It's true, characters may have "had some fun" sometime in the movie off screen, but I never really thought about it. In fact, I don't think we were s'posed to think about in great depth! The movie was made (for the most part) for kids, and this stuff doesn't matter to them. It's just like, "Look, they love each other!" And later, "Look at the cute puppies!"

We're probably not supposed to.

But it's fun.

Mostly All Disney movies were made by the use of drugs and sex... so it isn't really all that much of a serprize if they did or didn't have "intercourse" They are all married and had children so they did in some time did have some sexual fun in bed. For example the dalmations had 101 puppies, so they must have done it TONS!!! of times. You could even say that he couldn't keep his paws off her wink if you know what I mean. lol and also Lady isn't really a Lady anymore, but a Tramp. Common she went for the ally stray dog, instead of a well groom house dog. So she likes the more dangerous types. rofl

In 101 Dalmations she only had like.. what 15 puppies? All the rest were adopted after being saved from Cruela.

Isn't that still large for a single litter?

I think it is still large, but not unheard of. -shrugs- It was a good movie either way.

I've never paid really in-depth attention to Disney movies. I just watch them. But that puts a whole new perspective on things...

Disney has a tendency to overlay violent plot cores and sexually themed nuances with layers and layers of kid-friendly material.

The company itself started to slack off a long time ago, but you have to love how there's something in the movies for anyone who wants to look hard enough.

You know what else displays those traits? Happy Feet.

I wanted badly to see that movie. No one else in my family did, and I never went. I'm also curious.

I can see you were expecting something adult, but that isn't really what I meant.

The one thing that really bothered me about it was the discrimination in the emperor penguin community that the film portrayed. The egg of the main character is dropped during incubation but quickly recovered; nonetheless this seems to cause his apparent lack of ability to sing or rather Mumble being tone-deaf. Instead he tap-dances, and this activity is readily frowned upon. It was almost like what he was doing was blasphemy. Indeed the community had a religion; their god was the Great Guin who controlled the levels of fish in the ocean. The colony's religious leader comes to the conclusion that Mumble's unholy acts are displeasing to their god, and he's exiled in hope that the fish will come back.

What our main character "suffered" from was never even confirmed to have been spawned from the dropping of said egg into the snow. More so it wasn't confirmed to have caused the shortage of the fish. What Mumble went through in the movie appeared to me as discrimination, almost like racism or the common schoolyard bullying; omission from certain activities and seemingly unharmful teasing. It reflected how some people can be so cruel and ignorant. But here I'm just using "people" as a pseudonym for the penguins; there were real humans in the film as well doing some pretty bad things, yet I'm not sure what was worse - the ostracism or environmental carnage.

Other sub-themes in the movie included lust, jealousy, religion (as mentioned above) and treatment of the disabled or mentally impaired in our society.

...

I wrote a short review on the movie for last month's newsletter, which was never released due to Gaia's disbabling of the "friends@gaia" PM system. For those of you still thinking about seeing the movie (whether by DVD or cinema), I'll sum up what I can here.

The animation is fantastic; amazing; breath-taking. I could bore you with superlatives for a few more lines here, but you get the point. And you must have seen some movie trailers by now. So you know it's unbearably cute at points, too. As for those of you movie-viewers who are more storyline-aimed, I feel that the plot started out too strong and quickly faded to weak. A few plotholes emerged towards the end of the movie, the three biggest of which ruined my experience. First of all, the guy swims just about halfway across the world. That's simply not plausible. And, he gets released back into his natural habitat with a tracking device after the humans find out he can dance. Then, the idea that fishing around Antarctica emerges through the syncronised dancing of a thousand or so emperors. This sparks many heated debates (this sequence goes for about a minute, hardly doing justice to a process that would have drawled on for many months), and the humans conclude that they should withdraw all fishing trawlers. This is quickly accomplished with no apparent backlash, Mumble gets the girl, Antarctica lives happily ever after.

However, I cannot seem to find another person who agrees with me on the topic. Even the most anti-animated-feature guy I know decided it wasn't that bad after bringing himself to watch it, and so many others that I never would have expected to sit through this loved the film. In storyline, Happy Feet lacks. But it's triumphantly strong in its graphics, charm, music and soul. I don't think I would willingly watch it a second time, but I can safely say I'm the minority on this one. Few, if not no people are going to give you a hard time for seeing this one. And if it's fun, then what's the harm?

Go out and do it, I say.
