knew from the sounds it was Toshiro.

Toshiro and Miyu had an understanding of sorts, both were young, but they were much older. Only Toshiro actually acted his ‘age’ so to speak, he liked coffee and preferred a good book when he wasn’t cat napping or training. He had the air of an adult who didn’t like stupidity, and would be quick to correct you if you were wrong. Still, despite the way Miyu talked he acknowledged that she was in some ways as old as he was.

“Still thinking?” it was a rhetorical question.
“Mi…..”
Toshiro walked up beside Miyu and looked at what she was working on, “It’s only normal, he made you come out of your shell, but now you need to learn to come out without him.”

She frowned, it could be because the next part of what she wanted to do was difficult, this was delicate work after all, but it was more because Toshiro was right. Miyu had made leaps and bounds since her first meeting with Yami-san. Other events had added to her somewhat found independence, but Yami-san started it all. The young angel though had a long way to go; she still tended to be terrified of new people.

What was she going to do without Yami-san being there? In more ways than one Miyu knew it was silly, if she could be near Yami-san she could be near anyone friendly. Still, she kept visiting because of Yami-san, but it wouldn’t be fair if she stopped because of that…. It would be selfish, she didn’t want to be selfish.

“What if he doesn’t come back?”
Toshiro blinked and looked thoughtful, “Then you’ll have to find a way to live with it, because we’re still young. We still have growing to do, and we have futures, even if we haven’t chosen them yet.”

Miyu nodded at this as she seemed to spin around what she was making, as if to work on a different aspect. This was true actually, they had futures and Miyu knew her future meant magic. She couldn’t imagine of doing anything that didn’t involve magic, or healing. However, what could she do? She spread out her fingers revealing what looked to be a several pointed star that seemed to be spinning, but it wasn’t like any star that Toshiro had seen before. The wind seemed to pick up and funneled around the room spinning to the point where it whistled.

“Yami-san would prefer it, this is going to be our last visit after all,” Toshiro tried to get through to her.

She frowned, no… it wouldn’t help if she stopped going. Miyu grasped what she was working on and seemed to be squeezing it. It didn’t break though, or at least it didn’t seem to even though her hands where closing in on each other.

“No,” she told her uncle, “It won’t be.”
He raised a brow, “What? You’re going to continue going to go and mop?”

She shook her head focusing on the object before her. This was her chance; she had to choose what she was going to do next. So far she had been waiting on others, and she knew this. Waiting for her father, waiting for Toshiro, waiting for Yukito and even Yami-san, they all taught her but she didn’t do anything by herself. Opening up her hands again, the winds died and there was a small orb that looked like it held the night sky. In fact there were even constellations, but none from Gaia. No… they were from a different world, which was probably why it kept flickering showing different stars, and different constellations, without being in the world it didn’t know which sky to show.

“Daddy said he was helping at the school before he was one year old, but I have no where to go, but I can go help Grandma. I’ll keep visiting and I’ll be a healer there instead,” Miyu showed Toshiro what she did, “Besides, that world likes you, you aren’t so sleepy there.”

Toshiro had not expected that answer at all, but he couldn’t disagree and couldn’t help but chuckle at that. He nodded in agreement to her opinion that sounded like a much better idea than moping. Who knew? Maybe she would get stronger from it.

{:New, Strange and Large:}

“DADDY!!!!” Miyu’s voice wailed out.

Yue flinched causing him to drop the staff he was holding; honestly one cannot blame Yue for flinching. The cry was so loud that he was pretty sure everyone on the clan grounds could hear her. Not waiting to see if she would come out (because the last thing he needed was a traumatized daughter) he turned on his heel and dashed to her room. It wasn’t so much he thought something terrible had happened to her, he had utter faith in the seals and he knew Miyu would do nothing reckless. However Miyu he also knew did not take anything new, or strange, or large very well, which was why he nearly skid into the wall when he turned the corner in his haste to be there for his little girl.

In fact, Yue nearly ripped the door off its hinges to open it, it was a good thing he didn’t. The door was the only thing supporting him when he saw what the ‘problem’ was.

Sitting on the ground in the middle of the room was his daughter; at least… she looked like his daughter. She had long silvery hair in a braid, icy blue eyes, small black wings and pale skin, all Miyu like traits except she was… bigger. The girl, woman… teenager was at least six feet tall, her braid was no longer a skinny rat’s tail, but thick as if it was going to burst from its confines, along with bigger hips and chest the only thing Yue could think of was thank the goddesses her clothes grew with her. Oddly enough the only thing that didn’t seem to grow was her wings, which were cute little things compared to her larger body.

New body, strange view and a large Miyu, that was a recipe for a very traumatized Miyu.

“Daddddyyy!” came another wail, “Something happen to me mi!”

It seems growths didn’t get rid of her need to put ‘mi’ at the end of her sentences sometimes. Yue hurried over to his daughter kneeling beside her, just looking at her height he had a sinking feeling that Miyu just might end up taller than him.

There was irony in that.

He wrapped his arm around her shoulder trying to calm her down, the last thing he needed was for her to be traumatized from growing, though he also had to admit the amount of height gained made her growth from Surprise to Child seem like small stuff.

“I can see… and you look very beautiful right now,” Yue replied softly, “You’ve grown again Miyu, now you’re nearly as tall as some of the elves you stay with.”

Though Miyu will probably never been as tall as her Yami-san. At least Yue hoped that wouldn’t be the case, because that would be just plain odd even for him. Miyu sniffled a bit more looking at her father. She trusted her Daddy the most, after all she loved being around him and nearly always was growing up.

“Really? But my other clothes don’t fit….”
“Well, clothes tend to not fit after a growing, we can go to Helen later,” Yue assured her, “And it also means that while you’re here you can actually start being Yukito’s assistant.”

He was always told if all else failed bribe, and Miyu adored her uncle so he was pretty sure she would be pleased at that.

“His assistant?”
“Yes, it means you can help out more, do other things, research if you want, and get paid.”
“Paid?”

Yue realized that now would not be a good time to tell Miyu the implications of growing was that she now had part her foot out the door to independent adulthood. Granted, she always had the skills for it, but no one would take a child seriously, now Miyu had both skill and physical appearance. Of course telling her that might send her into a panic attack, which wouldn’t be a good idea.

“Extra spending money,” he replied quickly.
“Oh…” Miyu looked thoughtful about that, “I can do a lot of things now that I’m bigger?”
“Many things, just give it time,” he assured her, “I’ll seem less scary in a few days.”
“If you say so… mi…”

Yue couldn’t help but chuckle as he hugged Miyu close. He was, sort of sad knowing that she out of all his children would be the most likely to start a life away from home (if she gained the confidence to do so), but she would do so much. He was sure of it.
