Okay: how old is your computer, what operating system does it use, what programs do you have on it, how full is your harddrive...

Wow.... all the good questions. You know I probably could not answer all of that, most but not all.

She did ask for a computer geek.... sweatdrop

being a computer geek can be a good thing biggrin

Its my streriotype. I'm an Eectronics Technician for the Navy, so maybe I can help.

Spybot ahnd all are good. Dracogames.com has one called process killer. It'll give you a list of all programs running and allow you to stop any. The clean slate is the best option all around though. Save your pictures and music onto disks or an external hard drive first. I use firefox. I've had less trouble with it than internet explorer. If you want to check it out, moxilla.com.

It sounds suspiciously like adware to me. Most of those are pretty harmless, though annoying, although there are a few out there that are a complete pain in the a** to get rid of. I'd download and run AdAware. You can find it and tons of other adware removers at Download.com.

Spybot used to be a great program, but I hate the newest version. I downloaded it again after I had to wipe my laptop due to a nasty virus, and the damn thing popped up with every new registry change and had a bug in which none of its buttons were labeled, so I was working blind as to whether I was allowing a registry change or blocking it. After a week of it popping up every few minutes like that, I uninstalled it.

Do you check for spyware often?

Free software, I recommend using both.

Spybot S&D
Adaware SE Personal

I did have spybot, but the guy who repaired my computer removed it because he said that it was not good.

Did you ask why? Did he even ask if it was okay to remove first?

If you haven't had it or any type of malware/spyware remover, I'd be inclined to think that's a big part of it.

I had problems with my browser having bad popups and these dumb green links popping up when I surfed. Part was because of malware and I switched from Norton to McAfee.

I didn't like Firefox because it interferred with my MSN groups and posting and I got no feedback to get around that. So, I've been using IE just fine, I just do the systematic checks periodically.

I don't want to have to do this again but it looks like I may have to put this computer in the shop because I have tried everything and I had people respond to me and I really appreciate it but the same thing is happening. Like I have money to do this yet again crying . On second thought I am going to do like I've been doing and come on Gaia and stay for a few minutes and then have to leave because I just don't have any more money right now to keep putting out for this computer but thanks for all the suggestions.

Maybe you have a spyware program running in the background,

if you are running windows,

1. Click on your start bar
2. go to Run...
3. Type msconfig
4. Click the startup tab on top at the far right
5. List here any startup items that are checked.
