Better of Two Evils

High potency marijuana did exist a long time ago, and I've read read that the original study was bogus, because they took some really old weed from a police station that had years to deteriorate, then some newly locked up stuff. There's going to be a big difference.

Users also build a good degree of tolerance to it. My memory and concentration are only slightly dulled by it anymore. I got an 85% on my AP Calculus final(my school has a really good program for it too. Nobody has ever gotten lower than a 3 on the AP exam) last term.

It dilates blood vessels, and the heart rate gets slightly. If anything, I'm getting more oxygen. Blood pressure while upright is also slightly lowered, but when laying down is usually raised slightly.

It's been used to relieve anxiety, depression, nausea, pain, to induce appetite, and lowering pressure inside the eyeballs(preventing/alleviating glaucoma).

Oh, and alllllllllll that dangerous smoke. It only takes one puff(for somebody who keeps their tolerance low) to get a buzz off marijuana that can last 2-8 hours(depending on tolerance and quality). It takes, even relatively new tobacco smokers half a cigarette or more to get a few minutes of pleasure.

It's not possible to overdose on. If smoking is a problem, then one can cook it or make it into a drink.

Cost wise, most pot heads who keep their tolerance at a decent level(not that hard to do), could stay high most of the week for $20-50 dollars. Which compared to alcohol and cigarettes seems reasonable.

DISCLAIMER

I'm not promoting that everyone does marijuana. I'm just pointing out some other arguments on it.

EDIT!!!!!!!!

It's also very easy to tell if your stuff is laced unless you are new to smoking marijuana. Besides the fact that nobody wants to put a bunch of expensive PCP or salvia in your marijuana for free, especially since PCP would run a decent chunk of money around here.

Besides that, PCP would make it smell like rubber instead of marijuana, and it'd probably look different and have a different consistency.

I off and on smoke weed. One of my friends got me into it and I think that it made me a better person. Before the first time I smoked pot, I had intense back pain that could only be relieved by a muscle relaxer prescribed by the docter. I also used to be very panicky and freak out about almost everything. I hated it when people stood behind me and I also hated it when someone was taller than me and close (which is bad because I am shorter than a lot of my friends.)

My friend introduced me to pot and my problems seemed to melt away. My panick attacks slowly went down to nothing and my back pain is also a thing of the past, a few twinges can be felt now and then, but that is about it

I am not telling anyone that smoking pot is a good idea, I think that some people might take it as a way to get more drugs, but I didnt. I am avidly against alchohol and ciggarets, the former because it caused a family death and a divorce, the latter because they stink horribly. I like the smell of pot sweatdrop

I have a friend who smoked pot all through high school, swearing up and down that she could quit whenever she wanted and that it wasn't a gateway drug. Wrong. She moved back to Manitoba and got into E, heroin, cocaine, among other drugs. It took a long time for her to quit, and she wasn't even pregnant.

I realize everyone is different, and pot won't affect everyone the same way. However when you're pregnant, I fully believe that for the sake of your child, if not yourself, that the mother should stop smoking pot. To do otherwise is stupid, irresponsible and extremely selfish. A baby deserves better than that.

An excerpt from my college textbook "Child Behavior and Development", copyright 2003 Pearson Education Canada, about the effects of marijuana during pregnancy:

Quote:
"...Another illegal drug, marijuana, is used more widely than cocaine and heroin. Studies examining its relationship to low birth weight and prematurity reveal mixed findings (Fried, 1993). Several researchers have linked prenatal marijuana exposure to smaller head size (a measure of brain growth), newborn startle reactions, disturbed sleep, and inattention in infancy and childhood (Dahl et al., 1995; Fried, Watkinson, & Gray, 1999; Lester & Dreher, 1989). As with cocaine, however, long-term effects have not been established."

Your agruments sure have changed through out the thread. Your finding ways to justify your original statement, "I've been smoking pot since December of 2005, and I don't think I'm addicted." If your truly not addicted, why do you keep doing it? The whole, it takes the edge off excuse is pure crap. Everyone gets stressed, and drugs is a stupid, selfdestructive way to deal with it. I'm thirteen, practically not even considered a teenager, and I get stressed, but I deal with my problems. I take a walk around the closest park and think about what buggs me and ways to fix it or I think about the positive things going on in my life. Or I listen to music or play volleyball, there are so many positive ways to channel stress, other that looking for serenity in something that you well know is damaging you. Your logic is just so stupid, it's almost to say, I'm not a addict so I'm going to keep on to see if I do get addicted.

No matter what kind of smoke a person is taking it into the lungs not for medical purposes, there is a problem.

I am not going to say marijuana is addictive, even though I believed it is, but a lot of people has told me it's not or if they haven't realized it yet.
I am not a drug user, not really because it hurts my body, but I am not willing to spend my money on them.

Marijuana still isn't GOOD for you, regardless of whether it's addictive or NOT.

It is STILL linked to long-term memory and concentration problems, and is very bad and permanently damaging to a baby if you're smoking while pregnant.
It can be the difference in your child's grades in school for their entire life.
And after I wrote that, I just saw that the person above me has a pregnancy ticker in her signature.

Good luck with your child.

So, knock the article all you want. Drugs are a teenage thing, and once you grow up, you stop them, if you're smart.
If you're a mother or will be soon, you should have gotten smart when you found out you were pregnant.
it dosent do all that much damage my dad wich is a obgyn he has smoked pot since he was 13 and he is very intelligent has no problems as far as i can tell, and he is the most recomend obgyn in town

This is like my older brother, he does it like everyday. I just don't how you can stand doing it every day. Don't get me wrong, I like to do it now and then, but I'd hate to be in that state all the time. He hasn't done anything with his life, I'd think his smoking and friends is what has dragged him down. Luckily, I don't let that crap get in my way.

I don't know what you're talking about, since I don't and have never smoked pot in my life.

A lot of people don't have a good understanding of health or of research. So many say, "Well, I've done pot and it didn't do anything bad to me" or "Well, I know someone who does it all the time, and he's fine" or "My friend only does it once in a while, it's not addictive." They don't realize that people react to things in different ways, and there may be consequences that are not immediately obvious.

Marijuana doesn't seem to be directly addictive. But that doesn't mean people don't get addicted to it. People can get addicted to anything that makes them feel good such as pot, video games, sex, food, etc. So whether someone gets addicted to pot or not usually depends on just how good pot makes them feel and just how prone they are to addiction.

Side effects can vary from person to person as well. Maybe Uncle Jim and your friend Steve seem fine after smoking, but that doesn't mean they are fine or that you'll be fine. Marijuana is linked to a wide variety of health problems, a lot of which are rather subtle, things that might not show up right away, things your friends and family members might not what to admit to you (impotence), or things they might not even notice (low sperm count).

We don't know a lot about the effects of marijuana on unborn babies. Why? Because it's a hard thing to study. We certainly can't tell women to smoke pot during pregnancy so that we can study their babies later. And we try to study women who admit to smoking or who are caught smoking. But the problem is that a lot of them do other things too, such as have a bad diet, drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, do other drugs, etc. So it gets hard to determine for sure whether the marijuana has the ill effects or something else. But so far it does look like marijuana is certainly not good for babies and is also probably linked to a wide variety of health and developmental issues, some of which might not be apparent for years (such as social disorders and learning delays).

Most people hear all this stuff from their health teachers when they're in school. So they know this information. But I don't think most of them understand the information. Most of them can't seem to get past, "But my Uncle Jim is fine..." They don't understand that it just isn't worth the risk. And that's a shame.

I don't think she was talking to you. I'm assuming she clicked "quote" on the wrong post. Because there is another girl in this thread who said she has been smoking since Dec. 2005, doesn't think she's addicted, and didn't even quit when she found out she was pregnant because she found a ridiculous website that said that pot does not have negative effects on babies. So I'm assuming she meant to quote her.
