Nyo raised her brow in mild surprise. She had fully expected a verbal-whip lash. She shrugged, perhaps Kino simply really wanted to learn how to hunt. Nyo blinked at the thought. Was there a secret motive in the black hyena? The lava jueve shrugged, it wasn't her business. What she had to worry about is knocking some sense into this senseless huntress.

Nyo sighed. "We'll wait for nightfall to try again. With your coat, you'll be nearly invisable in the night. It's one less thing to worry about." She curled herself up comfortably, resting her head on crossed paws. "So, Kino, why don't you tell me about yourself?"

Watching the other as she laid down and curled up. Pukukino wasn't beyond resting in the presence of another, but there was something about letting her guard down around those that knew her name that settled like sour meat in her belly. Yet she had given Nyo her name willingly so... there had to be SOME room for fault here and it was only in herself.

Laying down on the ground with her belly picked up and all four paws touching eart flatly, Kino kept it so that she would be able to spring up in an instant. That was always how she was, she would always be ready to spring up and run, just like her mother had taught her because they hadn't lived in a pack land.

"Well.... I've lived with my family until now... but I dont' REALLY know them.. you know? I know my adopted 'father' and my mother, but I don't even really know them either. I mostly grew up running from lions so.... I guess maybe that's why I never learned how to hunt that well? Because we didn't have real pack lands." Kino said, elaborating in a soft voice because she didn't want to tell everyone. "What about you?"

Nyo stared at the sky above, and a growl emitted from her throat. Who was this Kino? And what was with the "until now?" She was actually running from her family?!

Deciding that the only way to show Kino that family mattered, Nyo abruptly cut off her snarl and opened her mouth to speak. Her tone was cool and controlled, but her eyes were flashing with contempt. "I was abandoned by my parents. You are very lucky to belong in a pack, to have others who care for you. Life out in the open isn't for a pup like you. Like I said, I'll teach you to hunt, but you'll be going home afterwards."

Of course, Nyo had no proof that her parents actually abandoned her, although it was what she believed with her whole spirit. How she hated her family for leaving her in the desert, to fend for herself. Never again, would she get close to another, and risk a betrayal like that.

Nyo would most likely bite herself for telling this new hyena about her past, but for now, it didn't matter. If it was the only way to keep herself from bonding to another hyena, then so be it.

"Abandoned? Lucky?" Kino said softly, her eyes turning from the other as she looked away.

Pukukino didn't find herself lucky at all, she didn't know her real father and she was coddled like a real hyena should never have been. It irked her, tore at her spirit, ripped at her heart. All Kino wanted to do was learn to fight, to hunt, to bend others to the iron will that was the boiling blood of a hyena. All of that had been squashed in the earliest light of her life and now Kino found herself unable to hunt as a juvenile when this other could bring down things without the barest of a blink.

What was the use of having a family if you suffered for the mistakes they made when they died and left you to yourself?

"As I said... we don't have a real pack. Just a handful of hyena and each of us has to watch ourselves from the lions that wish to destroy us. Our pack is all about bringing 'love' back to the savannah by showing lions that we are as welcoming as they can be. But lions have proved many a time before that they aren't that welcoming. Why our 'alpha' does it is beyond my mind. I'd rather not be killed because I've been coddled, my 'parents' won't always be around after all."

Resting her head down on her paws, Kino's body twitched slightly from nerves, she wasn't sure exactly how she slept this way all the time, but she fell asleep this way and woeke up this way without too many issues.
