Truth be told, Ringu wasn't that scary. It was more psychological than graphic, and with subtitles, the psychology doesn't quite get to you as well. I thought it was funny how Samara crawled out of the little TV on the floor and sort of did a snake dance with her fingers going every whichaways/

when i was in Japan, i got to go to the Toei Movie Village. it was pretty cool; guys acting in samurai drama like Abarenbo Shogun, replica ryo that you can buy, stuff like that...

but back on subject. they had a haunted house based on a lot of the old horror stories: dark swamps, dark hallways, getting locked in a single room with a corpse... there's probaly a lot else, but i don't remember. a friend and i went in (the entrance fee was 1000 en), and two minutes later, we were standing back at entrance to get out, lol... we went in with about four other people, but it was still pretty scary. worth the $10 tho. smile

The Japanese ghost stories are interesting and sometimes scary, but I have to say some of American horror shows/movies are based on real events, and people buy them and are freaked out just the same if not more so. Take the new Zodiac Killer movie coming out soon... sweatdrop

All in all though, I hate scary movies and try to steer clear of them as best I can. I'm such a pansy. xp
