Man, why has this place been so dead? ;_; It's because me and the girls have been gone, hasn't it? Where's Kessa been nowadays anyways? She post here anymore?
As for what's so special about Sync, for me it's the prospect of his misunderstood personality which leaves one open for speculation. The fans themselves build on his personality more then the actual game did, which makes it fun to theorize what in actuality Sync is like. There is alot of evidence that points towards him being a much more sympathetic and gentle person then he initially is, since him and Ion are direct copies of each other, but raised under different influences. That alone is evidence that Sync has the potential to be like Ion, but he was treated much differently and his inferiority was constantly rammed into his head, thus leaving him as he is seen now - nothing more then a tool used by Van, since he does not believe he CAN amount to anything more.
Sync has never had a real friend in his whole life, which is probably why is so bitter and lonely. If you interpret some of his dialogue then you'd see that even though he's pretty much an a*****e, his words more or less scream for help. I doubt a single person besides Ion has worried for that boy in his life.
... and that, in a (big) nutshell is why I like Sync. There is so much you could do with his character, and I always liked his types. You just want to give that guy a big hug and tell him it's okay to have friends. Although I guess he'd probably kick you in the face you tried that spontaneously...

I neglect this place so much. I feel bad now...
As for why people like Sync? I'm going to go ahead and agree with what Eternaldusk said. The fans have built his personality, pretty much. I love that, that a fandom can do something like that, get so involved. I see Sync as the sort that feels he need to not need. He needs to be able to do things on his own, which gives him a sense of purpose. After all, in his mind he was just a reject, a failure, a fluke. And he has to live with that, constantly trying to prove some sort of worth to others, even though he can't prove it to himself.
