There are a lot of books out there that can help you visualize what the characters look like. A good one to use is called: Pict-o-graphix by Michael Rowley. It will also help you learn some Kanji if you're having trouble with those as well. blaugh

I can't figure out a good way to learn hirigana. So far I've just been writing down the character, then repeating the pronounciation in my mind. There must be an easier/more fun way to learn!

Enlighten me.

Arigatoo.

Hello,

I know the feeling. What I did to try to overcome it was to learn words/phrases that are written out in Hiragana instead of learning each character one by one. The benefits to doing this are three-fold: 1) You learn complete words and phrases, 2) you learn multiple Hiragana characters at once instead of individually, and 3) you break away from that monotonous and robotic feeling when studying. For instance, just trying to study the phrase "sumimasen" すみません not only helped me learn how to say it and what it means, but it also helped me learn five Hiragana characters all at once.

Try this method if you haven't yet and see if it works for you. smile

I learned hirigana in an interesting way...although there is no alternitive to studying

the charachter for se kinda looks like you're sitting in your desk or you're SEtting something down on it

the charachter for ka looks like a car going down a hill

There are other...just look for pictures in the charachters that help you remember them easier.

((-is totally loving this semester in Japaese class because its all in Hirigana-))
