My non J-rock-y friends who aren't into anything like that find it hard to comprehend Nightmare is an all-male band. Perhaps it is the pictures I had taped to my binder, but even after printing out more pictures, the general population found them veeeery feminine, especially YOMI.
Something I've noticed is that in photoshoots the boys are all glammed up, so they DO look feminine. Also, that's how basically ALL J-rockers look, like girls.
I think this is due to the lack of my friend's comprehensions of J-rock and visual kei.
Mostly, everyone could tell Ni~ya, Sakito, and sometimes Hitsugi were guys, but there was mainly question over Yomi and Ruka.
Discuss:
-was it my picture selection? - their lack of knowledge on the topic? - or are our Nightmare boys downright girly?

It really depends on the pics. There is a magazine shoot where none of them wear makeup. You can see Ni~ya hadn't really the most perfect skin (and he forgot to shave), Ruka, was basically hidden behind sigaretsmoke and a can of coke, though...
I must admit that I found Sakito girly (especially when he wore that belly exposing roundish top). And I have pictures in my collection with them wearing girly clothes (*coughdressesuncough*) I stared at Ruka or the longest time. I never thought I could doubt his sexuality >.< (even though I do not find him girly)
Oh, and part is their make-up, the way the do their eyebrows and the editing that is done on the pics. (Again the pics!)
But most V-kei-ers look girly. Regular Jrockers tend to be more on the, ahum, male side. Have you noticed how they are moving towards that look? Yes, they're still polished and shiney and all, but you can actually see them age (and, given the right clothes, look male)
Rambling. Did it make sense? wink
BTW, I am kinda curious which pictures you printed 3nodding

Ah, recently I had to do a presentation on Nightmare. My teacher too was "Is that a man?" when I showed pics of Sakito and Ni~ya (I had ensured Yomi to be male when I started) and just flatly stated that every member of the band is male.
It was so hilarious, since my teacher knows quite a lot of Japanese people and a lot about the culture xd

Hey, hey sweatdrop ...Yomi and Ruka might look like girls for some of their shoots, but they're completely guy-looking in real life (except sometimes with Ruka plays with Yomi's nipples..lmao rofl ) besides, they're all gorgeous. whee
all the eye makeup does make them look girlish, and Yomi has a face that could be male or female, it's really gentle-looking. Ruka is more beautiful male than girlish looking male.

Haha I knew that all of them were males. I rarely questioned any bands of their gender, only when it came down to Bou from An Cafe (whoops! lol)
Alot of my friends do, however doubt they're gender. They're always going "Is that a girl?" in the end, they just gave up cause... all of them were males anyway. XD Ermm.. yep smile

i believe its probably lack of knowledge, it seems i get the same reaction with almost every1 i go to school with i get the "is that a girl" comment. i also get stereotypes which tend to make me alittle "annoyed" because in the mind of alot of ppli go to school with "girly guy = gay" i really dislike that one. they also believed that i was japanese because i listen to japanese music, which is dumb...lol

#1 All people who don't listen to J-Rock or interact with it whatsoever, will think that they are girls. Beofre I started listening to J-Rock, I thought Gackt was a girl when i first saw him.
#2 In America, they look feminine, in Japan, thats apart of their modern day culture, so they don't look feminine to to the japanese.
