A seventh season is just about in the bag - we know that - and Al Gough has pretty much stated that he'd like to do eight. The problem is we know Michael Rosenbaum won't come back for an eighth, and Kristin Kreuk probably won't either.

Given the talk of eight seasons, I'm gonna go ahead and assume that Welling is signed on for an eighth, or willing to sign on. If they're losing both Kreuk and Rosenbaum, they're going to want Mack and Durance on board as well.

I think if they change the focus of the show they could have Lex as an unseen character and have Clark deal with Luthorcorp on other levels, especially if Clark started to make his own journey towards journalism.

The problem is I don't think the writers are adventurous enough to pull something like that off.
