Maloventh was sulking.
While this was not unusual in itself, the strange fact about it was that he was sulking alone. During the morning Luna had placed him in the care of a strange Clip Clop from across the way, telling him fiercely not to cause trouble, before leaving.
He'd given the strange Clip Clop the slip, that was true, so now he was free...but he was also knee deep in this detestable mud that was so common in these nasty fields he was confined to. And he was condemmed to stay that way until something took pity on him and helped him. Rather unfortunately for him, he hadn't picked the busiest of fields in which to get stuck in, and was now contemplating three or four hours of waiting.
Maloventh did not contemplate this quietly, or happily.
"It es her fault," He muttered. "She force me to stay vith zees strange people, in zees nasty green fields. Nasty child."
He continued on this vein for a while until, to his dismay, it began to rain.
"Idiots!" The Vampire yelled at the sky angrily. "Zey are all mad!"

Illusion did not mind the rain, perhaps because the aftermath always included a rainbow. At least, it always did whenever she was around. However, one thing she did not appreciate was getting wet, and so today she carried about with her a broad leaf which she used to shield herself from the water. Droplets streamed off it and fell harmlessly to the ground, missing her. It was a very convenient contraption, allowing her to move about even in dull weather.
She was in the process of returning from a visit to Rudras, that reclusive winged clip-clop, when she heard the ragings, sound carrying surprisingly well in all that water.
Under normal circumstances, she would have ignored such loud ravings, save that they had a very distinct accent... oh dear, was Luna having difficulty with her new charge, again? Illusion picked her way delicately through the mud, intending to give the other clip-clop a hand... only to find, as she approached....
No Luna.
Just one very wet and angry (and sticky!) Maloventh.
"Oh dear," she said, taking the situation in, with one rapid glance. "What happened here? How did you... get stuck?" But without waiting for a response, she was already trotting off..... leaving Maloventh there? Surely not! But... lo and behold, she suddenly bent down and picked up a long branch between her teeth. And then returned.

"Oh," Maloventh said, eyeing her with distate. "It iz vun of zee bright ones. Vy- Hey, vere are you going?!" For the ClipClop had started to move away. Panicking slightly, Maloventh twisted his upper body around as far as it would go and was relieved to see the rainbow Clip Clop walking back towards him, carrying a branch.
"Vat is zat for?" He asked suspiciously, surruptiously trying to back away in the mud. He got a large squelch for his troubles, and his hoof sank even deeper into the mire. Perhaps she was going to attack him with it? He'd never been particularly nice to her, after all. Maybe she would use this as some sort of revenge.
This thought did not bode well with Maloventh. "You," He paused. "You are quite a pretty Clip Clop, for a bright vun," He said, attempting to be nice so that she would perhaps help him. The effect was ruined slightly by his forced smile which (rather alarmingly) revealed his gleaming fangs.

Illusion could not help but laugh at the vampire clip-clop's attempt at a smile that looked.... well.... it put her in mind of wild creatures caught in knotholes, or stuck inside logs. Although, considering what Maloventh had been, that was probably not so surprising. However, laughter dislodged the branch a little. She had to snap it back into place - only then realising her dilemma. Unable to speak with the branch in her mouth, she placed it down on the grass near the mud.
"Have you always been this way?" she asked, then before waiting an answer, gave directions. "I'm going to hold onto one end of the branch. You hold onto the other. Then I'll try to pull you out." Having said that, she picked up the branch again and inched towards the mud's edge, extending the bit of wood ahead of her.

Ah, so that piece of wood hadn't been for trying to attack him. Maloventh eyed it warily still; it did not look so strong. He had to admit that it was a good idea, though embarassing. He hoped fervently that no-one witnessed this: he, Maloventh, being rescued by a mare, and a rainbow one at that!
Still, he wasn't stupid enough to refuse the offer, and after a moment's pause, grabbed the end of the branch in his mouth. The wood buckled and splintered between his fangs, but if it did the job, he supposed it was worth it.

Illusion heaved on the branch, hoping she might be strong enough. However, whilst she was a healthy enough clip-clop, it didn't follow that she had a great deal of muscle. She wasn't a warrior. Or a bodybuilder, for that matter. Nevertheless, she did her best, heaving on the wood, and hoping that Maloventh was not too stuck.

Maloventh would have grumbled if his mouth had not been full of wood chippings. This Clip Clop was obviously one of those flimsily weak ones. And to top it all off, now the wood was cracking firmly between them. Maloventh attempted to lunge out, helped by the pull of the wood, and to his surprise it worked, stumbling out of the mud.
"Pah!" He spat out the wood gasping, and shook his head before returning his attention to his rescuer. "Zank you," He announced. "It vas vairy unpleasant in zere."

"I can imagine," Illusion said with a sympathetic look to the vampire one. Then she wrinkled her nose delicately. "I think, after all that mud, you need a bath. Come on. I'll show you to the closest springs." And she trotted off some distance, then paused and turned back to see if Maloventh was following.

"Bath?" Maloventh asked suspiciously, wrinkling his nose. "Vat is zis bath?" He inquired, jogging after her - she'd taken off rather suddenly, and his coat was heavy with mud - and then nearly collided with her, when she stopped suddenly. "Vere are ve going?"
