Sylphi KumarKakarla Any further ideas for another Groups of People thread? Asides from pirates and celts, I mean. Those are already on the to-do list. Mongols. You want to do it or should I? Genghis Khan is sort of a hobby of mine. You can if you want to, and you can make if a Groups of People thread if you want (ie link it to the rest of the threads). Or, if you want, you could prepare what to say, and I'll make the thread for you (credited only to you). Either way works. Or, I might get around to it eventually. I'm busy with academic stuff now.

infernal_sin Blood`Eternity Stronghearted11 [XxGuardianDevilxX] KumarKakarla Surprisingly, few Vikings' helms actually had horns. Since Vikings fought in close-quarters and in a frenzy, horns on their helmets would have led them to accidently injure their own side often. Some ceremonial Viking helmets had horns, though. That doesn't make sense sweatdrop how does this not make sense stressed Lol, he made a mistake dont pop a blood vessel. mrgreen
You should do the Celtic people, if you want I can write it up since I read a 1000 page book on the Celtic tribes, sorry, lots of Irish spirit in me. mrgreen That would be really cool, of all the ancient cultures my favorites are the celts and the vikings. You didn't mention much about their religion, Odin (Woden, wednesday is supposobly named after Woden, "Wodensday"), Yggdrassil the universal tree, Loki's (trickster god) assassination of Balder, Loki and a giantess bearing three children (Fenrir Wolf who eventually kills Odin during Ragnarok, Jormungandr the world snake who poisons the sea with his venom, and Hel the half undead girl who rules the dead), Ragnarok, and the beginning of the new world. I read a couple books on it in seventh grade and norse mythology has been an interest of mine ever since, though celtic mythology has recently caught my attention. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse_mythology Cool, I'll add some stuff on their religion sometime. Thanks for the info!

The best information I have about Vikings is going to Epcot at Disney and riding the Viking mythological boat ride thing that took 3 hours to get into. =x Sorry I couldn't be much of help, it's not my expertise.

i just read that the Vikings called themselves Norse.
the word Viking was originally a verb meaning "to raid"; "those Norsemen have gone 'viking' the Irish again.
i don't have the source right with me, but i can get it.
so the verb was "vike", and its gerund was "viking".
oh i did also read that they conquered northern Russia from St. Petersburg down to Moscow, and becoame ensconced as aristocratic rulers there; you can still see a striking contrast between tall blond Russians, many of whom are still leadres in government, business, science and the arts, and the more traditional Russian "bear" who is stocky and strong and shares some oriental facial characteristics.

[XxGuardianDevilxX] KumarKakarla Anyone got info on the Vikings? I need. Yeah, so, I started a system. The Groups of People threads. Only two up so far, Ninjas and Vikings. Pirates will probably be next. Nice idea 3nodding . I agree. Maybe you could add the Celts on your list? Just a suggestion. I'm doing an essay on the history of Northumbria, and I couldn't find much about them, but they seem to be very interesting from what I did find.
