Buttercup stared at her paws focusing on the smallest detail possible just to keep her eyes from darting everywhere. She didn't remember everything that had happened. She didn't remember at all. The choker around her neck seemed to tightened it's grip around her throat. It was already so hard to breath and the thick feeling that sat there wasn't helping. She wanted to believe him. She wanted to believe every word but she just couldn't. Zetsumei was strange and she barely knew him. The trembling continued as she whined softly.
Being vulnerable and girly wasn't anything she enjoyed. She didn't want to show that she could feel pain or shame. Actually...she didn't want to sow any sort of emotionn besides anger. He had made her happy. Their conversation had made her feel important and paid attention to but this was an entirely different situation.
She'd woke up next to him...in a field...with her head on his paws.
"I...I...want to believe you." Not knowing what was going through her, she moved closer to him. It was obvious hat he was as confused as she was but it still wasn't enough for her. A paw took the mallet, dragging it to her side. "I'm sorry." Was it the compassion in her that made the mallet waver when she moved to strike? Or was it love when it stopped inches from his head?

The whine that floated almost piteously through the air was nearly enough to break him there, but Zetsumei merely pinned his ears back at the sound, his resolve firm. And yet, his memory took him back to just before she had fallen asleep, the sweet weight of her head warming his paws while he had gazed at her so fondly. Love or not, he didn't like seeing how upset she was--upset because of him. Why had this happened? Maybe his father had been right all this time--maybe venturing out to be with others only made problems. "...I understand." The words felt wooden, resting awkwardly on his normally cheerful disposition, but it was the best he could do. For a moment, Zetsumei merely bowed his head at her approach. "You don't..." A sigh escaped him, and he wordlessly shook his head. "You have nothing to apologize for. I..." He trailed off hesitantly, unsure of what to say. What if she found out that she was...What if he had been wrong? She was approaching, and he straightened, but made no sign to move. The danger of the mallet was still present--but he couldn't honestly say he wouldn't deserve it. But perhaps he truly hadn't expected her to swing. His body jolted, eyes flaring wide as instincts screamed for him to move...but Zetsumei fought against himself, forcing himself to stand and take the blow, hoping that it would smash the shame straight out of his body. Yet it never fell. An hushed exhalation of air forced itself from his lungs, and he stood quite still before beginning to speak in a low, almost urgent tone. "If things turn out...turn out badly, I beseech you, find me. I'll not have you stand and suffer alone, not when I am to blame. Break me, do what you will with me--but know that I will not allow you to go through it alone."

Buttercup froze for a moment, only listening to his words until her arms burned with the weight of her mallet. The more he spoke, the more it felt like her heart would pop from her chest with a sickening crack. Those few moments before sleep trailed back to her fury ladened mind. He was so warm and soft the she couldn't help but rest her head there. He had been so welcoming. Almost an open invitation to be close to him and she had relished every moment.
The mallet shook uncontrollably as well as her body. It wasn't everyday that she felt close to someone. Buttercup never felt close to anyone or never wanted to accept the fact that she was close to them.
"Zetsumei..."
Her voice broke as the mallet fell to the ground, sticking up from the gash it had made in the earth. It too spread pink around them, casting a soft glow in the light. She looked solemly up to him, nearly pleading in forgiveness with her eyes beore moving to him to press herself against is chest. Something had obviously gone wrong...she thought...but why would he care about her feelings. He didn't have to.
"I couldn't do that to you." This powder was playing more with her emotions than she had once thought. "I believe you. I really do..."

It was impossible to see her clearly behind the enormous girth of the mallet, but he could hear her speak his name, could hear the uncertainty within her voice. And then, the barrier between them fell, the ground rumbling its disapproval before it opened up to accept the heavy weight of the weapon. Wordlessly, he allowed her to approach, his own eyes mirroring his regret for having upset her. She had every right to be angry, of course--but when she pressed herself against his chest, a weary sigh drifted from him before he dropped his head to nuzzle the top of her head. "I'm so sorry." He said quietly to her, listening to her speak. "I'm...Things got out of hand." Zetsumei felt feeble, leaning against Buttercup as though to ease his own pain. "I don't understand what's happened...but...I will keep my promises to you." A softer version of his rumbling purr came forth again, trying to reassure her that everything would be all right. "...Thank you." He shifted faintly, quietly staring over her head at nothing in particular. "...For believing me." Zetsumei wondered faintly if he had made a mistake, gaining her trust like this. To think of what he had just done only hours before...It was unthinkable. What if it happened again? The kitsu shook his head, long, dark hair flying until he seemed to settle once more, content to simply stay close to Buttercup.

In this instant, there was nothing more that she wanted. To know that everything was mostly okay between them made her heart melt. She had been upset with him moments before for what they had done. Was she actually mad at him? Was she mad at herself. There wasn't really anything to blame for what had happened but also, no one who could say why it did.
The soft nuzzle to her head made the smile creep back over her muzzle. "I don't blame you. I could never blame you. It...it wouldn't be...right." As much as she hated to admit it, Buttercup liked to do the right thing from time to time. She may have looked cold and hard on the outside but she was nothing but a kitten if you could break through her rather tough exterior.
Maybe Zetsumei was the only one who could...
Her tails curled slowly around her, flicking from time to time as she leaned against him, supporting both him and herself. As she sat there mulling over everything that had happened, her features smoothed out. Her eyes softened and starred almost motherly down at the bands on his forelegs.
"Zetsumei? Would you be angry if I said that I loved you?..."

Zetsumei still blamed himself for what had happened--it had been he who had started things, not her. But even so, to know that she no longer seemed to be angry was enough to have a wave of relief sweep over him. "No?" He questioned softly, a ghost of his former, crooked smile twitching across his muzzle. "I shouldn't have, either way, but I'm glad to hear it." Faintly, he wondered if this was the Buttercup underneath her hard shell, or if it was the powder still. He still stuck fast to his theory that it was the reason they'd gotten so loopy. Either way, he enjoyed this gentler side, lowering his head once again to affectionately nudge at one of her ears. With a contented sort of sound, Zetsumei curled a little closer around her, his tails falling across her own, musing over the softness of the appendages. Her question caught him completely aback, however, and he almost looked startled, his eyes widening and his ears pricking up as though they couldn't believe what they'd just heard. "Angry?" He repeated, then laughed aloud, dropping his head to nuzzle at one of her cheeks. "No, no...because I think I feel the same way. About you, of course." Zetsumei added, shaking his head. "...I know it happened rather fast...but..." He trailed off, trying to come to terms with himself, "...I do care for you, Buttercup. I enjoy being with you...and, granted, you're beautiful."

Buttercup smiled against him, burying her muzzle into his fur. As much as her right mind wanted to deny it, she had feelings for Zetsumei. Whether they were brought on by the powder or just enhanced by the sweet smell. This mind didn't care which it was but somewhere inside her, the protests stopped at her confession, almost content to let this Buttercup take over for a short while longer.
At the soft touch to her ear, the kitsu purred softly. The soft feeling of his tails on her made them lay still and made press herself closer against him. In all honesty, she liked the affection. The "tomboy" never got the admiration of males. Well, at least not this way. It was a different feeling to be talked to and held . She never thought being close to someone could feel so good and...right. His words were met with a rather happy sigh and a n** to the shoulder.
With her muzzle still pressed against his shoulder, Buttercup genuinely smiled for the first time since the power filled her senses. Maybe she was finally coming to grips with her feelings for him or maybe that small part of her mind was up to one last trick.
"Beautiful huh?" She chuckled softly, before caressing the band on his forepaw and giving him an affectionate lick back. "Something is terribly wrong here...but I like it this way."

Her affection was enough to make his heart swell slightly, his neck arching with pride as he felt as though he'd finally done something right. His own hesitation was slipping away with her reassurances--she did care for him, he could see this. And why shouldn't he care for her, in return? His mind offered feeble protests, but they were not enough to smother what his instincts told him; he too, had feelings for Buttercup. A crooked smile splayed itself across his muzzle, and Zetsumei lowered his head to gently nibble at one of her ears. He himself had never experienced true affection: his father had never offered any, and solitude had kept him apart from other kitsusagi for too long. The n** made him chuckle a little, gently nudging at her neck while his tails twitched with pleasure. "Beautiful." Zetsumei reassured, eyes widening faintly at the lick. He couldn't beat down another grin, however, and returned the favor to one of her cheeks. "Mm, true..." His mood grew more solem as he was whisked away into thought, staring quietly off into the distance. "Something's happened...yet, I feel no longing to put everything back to normal." The male leaned against her gently, a contented sigh huffing its way out of him. What more could he want, truly?

The feeling inside her grew 10 fold at his musings. Instincts were a powerful thing and they were certainly stronger with the pink powder that layered everything in a pink sheen. She had never felt so close to anyone before except for maybe Bubbles and Blossom but she would never admit to that. That, to her, was crazy talk.
She nipped again at the feeling of his muzzle against her neck. Never having to be affectionate like this before, it was so new to the seemingly childish female. It wasn;t like her to not want to be alone but if Zetsumei left then she didn't know what she would do besides follow him. For once, her heart was telling her to stay with kitsu beside her no matter what happened to her or anyone else really.
"Then neithe of us wants to..." With that soft remark, Buttercup pushed herself away from him and fell to her back submissively, letting the pink power puff before she swatted at the residue around her nose. A chuckle lit up her face as she drew her paws tightly to her chest only letting the stray to bat at the dark locks around his shoulders. It was hard to tell if she was just a long sick kit or persuing more demanding attentions. She hoped she made her intentions clear enough with a soft purr and soft pawing at his nose.

It was almost ironic for him, to say in the least: Buttercup had been one of the first kitsusagi that he'd come across, but already, she'd come to be very dear to him. Another n** earned a rumbling purr of a laugh deep in his chest, and Zetsumei gave her an affectionate nudge. Whether these feelings had been born of natural circumstances, he found that he no longer cared. All that mattered was that they were happy. As Buttercup unexpectedly fell back and away from him, Zetsumei tilted his head with surprise, a crooked grin settling itself on his muzzle. She looked adorable, with her paws curled up and the pink powder now shimmering in her hair. He tossed his head playfully at the bat to his hair, his posture transforming into something sneaky as he proceeded to skulk in a circle around her. "Don't think you're running away now." Zetsumei teased lightly as he dipped his head down to nuzzle at her nose. With his tails giving a few flicks of amusement, the male flopped down by her side, his head resting on her chest. Another rumble of a purr drifted from him, and she might have been able to feel his lower jaw vibrating with his tender affection. He was proceeding slowly, it seemed, not wanting to make a mistake and do something too rash. He pawed gently at her, nuzzling a little closer, all while waiting carefully for any sign of signal that told him to back off.

Zetsumei's almost predatory gaze soothed her out of her pent up nervousness. At least, she thought she was nervous but maybe it was just the tension that locked her muscles as he m,ade circles around her. Only her eyes followed him for those few moments as words finally formed on her tongue. "I wouldn't dream of running away from you..." Her tails curled around themselves at the feeling of the podwer settling around her again. Something about this seemed so wrong yet undeniably right.
She'd barely known him when they'd met just sometime earlier but he still had some kind of place in her heart, how ever faded and shadowed she tried to keep her feelings.
The breath that she had been holding deepened at the feeling of his muzzle on her chest. Thankfully, she felt her body melt under his attentions. A soft and cheerful sigh accompanied a slight shiver. Buttercup reached out to nudge gently at his ear. "I'm yours now Zetsumei..." It was barely over a whisper but she was sure that he would hear and understand it considering tht she my mere hairs away from his ear. Nibbling softly on the tip, the green-clad kitsu purred loudly, leaving an impression that she knew he would treat her right.
