Training Session 1

Session No: oo1
Instructor(s): Char-Langui and Svarsika-la-toa
Type: Required
Focus: Introductory
Additional Sessions: Unlimited

The two Force masters entered the training room together as the younglings sat crosslegged on the floor in the middle of the room. Svarsika-la-toa slipped off her outer robe and tightened the belt around her waist. Her curved lightsaber hung fastened on her side. Char-Langui merely tied a sash and set his wooden staff along the wall.
"Welcome to you first training session." The small , wizened man said, readjusting his spectacles. "The firsts few lessons will be conducted together, Jedi and Sith."
"We will be taking things slow, allowing enough time for each of you to fully master each lesson before proceeding." Sva'La said, adressing the group. "The first few lessons will be rather introductory, but we trust that bright students such as yourselves will waste no time in movement forward."

Char Langui stepped forward, placing his hands on his hips. "Firstly, we'll begin with providing a foundational understanding of the Force. As it will become your main tool, it would probably be useful to know a bit about it." He said, his voice tinted with sarcastic humor. "The Force will be your strongest ally, your greatest tool, and will enable to do many things. In this lesson, we want you to begin to establish your connection to the Force."
"A connection to the Force is equatable to a unique and individual relationship." Sva'La continued. "A relationship such as this must be cultured and established step by step. Connecting to the force will not happen overnight... it is a lifelong process." She smiled, spreading her arms. "What we want to teach you all, is how to open yourselves up to it."

"This 'opening up' is accomplished through a variety of different ways." Char Langui continued, picking up where Sva'La left off. "I reccommend, for my students anyways, to use their emotions as channels through which they can access the energy around them."
"And I suggest a slightly different option." Sva'La continued. "For my students, I reccommend first connecting with a personal tranquility. When one is calm, they can then open themself up to energy around them. They can sense it, feel it, and tap into it."

The two masters rejoined each other in the center. Sva'La retrieved her cloak as Char Langui reclaimed his staff. "For now, we leave you with these intructions. We want you all to practice opening yourselves up to the force, feeling its energy." Char Langui said, grasping his staff firmly. "Do not try to manipulate it yet, just acquaint yourself with the Force instead. Consider it the beginning of your relationship."

Training Session 2

Session No: oo2
Instructor(s): Char-Langui and Svarsika-la-toa
Type: Required
Focus: Introductory
Additional Sessons: Unlimited

The two temple Masters returned to the room, their steady gazes sweeping over their young audience. Sva'La smiled and gave a small nod in greeting. "Welcome back to your second lesson." She began, making eye contact with each student as she proceeded. "A path of Jedi or a Sith requires much practice, discipline, and repitition. Some lessons will be impossible to grasp in a single practice session. Others still will benefit from multiple practices."

Char Langui cleared his throat as he joined in. "Today we want you to work further on establishing your connection to the Force. In your private sessions we encouraged you to begin to set up the foundation of your relationship with the Force. To some, it might have been difficult to reach out and connect with such power but you should all have been able to at least sense its presence." He paused momentarily, allowing his words to sink in before continuing. "Over the course of the next several lessons you will be expected to discover a way to open yourself up to the Force. As we mentioned previously there are various channels and methods for you to experiment with."

"In the first lesson," Sva'La began, folding her hands together as she spoke. "We recommended first seeking personal tranquility in a private place. The solitude would then quiet your mind and allow you to open youselves up to the energy around you. During this lesson we are going to demonstrate another approach to the Force." Sva'La paused for a second and her eyes closed. With her next breath she gathered the Force around her and let it ripple among the students seated in front of her. Like an ocean, the Force crested over each student like a wave. The Jedi Master slowly opened her eyes and the energy that had filled the room slowly ebbed away. "Could you feel it then? It's power, it's security, it's energy?" She asked the students rhetorically. "The Force resides in every living thing: every individual, every animal, and every plant. Each individual thing has it's own unique presence in the Force that can be sensed and felt."

"For you second lesson," Char Langui continued "We are encouraging you to find a partner to work with. Work together to access the force, feel it build between you. Some students find this more successful than attempting to reach out on there own." Sva' La nodded in agreement as she added the final instructions."The Main Hall or the Courtyard are both suitable locations for two students to meet. The alignment of the pair does not matter at this point, a Jedi may work with a Sith if they so desire. If there is an odd number, some students may be expected to practice with multiple partners until everyone has had a chance to complete the second lesson." She paused before continuing. "If anyone has any questions, you may contact a corresponding master or knight present." The two temple masters bowed slightly as they turned to exit. "May the Force be with you all"

Training Session 3: Grasping the Force

Session No:
oo3
Instructor(s): Svarsika-la-toa and Char-Langui
Type: Required
Focus: Introductory
Additional Sessions: Unlimited

"Welcome to your third training session." The Jedi Master Svarsika-la-toa begins yet again. Just as before, she was joined by her counterpart, Char-Langui in a centrally located training room between their respective temples. Beyond the two masters sat a small group of students, each with a unique presence in the force. Sva'La smiled when she considered their distinct personalities. "If you found the second training session difficult, then you are not alone. It was a lesson designed to challenge you while also testing your ability to work with another student. In the future, Jedi and Sith will take part in missions and assignments that will depend on a group of individuals. The ability to work together to accomplish a common goal is critical. The relative "success" of your second training session is only of secondary importance."

Char-Langui nodded in agreement. The second lesson had indeed been an early challenge for the young initiates. After Sva'La finished her overview of the previous lesson, the Sith Master took the opportunity to introduce the third lesson.

"The third lesson," He began in a deep voice that was seemingly uncharacteristic of a man of such limited stature. "Will be focused on more practical uses for the energy which you have been previously training to sense. During this lesson, you will be encouraged to grasp it. Instead of just "feeling" the potential of its power, you will now practice the ability to influence the power to produce a tangible result." The Sith Master paused has he reached inside his cloak. Moments later, he withdrew a small silver orb that fit in the palm of his hand. The orb shimmered when it passed through the light, yet it passed no inherent abilities. Quite simply, it was a common spherical object made of a metallic substance. "Each of you will be receiving one of these." He continued, holding up the orb for all the students to see. He passed it from hand to hand and gave it a small shake before continuing. "It's a small metallic orb that will be the object of your next training session. As you can see, the orb possesses no special attributes of its own... and yet..." The Sith Master's voice trailed off as the orb slowly began to levitate and hover a few inches above his outstretched hand. The Master's demeanor and expression did not change as he slowly folded both of his arms, leaving the orb hovering in mid-air just beyond him. "And there you have it" He smiled as the previously suspended orb sudden fell to the ground. A harsh clattering sound was produced as the orb struck the stone floor and bounced several times before rolling to a stop. The Sith Master reached out his hand again using the force to call the orb back to him. As the orb flew back into his palm, The Sith Master just smiled and tucked it back into the corners of his cloak.

"This demonstration is what you will begin to attempt." Sva'La explained. "Before you leave, please grab a silver orb of your own-- located in the bin by the doorway. We do not expect complete success as we understand it will take much practice. Yet with each try, we are confidant that you can become closer to manipulating this object just as you have seen Char-Langui do. Practice finding the force, and channeling it to influence the movements of this orb." She paused before issuing her final thought. "This may be excercised individually or in partners. If you found through the second lesson, it was easier to feel the force along side another student that we encourage you to follow that method. If you prefer doing the lesson individually, that is just as valid. Hopefully you will enjoy this lesson, and may the Force be with you"

Training Session 4: Responding to the Force

Session No:
oo4
Instructor(s): Char Langui
Type: Required
Focus: Introductory
Additional Sessions: Yes - one repeat per each level (1-9)

The Sith Master Char-Langui stood in the center of a smaller sized room of the Sith Temple with polished stone walls and floors. This was the first lesson that the students were separated according to their force alignment. The Sith Master watched as a smaller group of students sat crosslegged around him.

"Welcome." He greeted with a slightly gruff voice. Though his overall nature did not appear unfriendly, he did not was time trying to sugar coat his introductions. "As you have probably noticed, this is a lesson just for the Sith studens. The Jedi students will also be introduced to the same concept though we will be following a different technique." The elderly man paused before beginning again. "So far in your introduction to the force you have begun to develop your ability to sense and grasp the Force. During this lesson, you will need to put this ability to the test." The Sith Master withdrew many strips of black fabric from a nearby container bin. Separating one such strip from the pile, He held it in front of him for the students to see. "This is a blindfold which you will be using during this lesson." Char Langui said as he began to hand each student a single strip of fabric. "This lesson is very simple. This Blindfold will be used during this training session." Once each student received a black cloth he retrieved two additional bins from the back wall. One held small orb like droids and another had a collection of training sabers. He watched with amusement as the student's faces immediately brightened at the sight of these instruments. "Now then.. listen closely for I will only be explaining this once." He began again with a stern voice. He reached into the bins and withdrew a training saber and a small orb. Holding the orb up above his head, he pointed to the large red button on the top side. "This is a laser droid." He explained. "Pushing this button right here will activate it. Use this dial on the side to control it's difficulty. Since this is your first time, you should obviously place the setting on level 1. On level 1, the droid will hover in a stationary position while shooting out lasers at a timed interval. The intensity of the level 1 layers are very low, they will feel like a sharp sting but nothing worth whining over. As the levels increase, the mobility and speed of the droid increases and the intensity and number of the lasers fired increases. This is why you will be starting at level 1." Char Langui temporarliy replaced the small droid and picked up a training saber from the adjacent container bin. "Like the droid, big red button turns it on" Char Langui continued. He depressed the button with his right thumb and the blue blade came to life with a vibrant hum. "Please do not sever any limbs with this... you have no reason to get it near your body or another's. I do not believe the energy is intense enough to give more than a slight burn, but I do not wish to try it out." The Sith Master paused with a slight shake of his head. "In short, this training saber will be what you will use to parry the laser bolts from the hovering droid. Upon hitting your saber, the bolts will become defracted and dissappear. If the lasers hit the stone walls, they may bounce a few times before eventually losing their energy. Overall this should not be life threatening."

Char-Langui took a moment to survey the students before him. He doubted even half of them could manage this lesson without a few burns and bruises. "And however..." He began again, rapping his cane on the stone floor to regain the students' attention. "The object of this lesson is to feel the Force in a clear, distinct way. Previously we have practiced conscious ways of accessing the Force. This method depends on the unconscious-- one's instincts and reactions. The Force is a tool that will sharpen these instincts and reflexes exponetially. But before you can learn to weild it, you must learn to recognize and respond to it. The blindfold that you will be wearing will actually help to depress your natural senses which only serve to slow your reaction time. "

With these final words of wisdom, the Sith Master passed out a training saber and a laser droid to each student in addition to the blindfold they already held in their hands. With a final reminder as to the location of the medical unit, Char-Langui sent them on their way.

Training Session 4: Introduction to Lightsaber Combat I

Session No:
oo5
Instructor(s): Char Langui
Type: Required
Focus: Introductory
Additional Sessions: Up to three

For this lesson, the Sith master had chosen one of the larger training rooms of the temple. Behind him, by the back wall, a series of ominous looking training droids, more complicated looking than the ones in the previous lesson, floated. Upon their arrival, he tossed each student a blindfold and a training saber.

“I expect,” he said, “That none of you got to level nine with the previous lesson. Slackers.” He selected a student in the front row to stare down. “If, by some twist of fate, you did make it that far, this should be a relatively simple lesson. Today, you will be learning the basics of lightsaber combat.”

He paused, waiting for the students to calm themselves, and then continued. “You will each be assigned to a droid for sparring for the rest of the morning. In the last exercise, the droids merely fired jolts of electricity, but these droids are armed with the same training sabers as you and are significantly more intelligent than the other ones. They will move and they will plan. If you use what you learned in the previous exercise, I should see you all back here intact when we break for lunch.”

Before the students scattered, he held up a finger to call their attention back and concluded, “Please be careful. It would be a tragedy to destroy such fine-tuned droids.”

He grinned widely and sat down as the students dispersed. This would be an interesting morning.

Training Session 6: Introduction to Lightsaber Combat II

Session No:
oo6
Instructor(s): Char Langui
Type: Required
Focus: Introductory
Additional Sessions: No repeats.

Char Langui regarded his students with subtle amusement. Wimps, the lot of them, covered with bacta patches following their last lesson. Well, there would be more singes where those came from.

“Having fun yet?” he asked them. The response was mixed. “I hope so, because you’re doing it again. This time, however, we’re upping the ante. Instead of fighting droids, you’ll be fighting each other.” He judged the response as he distributed sabers and blindfolds. “As usual, these won’t maim you, but, as you’ve learned from experience, they can burn you quite painfully. I guess you have all the more incentive to learn how to parry.”

He laughed dryly.

“A living opponent can think and improvise in ways a droid cannot, so you’ll have to be quick on your feet and sharp in your senses to succeed in this exercise. Try to trust your emotions and your instincts, because they’re usually right, and for Force’s sake, don’t go against your gut.”

He watched a few students fidget like they were expecting him to dismiss them.

“You can work with other students from this temple, or from the Jedi temple,” he said, anti-climactically. “And, one more thing – the knights will be choosing apprentices based on your performance today. You’d best do well or it’s off to Agri-corps with you!”

He roared with laughter and dismissed them to go train.

Training Session 7: Lightsaber Construction

Session No:
oo7
Instructor(s): Independent
Type: Required
Focus: Introductory
Additional Sessions: No repeats.

When the younglings return to the training room following their completion of the sixth lesson, they find it locked. Instead, there is a notice affixed to the door. It reads.

  • Attention students: For those of you who have completed the sixth lesson and been chosen by a master, it is now time for you to begin the construction of your lightsaber. Unlike the pre-fabricated training sabers you have used for practice, the lightsaber you build will be an individual as unique as you are, and it will be deadly should you use it carelessly.

To construct your lightsaber, you will need to acquire the correct parts. The core of a lightsaber, and indeed its very heart, is the focusing crystal. You can acquire a crystal from any source you like around the temples. Some may be found in the surrounding jungle, and others may be requisitioned from Riddick. If you have not yet met Riddick, now is certainly a good time to make his acquaintance. He’s our cargo runner, and he’s certainly a character.

Once you have your crystal, you will need to find casing and internal components. Specifics may be found in the archives. If you have not yet had reason to use the library, now is as good a time as any to familiarize yourself with it. Lightsaber components can be acquired from various workshops around the temples, as well as from Riddick should you be looking for something special.

Upon completion of a working lightsaber, you will officially begin your apprenticeship.

Training Session 8: Application to Obstacles

Session No: oo8
Instructor(s): Char Langui
Type: Required
Focus: Apprentice
Additional Sessions: Yes.

Today the students have been directed to one of the larger training halls. Master Langui meets the students as they enter and directs them to assemble on a row of benches against the wall. Behind him rises an obstacle course the kind some beings could only dream of. Platforms, gaps, sheer walls, rope swings, tunnels, and long stretches that simply *must* have hidden, wicked traps extend before them.

"Hope you slept well, lumps," says the human master. He motions to the setup behind him. "Today, you will run this obstacle course," he explains. "It has been designed to be difficult, or even impossible, without the use of the Force, so listen up."

"These past few years, you have learned how to contact the force, how to channel it through your body, and how to interact with other objects using it. Today will put all those skills to the test. In each section of the course, you will need to work a different skill."

"The initial wall-climb will require you to perform a force assisted jump. The platforms will further test your mastery of the skill. The ropes will test a different ability, but I will allow you to decide for yourselves what the best way to handle that is. The tunnel and the final run will require you to allow the force to guide you in different manners."

He bowed curtly to them and took a seat at the end of the bench.

"There is nothing here you have not done before," he declared, grinning sadistically. "No, who's first?"
