River was exhausted to say the least but she listened to the older females words and agreed with them completely. She was most definatly a motherly wolf and that is what she was good at.
She just laid breathing deeply while looking down at her three new sons, all so beautiful.
"Lets move them now." She managed to get the sentance out without needing to take another deep breath. She made herself stand up and picked up one of the pups in her mouth while trying to work out how to move the other two.

Two weakened females. Three pups.
For a while Sirena was stumped. She knew she could lift one, but two? she'd have to come back for the third.
I shall go ahead with one and find shelter, when I do I shall return to you and together we can carry the remaining two. Hopefully there will be something suitable about. She nodded and waited for River's confirmation before going ahead with the plan.

River nodded, it was definatly the most sensible thing to do.
"OK that sounds like a plan, if you take this one first." She nudged at the brown and blue pup, the only one that resembled River in any way. It was also the one she seemed to dislike a little, he seemed so distant.
"I will stay here with the other two." She smiled at Ren and curled herself around the other two pups.

Obediently the old she-wolf lowered her greying muzzle and lifted the tiny bundle up by the scruff. It's comfortable weight felt somewhat pleasing and the wolf was again reminded of her own litter. Her own cursed litter.
If she were going to live longer than a few months then perhaps she would have aided River in raising them. As it was, she could feel the shadow of death looming over her.
She did not have long for this world. The pup in her jaws would forever be small in her memory, not a teen nor an adult. But Sirena liked it this way, the innocence of the tiny bundle in her care.
Tail up and ears drawn forwards Sirena began a steady path through the trees. Each naked trunk was stark against the snow and since River had returned an eerie mist had come to coil itself around the forest like a grey serpent.
Even as Sirena raised her eyes to peer up at the moon she noticed a thick bank of cloud closing in on it, swallowing it's beauty within a sheath of darkness. The night's shadows thickened and the only thing that could be seen of the wolf was her piercing eyes glinting a luminescent green in the dark.
Her nose twitched thoughtfully, filling with the scent of badger. An old scent. Interest perked she moved from the forest path - known well to the resident deer - and swung into the undergrowth. Being careful not to snag the pup on any vicious branches Sirena slung her head low and pushed herself into the secretive clearing. It was here that her eyes set on the old badger sett, it's gaping mouth yawning wide beneath an old rotten tree. Tangled roots covered half of the entrance but with a small shove Sirena managed to squeeze in.
Inside it was quite roomy and after a moment of snuffling and pulling toether a pile of old leaves she set the tiny pup down and moved back to the entrance. Instincts told her to howl, to announce her success, but not wanting to draw attention to her or the pups she slunk silently back the way she had come, ignoring the pain in her limbs.
A few minutes later and she was once again back to the birth-site, moving towards River with a spark in her eyes.
The pup is safe, the den is not too far away. She lowered her nose to the last two pups and waited River's command. Though she normally felt herself superior, she knew never to meddle with pups unless you had the mother's consent.

River waited curled up around the last two pups, washing them proudly. Oh how she loved them so much.
On Rens return she stood up and nodded to Ren, picking up the other one herself. It seemed that she was a mother again and that pleased her. She was so happy and content.
She looked up at the moon and the way it seemed to be playing hide and seek within the sky. She smiled. Tonight had been a special night and she didn't want it to end.
She turned back to Ren and waited. They would take the pups and find somewhere warm then River would ask a question that had been on her mind for a while now.

Scoopingn up the final pup in her jaws Ren moved after the younger female, taking comfort in the warm bundle she carried. With these pups lay her hopes for the future, a future that she would never get to see.
She quickened her step to walk alongside the female, leading the way back to the sett.
On arrival she heard the squeaks of the pup left inside and as she pushed her way in she set down the other pup next to its sibling, waiting for River to enter too.
They were so close to the borders now that she was wary, but also happy, because she was within a couple days of her revenge.
Not to mention that in a few nights time she would summoned Croanyl to her aid.
