law on drugs here is very, very strict.
I don't know anyone that does any kind of drugs.
to make an example, my boyfriend used to smoke a lot of pot in the uk, but hasn't had any since moving back to japan in august, partly because he has no idea where he'd get any, but more because he's too scared of the consequences should he get caught.

Yup, marijuana is almost prohibitively hard to get in Japan, not to mention expensive if you actually are looking into buying some. One friend of mine was once offered a few grams in a Raggae bar in Tokyo (by the foreign proprietor of the establishment, go figure
razz ) at a price that would buy about a pound here in the Netherlands.
Another friend of mine got lucky once in that same city though, his first day in Japan and some Japanese approach him and invite him to smoke marijuana with them. That's just an incident though.
Whenever I told Japanese I was from the Netherlands they would never believe me when I told them I had never smoked marijuana.

When Germany and the Netherlands legalized marijuana for sale in coffee shops, violent crime had gone down, and the amount of people who tried marijuana the first time had gone down, while underage (illegal) drinking went up, no surprise really.
Being a teenager is all about rebellion, why would you want to do something legal? There's no excitement of risk or danger...
Why alcohol is legal... Go fig.Actually...I think marijuana is legal only in the Netherlands, there was a German exchange student living in my house a while back but I never bothered to ask him about it.
