Here's an easy and cheap way for you to make a ton of terrain.... Find yourself a few friends who are willing to split the cost on a bag of aquarium gravel, a bucket of filling compound, and a bag of coarse sand.... actually, if you know anyone who accidentally left a bag of tile grout out in the rain, you can probably get yourself enough basing material for a lifetime, but I digress.
Plastic bottles and pop cans make for good holding tanks, and those netted bags that oranges come in make excellent fences if you use a set of $1 bamboo skewers (also useful for a slew of other things). you never know what you'll find at the local dollar store.
