Wow...I just read that whole stack of text and now my head hurts...I could never debate for that long...Kudos, you two.
I don't mind Keiko, but I think she is better suited for someone else (I won't say because I don't want to get into anything right now). I think she and Yusuke make a cute couple physically, but of the flaws that I see with her, the one that makes me dislike her is the fact that she doesn't seem to have much faith in Yusuke, which is something she really should have, knowing what kind of things Yusuke could be in. Because she lacks this, I don't see the relationship going very far. There are people that have a LOT more faith in Yusuke (again, not gonna say right now) than she does and as such, make a better match as a love interest for Yusuke.
There's my two cents. Lilly-chan out!

I was reading along with you guys long before I was even accepted into the guide. I'm so excited to finally throw in my two cents as well!
I'm definitely a Keiko fan and supporter of her relationship with Yusuke. I hear all of this talk about Keiko being selfish, useless in fighting, and perhaps not fully in love with Yusuke, and I have to shake my head in disagreement.
One thing that is so very easy to forget is that when Keiko is first introduced to us, she's a child. She's only 14 years old, and while that seems to be the common age among teen anime hero's, it's realistically much too young to handle any kind of life or death scenario, much less when it involves a friend. Keiko's world consists of family, friends, and education, and that's a very small world. She's perfectly content with just leading a normal, successful life: get a good job, marry a nice man, raise a family.
Then comes Yusuke, whom she loves. However, I don't believe the love is even slightly romantic in the beginning. He's been in her life since she was a toddler, in her heart he's irreplaceable, he's like family. When we first see their relationship, Keiko is just starting to undergo the changes in her body, the hormone releases that tell her to kiss, feel, and be touched by the opposite sex.
We can see that Keiko's group of friends consists of a small group of girls. This is Japan, guys, and not what it is in our current time, in fact it's probably more similar to how Japan was when the Creator was a teenager and growing up. That means that boys and girls keep their distance. No kissing in public, no intimate touching in public (like a more intimate hug), and certainly not being too buddy-buddy. Yusuke and Keiko's relationship is probably a little uncommon and only excusable because of their past together. However, my words above explain why Keiko is so upset by Yusuke flipping up her skirt or making comments about her body. Is he just fooling around? Yes, but Keiko has been taught that sort of behavior is extremely inappropriate.
On the other hand, because Yusuke is the only guy she's close to, when her hormones start bringing all these new feelings, she looks to Yusuke first. A boy she already loves and knows already cares about her. To quote Keiko herself, they're "safe with each other." I believe that even if Yusuke hadn't of died, both of their physical curiosities about the opposite sex would have probably lead them to kiss at some point. That is when their childhood love starts to develop into something more.
Oh goodness, I've already written so much. I have tons of more things in my head, but I'll stop right here and save you guys the reading time!

You haven't really said anything with which I disagree; my stance is simply that a shared childhood doesn't guarantee long-term compatibility, and that love doesn't guarantee happiness. The cultural differences, while relevant, aren't the issue. I firmly believe they love each other deeply, I just don't believe they're going to work out. My dislike of Keiko is independent from that assessment. All of that said, welcome to the guild, and do feel free to let out whatever else is still in your head. I for one am perfectly willing to spend the reading time on it. ^^ Most of my position on Yuusuke's and Keiko's relationship and their personalities is in my debate with HIEILUVER on the previous page, and if you'd like to join said debate and share your viewpoint in depth, that would be twelve kinds of awesome.

I personally don't like Keiko because she just tends to be overemotional in my opinion. Now don't get me wrong. I used to absolutely LOVE Keiko...when I was little.
And I don't know what weird universe I dropped out of, and I respect her devotion to Yusuke, but she's just getting in the way sometimes. She can't really defend herself, which although IS typical in the YYH universe, when you're standing next to Yusuke Urameshi, you could at least aim your slaps towards your enemies, not your BFF/BF.
She also always assumes the worst. Example?
(Yusuke and Botan on roof, talking about Spirit Detective crap, Keiko walks in)
Keiko: Oh, I'm sorry am I interrupting? Botan: Oh Keiko! It's so nice to meet you finally! Keiko: It's all right, I'll leave you two alone.
Seriously! Yusuke saved your sorry butt on soooo many occasions! How could you POSSIBLY distrust him!
And yes, I did read the fan fiction. And no offense, but that just made me think of her prideful. =/
