New art! Now that I have homework to avoid doing, I bet I'll be on gaia more. Except my internet at home died. Er... Anyway, new art!

Contemptous

Circus (One of these days I'll go back and fix her face. Mostly I just like the idea, it needs to be re-done.)

Still life FTW. I actually did this like a year ago, though.

Did this a year ago, too. I have no clue why she looks like she does. I don't know. Don't ask.

hm. the first three are so dark, i feel compelled to love them and run away simultaneously, so...good job!

i really like the lower hand on the first painting.

oddly enough, my favorite is the last one. maybe it's just the fact that the girl is holding a kitten, but i really like it.

your painting skills amaze, as always.

You like the lower hand? I'm quite fond of the upper hand. Lots of people seem to really like the one with the kitten, which I did 2 years ago mostly on a whim.

I completley started Circus over again.

I'll copy and paste my description from deviant cuz I'm lazy. "The old one was too rushed. She needed to really come out and I think I captured it better here, and I changed some things.

I've replaced the male clown with a female clown wearing Virgin Mary blue and orange high heeled clown shoes. She makes me laugh. Really, that's the only major change but that does make it an all female circus lead by a male ringleader. Take from that what you will.

I refuse to make her surprised about her circus. "

yeah, i like the lower hand. i guess because the positioning is delicate and awkward while still being incredibly natural...if that makes any sense at all...

i can't really comment on the circus one...i just don't like it, either of them. i mean, they're quite well done (and i do think the second is an improvement), but the concept doesn't really appeal to me. maybe it's the open-skull thing. meh, can't please everyone.

I really need to post more often. Not enough homework to avoid.

Umm, I did finish a new painting. Inspired by Tori Amos's performance of "Me and a Gun" at the Vic on 11/6 and by my ex being everywhere I go.

"Power"
User Image
Acrylic on 18x24 masonite.

I do have control now. I do. Its power I lack. Power I lost after I was with you. In the church. In your closet. Outside the bowling alley. How the hell was it so easy for you? I'm not that weak and your not that strong. Is it because I was young you were able to do that? I see you and I want to see you hurt, I want you to know how much I've gained without you and how despite all you've done, I'm better than you. I stitched myself up. And yet nothing I do can show you how much I hate you and how little you are. My anger fails to consume me and only fuels me further. When I see you, I can't express that anger and hate. I'm sure it comes out looking like fear. I am not afraid. I'm pissed. I'm pissed you look smug. Get that ******** smile off your face. No apology can appease me, I promise. One day I will make you pay. I'll smash you into pieces. For now, I have an unloaded gun and some control.

your works are incredibly powerful. my favorite thing about this, I think, is the cut-off at the bottom. Maybe it wasn't intentional, but it reminds me of a corset; her body cuts off at the bottom of the corset, how interesting to me, especially considering that she's sewed up!

really, the skin texture is exquisite. as always, a beautiful painting.

It was intentional. It was meant to tie it in with "Contemptous", just as the stitches tie it to "Shame". (Speaking of "Shame" I really need to put up a new picture of it. I fixed it up a lot.) Its a small personal narrative. Its odd how well it worked out. Now it looks like "Contemptous is showing how well she healed.

I do like the idea about the corset. I'll have to keep that in mind.

Her skin texture in her abdomen is a complete accident actually. I got pissed off and tried to paint over it with a wash to cover it up and went "Oh, it's done. Huh."

Well, I think I have the emo out of me. I'm moving on to pretty next. I was thinking of doing some feminist biblical characters next, like Lilith.

happy accidents are the best kind. mine are usually ugly and not worth showing off.

funny thing about Lilith, though, is that she's not actually in the bible (not the one that most denominations of Christianity use, anyhow). Or, if she IS in the bible, I want to know the verse and chapter so I can see what it says. Lilith is an interesting character; she's in quite a lot of folklore, gnostic and Jewish.

I'd love to see your painting of her. I'd also be interesting in how you represent characters like Medusa or Mars.
