I hope this is not wrong to say on this guild but I just need to ask the question, "How do you talk with someone"? I've been on Gaia for over a year and I must admit that I wasn't really into this when I first joined but now that I am I can never seem to find anyone that is on the same time that I am. I would appreciate it if someone would let me know if and what I am doing wrong.

I know there are quite a few guilds on here and maybe I'm just not staying around long enough.

Did you ask this before? Maybe it was someone else. I have a similar problem, because I live in Australia. I don't really think forums are designed for proper chatting anyway. I just have a look at what people have posted, and comment if I feel I'd like to and then come back and check people's responses later. If you really want fast chatting, the gaming rooms are probably better for that...

I agree, the forums are not really made for chatting in the sense that we would all like them to be, or rather some of us that is.
Though personally I am not much of a "chatting' type of person it is rather hard to make friends any other way, and the fact that actual chatting is avail. when playing some of the games almost rather annoys me if only becuase it is infested with "kids". In fact I left one game today because of their attitudes, but that is besides the point.
The only other chatting option there is here is thru "Towns" wich then again you run the risk of deal with "kids" there for I tend to avoid it with all that I can. *sigh*
Othere than that I can't really help you any, it's really a "chat at your own risk" type of thing when you venture outside of the forums.

AuraLynRose pretty much hit the nail on the head.
It's not you, it's them.
The capacity for intellectual, meaningful speech is often impaired by the materialistic driven standards of today's youth. Their lives have been dominated by aquiring stuff. Old world topics of philosophy, timeless classical music, etc. Hi how are you is the best many can muster. This is chatting to them, sadly.
However there are gems online, rare patches where you can reach out on a deeper level.
good luck in the pursuit of delectable conversation.

I am actually quite shy and it takes a long time for me to open up at all. It's my nature. I am more likely to post since it gives me a feeling of being anonymous, in a way. I hope that makes sense to you. Good luck!

I'm the same way, Tillisnut. I have slight social anxiety (wow my brain up and left me today I can't spell for beans... so I am apologing in advance for any spelling errors). I'm a bit better online than I am in actual social situations, work being the one exception.
Large groups of people just scare me, kinda like elevators...lol
And I agree, todays youth can't seem to see pass mom or dad's pocket book. It's sad really how they all seem to be growing up with their parents wrapped around their finger, and there for can get anything and everything they want. And saddly most of the time they don't really need it.

I am never comfortable speaking in public nor do I have many friends. I like to work alone when I can. I was never a spoiled brat growing up. Some kids are like that. They don't learn the value of a dollar like they should if they always get what they want. -- I like how this thread is progressing and I'm likely to post more. smile --

yeah that is the term I wanted...lol
I wasn't spoiled growing up either, and after I was old enough to have a job I had to earn every little thing I wanted that wasn't required for day to day basis. ANd even beofre hand I earned my allowance (if I ever got one that is. most of the time my family coudn't afford to give me one)
Maybe it is just how I grew up compaired to most of todays kids that makes me a bit narrow minded (I know there is a better term than that but. I can't seem to think of it at this point in time... bah), but that doesn't give them or any one else for that matter an excuse for the way they behave. Good mannors and such should be thought and well learned by the time anyone reaches the teen years. At least tha is my personal thoughts behind the matter.

You're welcome. I always try to be nice because I just am that way. I also feel like we are all part of this guild, since we are in a common group.
-- Things are different today, it seems. I can agree on that much.
I grew up in the 80's and things have definitely changed. I didn't have Internet when I was a teenager like they do today. Back when I was that age a PC was a desktop machine used to play games or type out papers. The Internet as we know it didn't exist until 1993. I've been online since 1998 myself.

I didn't get the interenet till the year before I graduated highschool, so late 2000, and even then I didn't get on very much if only because it was WebTv, and my dad allowed us on as a reward for doing things around the house.
Now I live with my grandma but I pay her for my 'net privileges.

I started typing out papers back on high school. I taught myself with a typewriter. The 1st PC we had in the house I got when I was in high school. I think it was 1989. It was a 286 clone with DOS. I used it for papers and played some games. Once I started college, I used the library. That's where I got introduced to the internet. My parents got it at the house in 1998 with an newer computer, of course.
I've had my own PC since 2000, but these days I use a Mac. I've had the same one since 2002. I sure don't miss dial up. I've had cable for several years now.
I live nearby, since mom won't let me move back in again. I am welcome to visit pretty often, however. We get along pretty well.
My old iMac went to my grandma in Kansas. She does pretty good and me and dad help with any tech. questions. (Mostly me, since I'm good with computers.) --
Maybe we'll get up there around Christmas. I'll see how things work out. It's a long trip. 640 miles, so not exactly a hop, skip and a jump.

For as long as I can remember grandma (yeah I have lived with grandma most of my life) has always had a computer. The first being an IBM PC Jr. And we had that untill after I graduated higschool. Sure we had gotten a new comp before then but I loved the old Jr. I learned how to type on it, and all my homework papers where done on it. lol
During the short time I lived with my dad he had the internet but no comp. We had WebTV so that was my first true experience with the internet and that was when I was 15 or 16 years old. So I wouldn't be surprised if I was like some of the kids that run around here, but thankfully I have grown up some what and learn some maners. lol
