Tobi explored each room, each cupboard and anything that looked like it would open. Nothing much presented itself as 'interesting'. He pulled open a storage cupboard, and on tip-toe peered into the top shelf. There was a box. Looked a little tatty and dust covered... And just outside of his reach. With a smile Tobi raced into the dinning room, took a chair and raced back.

--Kat was sitting at the table with a warm cup of coffee and raised her eyebrow at her son's enthusiasm, so she followed him--

Plonking the chair down he scrambled up it and eagerly grabbed at the box. He blew some of the dust of the top and could just make out in faded gold letters "Candle Making Kit".

FLASH

An old stone workroom.

FLASH

An elderly man, in tatty brown shawl and shredded at the hem tunic. He has a fairly long whitish, grey beard. Blue eyes and a warm smile.

FLASH

Vats of bubbling yellowish liquid.

FLASH

Hands rolling papaya paper thin and then soaking it in some sort of oil.

THUD.

Tobi blinked. His head pounded.

"Tobi? Hun, can you hear me?" Kats soft voice came from somewhere above.

Tobi blinked a few more times and his mum came into a swirling view. He couldn't focus on any of her images that swam before his eyes. He felt her cool hands touch his cheek.

"Come on. Tobi, are you alright? Does it hurt anywhere?"

He opened his mouth to reply but ended up retching. He felt himself rolled over just in time as he vomited. Everything swam at dizzying speed. His head felt like it was going to split in two. The last word he could manage before he blacked out was. "Candles".

Voices bounced off the walls. Young apprentices dashed her and there picking up bits and pieces. Some were standing in the cooling section with there hand dunked under water, 'moulding' something. Masters prowled peering over shoulders at there students work. Some would yell and shout if someone was doing something wrong.

The room felt hot and stuffy. He remembered his old Master telling him, "It's because this is the best way to make Candles, my boy, Perfect temperature to make them mould right, and last longer. Also helps to stop the vat's from going off." The voice trailed away. He looked down at well scrubbed, smooth hands and sighed. Turning this way and that to look around his eyes fell on his masters empty chair......

The scene changed in a blur. An old man, with a long off white beard with a smile hidden under it. And a twinkle in his blue eyes. He was lying on a bed, propped up. He was talking but kept stopping to hack, wheeze and cough. He was talking of the best methods to make Candles and all the secrets that would do them well to listen to. But one boy standing closest to the master was hardly paying attention. He was staring at the floor tears leaving streak marks down his face. His master... His father... Was dying. Although the boy looked to be about 12, he wasn't the masters youngest child. Being a master he could have any wench we wished to share his bed with. And this one, particularly shared his bed right up until he fell to ill to move.

The boy would never make it past apprentice now. Because no other master would take on a deceased masters Son. He'd be left to do apprentice work... For ever.

Tobi awoke. He was in his room, his head still pounded but not so much, it was more like a dull throb. His mother sat at his side and a shuffling of feet told him that someone else was in the room.

"Ahh, your awake." The mans voice was soft and kind. "How do you feel lad? Hear you had quite a knock."

Tobi slowly registered that the man was a doctor, and that it would be rude of him not to reply. "Sore, sir." He managed.

He man gave a gentle laugh. "You would be. Mum here tells me you collapsed on a chair you were standing on, knocked your head off three shelves hit your head hard on the wooden chair and then landed hard on the floor. Your lucky you didn't break anything."

Tobi just groaned. Flickers of what seemed to be a memory from his dream streaked through his mind- Then landed on, "I -hit- myself?" His eyes searched for his mothers to confirm. She nodded. "So... I stayed solid? Not moulded to anything?"

Kat nodded again. "I think it was because you... Weren't in.. What seemed to be... Your right mind? You were gibbering about... Some workshop and old man and... Other things. Then you fell." Kats voice broke a few times as she explained to him.

Tobi, confused and still slightly disorientated about what had happened groaned again and asked to be left alone. He needed to think......

Over the next few days Tobi kept himself to himself. He wasn't really feeling good. He was confused, he kept having the same dream over and over. It was kinda making sense.

The floor of his room was littered in paper, some scrunched up in a ball. Some littered across with half finished thoughts. Tobi kicked absent-minded at a pile in front of him and gently rubbed his face. He still was confused as to how he managed to hit his head AND receive one of the worlds biggest bruises that took up most of the right side of his face and spread around to the back of his neck.

He moved around his room muttering things to himself and occasionally scribbling things down. A knock at the door made him jump and break the tip off the purple pencil he was currently writing with. Swearing under his breath he grudgingly got up and opened his door to find his mother in front of him with a tray of tea, biscuits and four tuna mayonnaise and lettuce sandwiches.

"I heard that mister. You know that's not aloud in my house. And where did you hear such a word?" Kat grouched at him. "And when are you going to clean up this mess.. And when are you--" The tray was snatched from her hands and the door slammed in her face followed by the sound of the lock clicking. She heard a muttered "Thanks." Shaking her head she went back downstairs. She was currently studying the portals she'd heard reported turning up and trying to figure out which one lead her 'home' to the Elven world so she could reclaim her child that had been stolen from her almost a year ago.

After closing the door on his mother he pushed a stack of paper off his desk and placed the tray down as carefully as he could. He snatched up one of the sandwiches and stuffed it into his mouth as he flopped himself down on the chair next to the desk. He looked over bits of papers as he ate, his eyes occasionally flicking to his Christmas gift from Luna. A candle, well.. More then just a candle. It was kinda alive and it moved and... Yeah, well it never came near him because Tobi was afraid he'd melt and he didn't know what to expect if he totally melted. And he wasn't about to try encase he died. The thought made him shiver.

"So. I know that boy is.. or.. Was me. And it's defiantly something from years ago. Because the candles these days aren't all yellow. There white. Unless they add colouring." He'd looked that up on the internet at the local library on one of his rare expeditions outside... Mainly because he never knew where he'd end up as he never looked where he was headed these days. "... Mum mentioned something about... This all being memories from a past life. Possible. But if it was... I was only a lowly candle maker, whose father died and no one would take me on to get passed apprentice. So what's all this got to do with anything. I mean. It's possible it's all true as I'm made out of wax. But. Half the other scroll children are made from something different..." Once again Tobi's eyes wondered over to the candle.

And his thoughts abruptly changed.

"Luna. She's... Well I dunno... Moon child or something." He pictured her in his head. The last time he saw her was at that Christmas party... Tobi suddenly felt rather hot as he cheeks flushed red and hastily tried to push the mental picture of Luna out of his mind. He really thought he was going mad. Every time he thought of the girl he got all flushed and light headed and... Felt odd... In well... Felt odd everywhere. He looked down and flushed a darker red and was glad his mother wasn't knocking on the door now... It could be rather... Hard... To explain to her, why... He sighed and stood up headed over to the window next to his bed and thrust it open gladly gulping in the cool air, hoping it would... Soothe him... And his thoughts. He was only about 14. Why was he having evil thoughts about Luna. His -He hoped- best friend.

Tobi finally had enough of being cooped up in his room. So he snuck out downstairs to raid the fridge and cupboards. When......

Back in his room, leaving mum with the new scroll child Tobi was getting frustrated. Nothing was making sense and to make matters worse he was finding it a lot harder at the moment to get Luna out of his mind.

How long had it been since he last saw her? Months... Had she changed? Did she have better friends then him that actually saw her? Had she forgotten about him? --No she wouldn't have. Right? I mean. She invited him to a party.. Yeah it wasn't really anything major. Christmas. Some old guy in a red suit that's real fat and gets down chimneys somehow without getting stuck. Yeah right. But still... Luna invited him. So she wont have forgotten him. But she also invited that other boy. Tobi grew agitated, what if Luna liked him more? Well there's nothing he could do about that. He'd just have to live with it. Well... He'd still talk to Luna but if he ever showed up when he was with her he'd just walk away. That works. He nodded his head in agreement with his thoughts, as his eyes drifted off to gaze out the window.

Where -did- she live? He didn't even have a number to call her on. Annoyed at his stupidity and the fact he was incapable to even comprehend the meanings of everything in his head. Luna and all that crap about candles. Tobi stormed out of his room, down the stairs and straight to the front door. He paused.

He needed to go for a walk. For how ever long it took and where ever it took him to. He didn't care. Even if he was gone for a week. He was sure his mum would understand. He'd just give her a call and let her know where he was if he ended up staying out longer then his curfew. That being at 10pm. He had a some coins in his pocket and a couple of notes in his wallet, enough to last him a few day's anyway. He scribbled a quick note.

note
Gone out. Be back later. Will call if I'm staying out.
Cya.

And walked out the door, down the street. He hit the intersection and couldn't quite figure out which way to go. Taking a deep breath, shoving his hands into his pockets, he just one and continued on.

Early one morning the household awakes to find the front window busted in and the entire downstairs destroyed. Papers are flung about, cushions ripped open. It looks as if someone had been looking for something rather diligently, despite the fact that no one seemed to have heard the intruders. However, painted on the floor in front of the stairs is a large red cross, a very telling clue.

((Choosing to ignore above post. Will be RPed in Matts journal))

Matt was fast asleep, with Kat idly tapping the bouncer he was resting in. Kat was sat eyes half open day dreaming about the old days. Days that were more relaxed when she was young and rebellious... Young? Heck she still looked young... When she smiled... These days she'd started noticing lines appearing around her mouth and eyes. But back then, she was rebellious, playful, and well... Young. What else do you expect? Old friends flickered through her memory, Kaz, Ollie, James, Marina, Morg and many others. A faint smile played across her lips as the day dream went on. Mucking around in the attic, the laughter ringing in her ears.

Matt meanwhile was working up a fuss. He'd woken up cried out a few times and decided he's a great way to get her attention..... His face started going red, eyes bulging he sticks his legs straight out and points his toes out straight. He grunted and groaned and paused for a break, then started the process over. It took a few tries but it was worth it. The stench brought a tear to the eye and made you gag. It was nightmare material.

Within seconds of the smell reaching Kat's nose, she'd snapped out of her day dream and retched. This was her least favorite part of parenting... Dirty nappies...

Matt cooed and smiled at his ingenious plan. Attention... mwhahahaha...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tobi was once more holed up in his room. He'd not heard from his friend Luna in a while and was wondering if he'd made a mistake. Shrugging off that thought he turned to the paper work in front of him. Home work. GAH... Snatching up a pen he picked up the hefty history book and re-read, ''The History of Gaia'' after the first few paragraphs he threw the fat book at a wall. 'You know, that makes no damn since!' He snarled at the crumpled thing.
''Gaia doesn't really have a history it was only really discovered a few years ago, so no one really knows what's going on. Although we do know that there’s a lot of undercurrent between the Gaians and the 'invaders' they call them. Gaian's used to walk down streets and see semi-normal people. Now they see dragons and vampires and all sorts of ghosts and undead.''
'If I wanted a damn lesson on the here and now I'd open my damn window' He cursed. None of this crap made since. He turned his attention to the Art home work. ‘“Paint two pictures of your choice; make sure it's an outdoor theme." Easy done. Finally something that makes some sort of since!'
Tobi grabbed up his sketch pad and scrawled out a rough scene of a night time beach with waves breaking on the surf, a full moon peeking through the clouds shining down on a silvery shaded person in a silky flowing dress. He placed the sketch on the wall and started to sketch up his second, he pulled down a picture of His mum, Danny and himself when he was younger and placed them in a field of lushes green grass, with the clear blue sky over head sun raining its warming glow down upon the happy family.
A few hours past and Tobi appeared at the dinner table with a triumphant smile on his face and paint smears across his forehead and cheeks and the occasional fleck of color up his arms and on his hands. He proudly held up his pictures, simple yet touching. The silver lady and the happy family. 'Mum. Do ya like it?'
Kat was trying to feed the awkward Matt who seemed to prefer being coated in his food then to eat it. She glanced up for a moment and said 'That’s nice dear, but why are we in the sky?'
Tobi turned the painting of his family around and blinked, 'But mum, where not, were all on the grass.' Placing the other picture carefully on the table he pointed at it, 'Green is grass and blue is sky, don't be daft, mum. It's important.'
Kat placing the spoon carefully back in the bowl and placing the bowl hopefully out of harms reach, turned to fully face Tobi, 'Okay... Either you’re playing a trick on me or you’re being serious. Because I'm afraid to say Tobi but you painted the grass blue and the sky green.'
Jaw clenching and unclenching Tobi managed to snarl, 'Just tell me if you don't like it, mother, because that’s not very a very nice thing to say' Tobi twirled on his heal and just as he was about to storm out of the room he heard Kat say "What colors your shirt dear?" He turned his head to the side and said 'Blue, why?'
Kat sighed, 'I should have known.' She stood up and walked over to stand before her eldest son. 'It's green love. Not blue.' She placed her hands on his shoulder, 'If you mean what you say we better take you to the optometrists tomorrow. I think you're coulor blind." She suddenly ducked as apple-and-rhubarb-slop-in-a-bowl went flying over her head and splattered against a wall. 'I just think you could be color blind, that’s all. And it’s not a bad thing. A lot of good artists are color blind.... And by the way,' She glanced down and pointed at the silver girl in the moon light, 'who’s that?'
Toby’s face went bright red and he managed to stutter 'N-no one, unparticular.' just before he snatched up his paintings and bolted upstairs.
Matt waddled down the hallway to Tobi's room. He stuck his fingers under the door and wriggled it up and down a few times till he heard a 'click'. He pushed the door open and snuck inside.
~~~~~~~~~

A few hours later...

Tobi came walking upstairs with his nose stuck in a book. It was about a dragon and a boy who could mentally talk to it and make it do what he wanted. It was really interesting. Distracted he put out his hand to open his door but couldn't find the nob, confused if he'd misscalculated where he was and if he was looking like an idiot with his arm sticking out the window moving around randomly he lowered the book.... Saddly lossing where he was upto on the page only to find... His book hit the floor as Tobi tensed up and shouted "MATT I'M GUNNA ******** KILL YOU!" His room was totalled. It looked like a bomb had hit it. Everything that could have been drawn on with a red crayon was, anything up high in places you didn't think that the little midget could reach was on the floor his bed, used as a jumping castle... Furious Tobi grabbed Matt as he tried to escape, and punched him as hard as he could in the arm.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Matt froze as he heard the book hit the floor and looked up from drawing on the walls with his current favoret colored crayon, red, flinched as Tobi yelled at him and yelled back "You swore I'm telling mummy!" and proceded to try run past his brother... Who caught him and thumped him really really hard- Which was odd because normally if Tobi hit him, Tobi's first would mold into the shape of where ever he was hitting the boy- But this time it hurt.. Alot, and Matt screamed. Loud.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kat heard the comotion from down the hallway and came storming up the hallway about to yell at Tobi for swearing when she heard the conection of Tobi's fist into Matt's arm and the god allmightly scream that came within the first few seconds of shock. Kat grabbed both the boys by the arm and swung them around to face her. "What in the name of-- What Do you think your doing hitting your brother like that Tobi?" Kat demanded.

"He drew on my walls and destroyed my room." Tobi pouted quite upset, his fist hurt and his heart was racing. He knew his mum would wash his mouth out for swearing and that he'd also be grounded for hitting his little brother.

Kat looked up into the mess and shock Matt who was being held in her other hand, "What do you think you were doing in Tobi's room?"

Matt just shrugged.

"That's no way to treat your brothers things, how would you like it if he did that to your room.

Matt again shrugged.

"GoToYourRoomNow." Kat said through gritted teath.

Matt stairing at the ground holding his arm where he'd been hit slowly looked up at his mum's face. It was going red with rage. His eyes welled up with tears as he realised how much trouble he realy was in this time, he janked himself from his mothers grip and dashed down the hallway to his room slamming the door behind him yelling, "I ******** hate you all!"

Kat's anger seemed to radiate off her face and Tobi swore if he wasn't already slightly melting with fear he'd be melting from the heat of his mums anger. "I'm sorry I hit hi-" He tried to say but his mums sharp look cut him off.

"Hitting him wasn't fair. Your older you should have just gotten me. Then you wouldn't be in trouble. But your grounded to mister for swearing. I just hope I can stop Matt from repeating it to much now." She released her grip on Tobi and was surprised, there was no intentaion from where she had been holding him, not even a slight impression. Kat tried to calm down and give him a curious look, "What's happening?" She mumbled.

Tobi shrugged, "I-I've never done that before mum. I've never been solid. Ever.W-Well exept the time I fell off the chair and knocked myself out cold.... Mum when does my grounding end? I want to talk to someone about this. Or maybe the library. I've not been there yet, their might be something there that might all explain this."

Kat sighed, "Don't worry it's on school nights. So you can go out till tomorrow then the new week begins and you go nowhere but school and home till saterday. Ok?"

"Thanks mum. Can I go now?"

Kat looked into Tobi's room." Sure but dont be later then 10 O'clock. And I'll have Matt get this clean as part of his punishment"

Tobi sat at a table in the library at the M M with a stack of books that he was hopeful would help him figure out what was going on. A few books we on the making of candles and they seemed pretty interesting to him atleast. There was one on metamorphis and another with some huge words he barely understood.

At the moment he was halfway through a book about candles and there history. No one actually knows when they were 'created' but he remembers- Or atleast thinks he remembers- that he used to be one of the members of a candle making 'society' or something. His dad was his mentor or something. It was all so confusiny. Yet- He feels he's missing part of a memory, or maybe theres something he was told ages ago that some sort of secret thing or- Secret? A secret about candle making? Pha.... He paused looking at the load of quack that was written on the pages in the book in his hand. The words got all muddled in his head as he tried to think and read at the same time. It was like his mind was full of cotten buds. Lurking behind each word was a memory bout candle making or Luna.
