Aila-al-Jehan Joshua_Ritter Aila-al-Jehan AAH. I see. Yes, from what I hear the Lovecraftian guys are some vengeful dudes. Quite honestly, I'm surprised that you lasted half a year. I know I sure as hell wouldn't. Good job on your part, you have my respect.
I know how they work, theyre godforms, right? Like super powered Egregores? They're formed by the man who wrote them up, and amplified by people's perception's of them. Oy.
Well, all I can say is, if my friend is telling me right, you can read the myhts of the greek gods and goddesses and they'll give you a good view of what they like. Mostly, they like a party. And to be honored as the super-special-awsome gos that they are. (Thats not sarcasm.) They're quirky beings, but they're some sneaky, vengeful bitches when they're pissed. Its mainly just dont do anything blatently disrespectful, dont proclaim yourself as better than them, and dont set off their particular pet peeves. Don't a couple of guys get shot down with lightning for committing the hubris of approaching Olympus without an invitation? Haven't heard of that one. But then again, I dont think he nor I plan on going there anytime soon, so... Well, again, that falls under proclaiming yourself better/on the same level. Olympus is the home of the Gods, not us mortal dudes. They do hae their boundries. Yeah... just be careful. Real careful.

I'd say maybe you should talk a look at the other gods too. There are other gods besides the Greek ones...people seem to forget that.
Also, some Greek gods aren't the easiest to work with. Zeus is a good example. Zeus HATES humans. Read the myths, you'll see what I mean. He acts as if they are nothing more than playthings and has done more than his share of raping and killing. Athena and some of the other gods aren't bad to work with, but believe me I say that there are many other gods which are just as potent as the Greek gods but much less pissy/dramatic.

WEll, if he wishes to worship and work with them, I don't think you should discourage him from that. I personally don't feel its right to just pick and choose gods to work with, like "oh he's nice" "oh no, he's kinda bitchy" "She's good, but kinda melodramatic". You like a God and you feel that they chose you well, you deal with their short comings. Sure they aren't perfect in our sense, but what do you want? Theyre gods.

I never said he shouldn't work with them (some Greek gods aren't bad actually). I just wanted him to be open to the possibility that there are other gods out there. I'm also not buttering up the Greek gods either. I don't believe in making a god look sweeter than they are. That's what I've seen a lot of people do. I think that when you worship a god, you should know the truth about them. Not the Disney versions. And I believe that unless a god comes down and claims you, then you should have some choice. Not everyone is lucky enough to be "chosen". You should worship a god whose values you can follow. If you don't believe in chastity, then don't worship a god who advocates it. You should never be forced to follow a god, there should always be a choice. Its about researching and finding a deity who represents values you as a person value. When it comes to personality quirks, I admit that all gods have them. Its what makes them unique. But there are indeed some gods which are more misanthropic than others. Not all gods like to screw with humanity.

Oh, yes I know a few of thier quirks. I've read some myths in my time. I was thinking of making my patron goddess Gaea. Maybe going with Hephaestus as my patron god.

Myth wise, I think those are good choices. I have a friend who worships Hephaestus and is quite pleased with the way things are going religion wise.

I tend to like making things with my hands, so I figured he would be good to go with.

Hephaestus is one of my favorite gods, he's so cool. I write fiction and named a starship after him. Athena's cool too, if not for all her war and wisdom charms, but simply for causing the worst headache in the history of the world.

Does anyone here know much about the daimones? I read this page that gave a list of them and what they presided over and was curious about them.
