Kamin Prompt. Quote: It had been quite the day. It seemed that as soon as he had arrived, Kamin had been swept up in a whirlwind, spit out with different Malu at different times and learning many things about his new home from them. The Temple was so different from his birthplace, he had at first thought he'd live a life of sorrow as long as he stayed int he desert. Ah, the desert. That was one of the cons, for sure. The dryness of the region was almost unbearable. There were a few things that combatted the negatives, of course. But all in all, it was an exotic place, so unfamiliar and exciting. Kamin had to seriously question if he'd ever become completely accustomed to the ways of the Malu here, and how vibrant everything was.
It would be unfair to call Kamin's old pack lazy, for they weren't. They spent the day swimming or fishing, and once a year, gathering fruit. They also were avid with collecting coconuts, often stockpiling them for feasts. And they were a highly religous group, spending a chunk of their day praying to their respective gods, or at least contemplating what they could do to please them. The difference between them and the Temple Malu, however, was their laidback style about everyday life. Though they did work, they were much more relaxed with it, not bringing up conversations and not putting in play inbetween.
It would also be unfair to call his homeland a bland one, though it was duely noted that the Temple was much more vibrant, in more wasy than one. The Beach had tropical plants and shells of every kind, but it lacked the rainforst fruits that the oasis supplied, and didn't have such clashing climates right next to eachother. The Malu of the Beach were all of average colorings; greys, blues and dusty browns. Occaisonally, a red or a green popped up, but there weren't as many exotic patterns as around the Temple. And then the views of the Temple Malu... Why they were unbeleivable! The sheer number of gods that were devoutly followed amazed Kamin, for in his homeland there were only a handful whom were prayed to daily. Neither of the places and situations were bad; just .. different.
Shaking a tired head, Kamin let his exauhsted mind rest. The battery of new sights, smells and feelings from the day had taken it's tole on the Malu. And now that he felt he had found his place to spend the night (and most probablly the rest of his life), he layed his chin on his two front paws, and fell in to a deep, peaceful sleep.

Kamin prompt. Quote: He had woken ealier than usual today, having stopped at the brook before heading off to the Temple. Now he sat before the shrine, eyes closed and head bowed. His face was concentrated, yet relaxed; his body respectful yet calm. He was, after all, a laid-back creature, and felt comfortable enough with his god to be himself before the shrine. Maybe not every Malu would find such behavior acceptable, but then again, it was possible the said Malu didn't pray as much as he did. He was, after all, almost always before the alter, thanking or praying to his god. It was the way he had been brought up, living with devout followers does that to you.
The alter had been bare when Kamin had first come to the temple. He'd figured that he was the first follower of the god of oceans to make the place his residence in a long time. Hopefully, that would change someday. If he were to have pups, he could always suggest his god. He wouldn't force it, of course, for any Malu forved into their beleifs isn't a true believer. He frowned slightly at the thought of pups, having gone through that train of thought before. He hoped to be a father some day, and a good one at that, but that would all come in time. At least, he hoped it would.
The shrine, though it had been bare once, was now covered in offerings. A few aquatic plants made their presence in little bowls of water to the left. They were thriving, much to Kamin's delight, and adding an air of life to the alter. The fish he had brought that morning we laid out on the alter top, with a few fruits around them. To the right of the shrine sat another bowl, but this one had a minnow swimming about in it. Though it wasn't a saltwater fish, Kamin hoped his god would be understanding that he was lacking in saltwater supplies. He was quite pleased with his decorating skills, and the organization that he had put in place.
On this day, his offerings and prayers were of thanks instead of request. At first, Kamin had thought he would fail his god as a follower and not be able to take the challenge he had been given. The desert climate had been too much for the partially aquatic creature, and he was contimplating moving back to the southeast and starting a pack with one of the seaside faes down there. Now, however, his god had sent him a Temple girl, one he was becoming interested in. He was sure she was a sign that times would get easier for him if he had the motivation. And boy, was he getting the motivation now.
With those final thoughts, Kamin went back to his prayers, bowing his head in silence. The god of oceans was very pleased with him, and he pleased with his god.

Starbuck meets Aurora. (Star gains a sidekick and has an encounter with her future god. Aurora gains a friend.) starbuck There was a distinct laziness about the creek Starbuck was so prone to pester fish in that put a small germ of boredom in her mind. Usually, she could spend all day every day building little dams and batting at her prey, but today there was just something missing. Could she be... no, of course not. She wouldn't be craving company. She never had! Why should she start today? Deep down inside, however, the pup knew full well that it was indeed a companion she wished for, and not just any companion. A friend of her own age would be nice, one that would follow her around on her daily doings and sneak out to the creek at night to swim with. There was Eclair, of course, the only adult she had ever actually made a connection with, but the age barrier prevented certain things that every young Malu needs.
With a huff, Starbuck knocked the sticks out of the shallow current and waddled out of the water. Her wet fur dripped over the dirt as she walked purpousfully towards the temple, where the new litters were bound to be. The scandalous events of their births were the talk of the gossips, and so their mothers seemed to attempt to keep them away from the wicked tongues. Even the little grey pup herself had made comments about their father, that smooth Vulperomes, and had shunned the idea of getting to know the little brats. Now, however, she had a change of mind. She was assuming, and it turned out rightfully so, that there would be at least one amoung the ten that would be... shy and quiet. One that she could coax into her own little world and lead about as a master does an apprentice. She needed a sidekick.
aurora Aurora had been in a light, fitful sleep, avoiding play with her siblings and from the world. She was a shy creature, delicate in mind and in frame. The events surrounding her birth had taken a toll on her introverted personality, and caused her to take to long naps in the shadows and avoiding contact with all others besdies her mother, Citrine. Such solitude had brought her to spend much time praying, an odd thing for such a little girl, to a goddess that had soothed her in the early mornings in which she awoke and waddled about alone.
She awoke with a shiver, though it truely was a comfortable temperature in the shade. Her shy eyes looked about for her siblings, but none could be found. It seemed that during her nap, the group had run off to play in some other part of the temple while Citrine prayed. It hardley mattered, of course, as Aurora intended to stay right where she was until her mother's return, and then she would totter along the path back to the Nature Pack. With a wide yawn, she layed her head back down to rest.
starbuck The feathered little Maluess made her way up the large stone steps and into the temple. She looked about for the pups, but the gods had other plans for her. A rush of wind brushed her hair away, and her eyes grew wide in wonder. A slow whisper filled her ears, one she had heard before, in the creek. She looked about franticly. "Who's doing that?!" Some trickster was probablly the culprit, yet no one answered to her call. Starbuck... Have no fear, little one..., the voice grew stronger, and the pup grew frightened for the first time in her life. Was she going insane? She was hearing voices, a sure sign of a psycho. What would life be like as a psycho? You aren't a psycho, little one... I am here to help you... To guide..., and with that the voice disappeared. The wind died down. All grew silent. In the corner of her eye, Starbuck spotted a tan little Malu, staring at her as if she were crazy.
aurora Just as she was about to fall asleep again, and hopefully more soundley this time, a grey pup barged into the Temple and started shouting. The tan Maluess raised her head slowly, watching the other carefully. She had not been noticed yet, as her furs blended quite nicely with the cold stone ground. Who on earth was that crazy thing talking to? Of course, Aurora was not going to ask. She was far too shy for such things. Much rather, she held back the question and watched the creature like a television show. Until she was spotted. When the starred Malu turned her away, she paniced and backed up to the wall, breathing hard.
starbuck Starbuck turned her plump body about, towards the shrinking tan thing, and advanced slowly. "Hey there... You're a scandal pup, aren't'cha." It wasn't truely a question, for it was beyond obvious who the shy creature was. Shy, thought Starbuck, how perfect. And alone, too. Antisocial maybe? A clingy thing? Oh yes, this pup was a sidekick in the making. "Don't take it wrong, or anything. I don't have a problem with your mum or anything. I don't beleive in long term relationships, anyway." She smirked and sat down quite close to the other, knowing that they weren't going to move until the conversation was over. The wall sandwiched the poor little thing between a rock and a hard Maluess, and she had no intention of letting her prey go until she had convinced her to play. "Who are you, anyway? I'm Starbuck. Pleased to meet'cha."
aurora "I... I..." All she could do was stammer. Scandal pup? Was that what those wicked things were calling her these days? How she hated society, the Temple community would never know. In older years, she might become bitter with her treatment. Bitter and shy, never a good combination. She might learn to brood in anger rather than talk it out with a friend. And that was why, above all things, she needed a friend. Her introverted personality, however, forbidded her to reach out to anyone; and the circumstances of her birth forbided others to reach out to her. Except for this one, who was blocking her escape. Perhaps this brash Maluess was a gift from the Goddess of Dew?
"My mommy is perfectly okay!" She had shouted for the first time in her life at a nonfamily member, and it was scary. Immediatley, she shrank farther into the stone, and stared up with frightened eyes at Starbuck. "I'm sorry. My name's Aurora."
starbuck "Don't be sorry." Starbuck smirked to herself, planning out her future with the little 'Aurora'. "Pretty name." Her mind was reeling with the possibilities. With another at her side, especially one that was so alone in the world as this one, she could do almost anything. Build an even bigger dam! Corral even more fish! Sneak out and swim at midnight! And in older years, she would have someone to complain to. That, above all else, was quite important for her mental state of being. "And I'm sure mommy dearest is perfectly fine." She smiled kindley, backing up, giving the tan one some space. "So, Aurora... Don't hang out with your brothers and sisters?"
aurora If it hadn't been for the tan fur, every Malu in the Temple would've seen Aurora blush vivid scarlet. No one had ever complimented her before. "Gee, you think so? Thanks." She grew into a more comfortable position with her new and improved space, and smiled. "I don't really like to play with anyone much... I sort of... stick to myself." The fact did not sadden her at all, as it was just the way she was. In fact, she really enjoyed keeping to herself. Though, she would only admit much later, that Starbuck's arrival and company was something she had wanted for a very long time. A best friend is never something anyone doesn't want.
starbuck "Really? So do I..." Starbuck smiled a little more genuinely now, the plotting in her mind done and over with. "Y'know, let's go play in the creek. I'll catch you a fish, kay? We'll have fun. I promise." With a smile, she turned to leave and didn't look back. The soft patter of footsteps behind her reassured that Aurora was following, and would probablly always follow, from this day on.
