And we care...why, again? I mean, since we're going to favor and promote the pairing anyway? blaugh
And I didn't like how half the characters in Sailor Moon got a gender adjustment/relationship adjustment, and how the Amazon Quartet just basically got booted out of the spotlight for their animals.

I think that I may be using to much logic but if i made a series that became popular and then was asked if two men where supposed to be gay when I knew they had a huge fan girl base i would have probably said it was up to the fans as well.
For me there are way too may hints for this pairing to be just fan made, but it isn't canon.
I honestly think he said that so neither side would lose, the rabid fan girls would be happy as would the people who saw Kurama and Hiei as a couple.
So yes it is Fanon! Not Canon or fan made!

Canon= A very obvious gesture of romance fron one character to another in a series. This would include, kissing, hugging, saying "I like you," or "I love you," etc, etc...
I have read all of the Yu Yu Hakusho manga, I have seen all of the Yu Yu Hakusho anime series... numerous times. Guess what? I have not seen anything between Kurama and Hiei IN THE SERIES(this does not include official promotional images) that would even remotely suggest they are canon. Just because there's an image of Kurama hugging Hiei from behind and it's official does not mean that Kurama and Hiei are a couple. I have a poster, on my wall(yes I WILL scan it for you all to see in the near future) of the four main boys. Thry are all on white outfits and water is spraying behind them as if they were in a water fight. In this image, Yusuke is embracing Hiei, and Hiei is smiling. Oh my, by that logic wouldn't it mean that Yusuke and Hiei were canon!? *Sarcastic over dramatic gasp* NO. It's a flippin' image! Look I am a HUGE yaoi fan girl, I ADORE the Kurama/Hiei pairing more than anyone will ever know... but you know what. I am SICK of people using images that were just drawn for promotional purposes as evidence to back up pairings!
I have a theory... Togashi is all laughing at us... rofl Yup, he put in hints that would make Kurama look both gay AND straight and "proofs" that Hiei and Kurama were a couple, and "proofs" that they were not, just to see us all tear each other apart over it. rofl rofl rofl
Come on guys, we already adore the pairing, nothing would ever change that, even if Togashi came out and said they weren't meant to be together... So why are we stressing about whether it's official or not? Let's just go on loving it and live in peace supporting one of the cutest Yu Yu Hakusho "couples" we know. ^_^

Candid-Ishida I think it's obvious that the people to made the anime liked the idea of Kurama and Hiei together (or at least thought it would gain viewers) or they wouldn't have created two official pictures of the most reserved and serious characters in the series getting all snuggly? Can you imagine Hiei EVER letting someone hug him unless he really, really cared for them? Of course you can't. And as for the original manga, since Itsuki is very openly in love with Sensui, Togashi obviously isn't against the idea of two males loving each other. And he probably shares a lot of the same views as his wife, or they wouldn't have gotten married! And we know SHE sure as bologna isn't against same sex love affairs. So yeah, i just repeated some of the things everyone else already said! And as for Mukuro... it's obvious she loves Hiei, but it's even more obvious that she is his MOMMY! AHA!! I mean he follows her all around like a little puppy or something and i can so just see her dressing him up in one of those cute little sailor suits with a hat and a big lollipop just to make him mad and then laugh evilly. Yeah... And Mukuro wouldn't get in the way of Kurama and Hiei's love, because she too is a yaoi fangirl! Mukuro can never have a boyfriend of her own because her female parts are all horrifically melted away by acid and her life has sucked so much that's she's all, 'I am dead inside...' So since she can't have love herself, she wants to see Kurama and Hiei be in love! And maybe sneak some pictures (cybernetic eye = spy camera??) And maybe some people haven't seen this yet, but at one point in the tournament she says something, and then Hiei's all like, 'Everyone's an enemy i'll kill anyone, rah' And she's all OH REALLY??? and then totally not discreetly looks over at KURAMA. So ha. She knows better than him what he wants. And that's my theory. Fwaa!! My thoughts exactly XDDD

Togashi did want to do a homosexual centered manga. I have vol. 1-4 of Yu Yu Hakusho and he talks about a manga that he created that never saw the light of day called Troublesome Quartet. He says it was supposed to be a sports manga with homosexual character and cross-dressing.

 yeah he doesn't talk about it after the first volume for some reason. And he married the Sailor Moon creator in 1999. 5 years after the manga was over with.

i just got finished watching the movie. Is Hiei really the b***h? I mean he tells Kurama he doesn't need his advice when Kurama suggests telling Yukina the truth. And when Kurama is fighting against the guy disguised as Koronue Hiei says that it is Kurama's problem. Not very uke XD.
