It might not be the fact that people fight over religion, but it really bothers me when people don't have an open mind to in what other people believe in. Me, myself, I'm a christian but I respect other religions because that is what they chose/were brought up to believe.

I think your friend went a little too far.

Debating and Discussing Religions is perfectly fine...but to fight just because of Religion is not.

Although I agree with your friend, the way they put things should have been more tactful and less confrontational.

The Christian bible is basically a guide to how people should live, by telling stories about how God said so. I think that Christians who say "I dont understand how you cant believe in God and Jesus being the son of God." aern't using their heads, because if they were raised in a Jewish family, they wouldnt believe Jesus was the son of God, but yet some people have a hard time seeing that its just the way you were raised. I was raised Christian, so I have beliefs in God, though I dont believe all the church teachings, I still believe. When it gets down to it, I think the church and its over involvement in government is getting in the way of people just living good, happy lives, without all of those other little rules thrown in there.

Well...I don't have a religion. I don't really believe in anything, it's how my dad raised my sister and I.

But I don't mind religion! As long as people don't try to force it on myself or others or try to use it to take away other people's rights.

I think that people who live their lives around God are way too obsessed, but it doesn't bother me as long as no one pushes it down my throat. I hate that. Go to church, read the bible, I don't care, just stop going around stating that "I'm a ____" as if it makes them better. Gosh, that pisses me off. Real Christians, or Jews, or Muslims, don't go around shouting it out. They live good lives, that's all that is asked of you, really.

I agree with all you guys, fighting over religion is stupid. Believe what you want to believe, I say.

And saying prayers isn't going to get you into heaven anyway

yes they will.
the so-called "sinners prayer" guarantees you salvation
(that is,according to most protestant theology)
I think my views on religion are well represented in my sig.

There is only one way to describe fighting over religion. *headdesk*

It's the most pointless thing you can ever debate upon.

Nobody is gonna admit that their religion is wrong. You just go around in circles trying to disprove somebody's beliefs, and in the end everyone just ends up hating each other.

I tend to avoid religious topics as if they were the plague. The only reason I even looked at this thread was 'cause of the quotations.

It happened to me a few days ago.

But it wasn't a "fight".
More like a odd disagreement.
And it was with my best friend too. XD

Went something like this:
[I stands for her, E is the guy]

I: So, what do you believe? <- she's asking the guy thats hanging out with us
E: I...dunno...
I: Do you believe in God or are you a non-believer like Jenny?
ME: >>
E: Sometimes I do.. sometimes I don't?
I: What? You don't believe there's a higher power?
a little later after much bantering...

I: Well, I don't BELIEVE WE JUST dropped out of the sky! There had to have been a God to make us.
ME: I BELIEVE----------- in Evolution.

I'm all for religion, I am but... not when people act all nice then try to convince me that I'm going straight to some place underground if I don't behave myself in their manner.

I see religion as a giant opinion, which everyone is entitled to. 3nodding

In that first post, I don't want to even take sides between an Evolutionist and a Creationist.

As for religion itself, Karl Marx said it himself: Religion is the world's opium, the "opium of the people." Instead of the workers fighting for their plights, they just sit there hoping. It's all a gigantic machination made so that people will feel good. Religion is basically the most powerful "feel-good" drug, if at all.

Don't get me wrong; I was raised in a family of conservative Catholics. For me, I just get along with morals and try to do no evil (unless provoked).

Again I say it, Karl Marx was right on when he made that quote.
