Damien stared at the floor while his boyfriend shuffled around only a moment behind him, before that soft curse slipped his lips. A very small, gentle smile drifted to his lips, along with a thought of how to reply to that. ‘Now, Spencer, that’s not the way an angel should talk, now is it?’ he thought, chuckling gently, though it was so soft, almost as though he was simply exhaling. His heart still hammered at a frightening pace inside his chest, his hands quivering slightly. Was Spencer really right, though? The smile fell from his lips. Was he truly safe here at Sinful Wings? Now, his brother was in school as well, not to mention they’d been in the same house quite a while, so they would be more likely to be found in more places, by more people. Tears jumped into those magnificent crimson eyes. It was at this age that the parents always seemed to find the child again, and they were more vulnerable than ever.
“It’s fine…” Damien said in a shaky breath, his hands fisting and opening at his sides, the boy trying desperately to, once again, repress his repressed memories. Each one, it seemed, once gone would flash into his mind for only a moment before being gone entirely, making the sixteen-year-old wince, fists tightening at his sides. When he finally could search the back of his mind – not delving to far, mind you – without something sickening popping up, he felt he could easily just collapse and forget that anything else had happened that day, but he knew he couldn’t. Today was his first real day of school, and he wasn’t going to screw it up anymore than he already had. Of course, he would have to stop the tears that were coursing down his cheeks before that was going to happen.
Finally, he simply turned and slipped his arms about Spencer’s neck, burying his face where the other’s neck met his shoulders. He was so warm, so inviting. So… Not his father. So different from that horrid man. He hiccupped once or twice, failing to take in a steady breath, his tanned fingers entwined in deep, rich brown locks that had so many times graced his skin in the past day. The past day that they’d known each other, had it really only been that long? Amazing… Somehow two boys had gone from classmates, to friends, to lovers, in under twenty-four hours. Well… Perhaps not lovers, quite yet. That was something that Damien wouldn’t be ready for for a long, long time, if ever. It didn’t matter. Right now, all that really mattered was the boy, and the scent of him that was currently soaking across the boy’s slim frame.
“Hey, Spence?” Damien said, his voice sounding weaker than the one Spencer would likely be used to, pumped full of confidence, almost a bit childish now. He finally backed up, taking his hand from the boy’s hair and wiping it across his eyes, leaving them shimmering, wet trails having been paved down from those puffy red eyes. But, he was smiling. That was the best sign of all wasn’t it? “I should probably go get changed, and give you time to do the same. Not to mention I’ll need to call my brother soon, just to make sure everything’s fine at that co-ed school of his,” he said, the confidence slowly seeping back into his voice as he finally, slowly, became Damien once again, the boy who hadn’t been seen in nearly the last twelve hours. He kissed Spence’s cheek sweetly, and slipped out the door, tossing a ‘Au revoir, Love!’ back at the shorter boy as he vanished.
