ive heard from other users that if the character isnt your own, often they spin off and do their own thing, and view it more as a cosplay xd you might get a rebellious little guy or gal!

If I can ever afford other dolls, they'll be based off of characters in my comic.
I then ran into the snag that Raziel would feel a little left out, since he wasn't really based off of anyone... So then I added him in my comic as my favorite character's older brother. XD

I think the personality of your doll would still be the same no matter what they look like. Your dolls personality is shaped by your love and your interaction, not by the varying array of acrylics on their face, although most people like to paint their dolls in ways that accentuate their personalities, the way they look doesnt really mater. As long as you treat them the same, they will stay the same.
An example would be Magdollen, her owner, JuJube, accidentally damaged the dolls head when repainting it, and so she bought her a new one. Magdollen took a few days to get used to the new look, but wasnt really changed in any way, and is just as cute and sweet as ever.

I found a Chii (Chobits) dollfie I beleive, shes not mine but she is adorable.
When I get my dollfie (hopefully! *crosses fingers*) I could cosplay it, she would be the same as a person cosplaying.
What I mean is, I wouldnt turn my doll into Muraki (example) I'd turn him into a guy cosplaying Muraki.....
