(( Just doing the post like this to avoid confusion with post time. Inconsistancies were discussed in PM. ))
The attacks were aimed for the same body since they were aimed for Ichigo's body. Normally, he would have a high chance of getting hit from the lava and rocks heading his way. Which comes down to his weaving around in the air to increase his chance of dodging them. His being able to sense the rock and lava, since they were magically created, helped greatly. The rocks were avoided and little bits of lava hit his clothes; which showed no reaction to them. Showing them to be fire resistant.
The damage to the arena was negligible for right now unless Ichigo's opponent continued to use such an attack.
Now onto the holes and such..
It was apparent that Jean wanted to keep them maintained where they are. Which was start to drain at his magical energy over time. Slowly of course and probably didn't matter to Jean at this point. However, as Ichigo has shown, Jean might need every bit of magical energy he could conserve.
Onto the smoke..
If the simple properties of diffusion, were in place right now, the smoke would disperse. However a peculiar thing would be noticed about the smoke. It was staying put. Which would give off a pretty signal that something was up. A white glow joined the purple glow that surrounded the rock spears and the smoke. The magical energies sustaining the holes were being leeched at. Being absorbed at and into Ichigo to restore his magical energies. Jean was also in the smoke which meant that he was subject to the same energy-leeching.
The leeching itself was small at first and only targeted magical energy at first. However, prolonged contact with it would let it drain more energy at a time and gradually start draining life energy as well. Jean was safer in his dome than in the smoke.

At this point, Jean was merely focused on getting the smoke out of there, so, he decided he'd force it out with simple wind mechanics. His first step? Reform the dome around him, using the swift formation to clear the smoke inside.
After that, eight rock spears would rise out from the ground and would surround the dome, taking different areas around it. Soon enough, they all would begin rotating up the speed of industrial fans, proceeding to blow the smoke out of the arena. The farther the smoke blew away, the farther all of the spears would move away from the rock dome. The dome itself would be reinforced to help protect from any assaults on it and to prevent Jean from being sucked into the wind tunnels. Once the smoke would be fully out of the arena, the rock spears would reduce their speed to something lower: Enough to maintain the smoke out, yet not strong enough to injure Jean.
Once the loud buzz of the hums significantly decreased, the rock dome would descend back to where it was, and Jean would turn up towards Ichigo. The fierce look in his eyes spelled "Bring it".

Well now. It looked like Ichigo's opponent wants to hide behind something nifty. As the rock spears would travel over to the dome, the purple haze would latch onto them and surround them as well as the smoke. When the spears would begin to rotate, they would find heavy resistance from the purple haze. Not keeping them in place, but yet not letting them to go fast enough to produce good wind. Next came the white glow from the smoke that latched onto Jean earlier. The white glow would be begin to drain at the magical energies that Jean was using to sustain his control over the spears, slowing the spears even further. It would seem like that the smoke would stay put for the time being.
The purple haze would also start to seep into the 'ground' into the dome. Jean would start seeing the color of purple all along the walls in his dome.
