I saw it at the store today for 20 bucks and I just started freaking out "Is THIS it?? Is this it?? It's here already?!" because I thought that it might be the uber "cleaned up picture" version Hideaki is so proud of. Now that I see that I was right, I'll be waiting for the uber boxed set to come out that was talked about on the first page.
*can't wait* I haven't even seen comparrision shots yet...

I wish I'd gotten the one boxed set... But there's so little eva around here I coughed up thirty bucks for the non-boxed platinum 1 the second I saw it. Actually, I had been trying to get enough money for the boxed 8 dvd package, but by the time I did it was off the shelves razz . I soppose they won't be selling them now that the platinums are coming out... But hey, I can always get it from the internet somewhere razz .
Anyway, naturally I got it for the revamped graphics and sound razz . As well as the fact that it has five episodes rather than three... Heheh. Btw, does anyone here know Japanese and is able to translate Cruel Angel's Thesis? The translations are different in the series, the movies, and I think the platinum version (although I'm not sure about that last one...). VERY different. So er... yeah?

You saw the whole box or the dvd ... for $20? I've surrendered and am now stupidly interested in purchasing the Eva Platinum Box... freaking art..... ugh.

Eva-Pilot There's no exact date. I estimated that if they release a DVD every 2 months, then the Platinum Collection will probably come out around Oct/Nov 2005. october 2005???... i cant wait a year i need them like.. around Xmas so i can get my family to buy it 4 me... ill just entertain myself with NGE-Ressurection and Genesis Reborn till then i guess.... crying

Borrowing it from a friend and it is superb. The animation quality is at it's finest. It looks like it was just made off the press yesterday. The sounds are amazing, everything is so clear. When I was watching Transfer, episode three, the JR Station annoucer's voice came so clear and coherent, rather than the raw version's low and muffled.
Not to mention, they added a few cut scenes into it, and missing dialogue. I don't know if I may have missed this line in the raw version, but Shinji says "That's Bullshit!", when reference to his father helping our Rei during the first synch experiment.
All and all, it's a good buy. I'll go buy it when I have the chance, even though it seems a bit dumb. I have the so called Perfect Collection under my name, but the Platinum Collection has so many nice things. Every other episode has commentary, and just many other features. It's like watching the entire series with a clean slate and a fresh breath of air. It's good. : D
Although, the raw versions were quite lovely. Brought more of a fan feeling when watching it. I can't describe it, but the original versions seem a bit back in the day. So you feel as if Evangelion was airing on telivision as you are watching it.
