Liam grumbled as he dumped a bag of garbage into the trash can at the end of the driveway. The school had sent grades home, and his grade were lower than his parents expected them to be. So of course, his parents assigned him even more chores to do around the house.
"So I feel asleep during a few classes," he muttered, shoving his hands into his pants pockets as he walked back up the driveway. "Just because my grades aren't as good as Meredith's that doesn't mean I'm not as smart." Unlike his sister, Liam didn't care to stay up all night studying. "It's not fair that she's so much better at everything."
He walked around to the back of the house. Groaning, he hung his head. His parents expected him to rake and mow the entire backyard? He guessed it was better than cleaning all the bathrooms in their house. Grabbing a rake, he started his next chore.
"Stupid large backyard," he grumbled as he raked up the yard.
Hours late, the yard had been raked and mowed. Liam plopped down at the edge of the small pond at the back of the yard. Picking up a rock, he turned it over in his hands. "It's not like my grades are that bad." He sighed and tossed the rock into the pond. He sighed when it simply splashed into the lake rather than skipping over the surface. "I never could get that right."
After resting there for a moment, Liam climbed to his feet, dusting off his pants. Right then, something smacked into his head.
"Ow!" he exclaimed, holding his aching head. He looked around and found the smooth rock sitting on the ground nearby. Picking it up, Liam stared at it, brows creasing. Who had thrown a rock at him? "Oh, whatever," he mumbled and tossed the rock into the pond again.
A second later, the rock flew out of the water. Liam barely had enough time to duck out of the way. He stared at the pond, baffled at the strange occurrence. The pond had been empty of fish for years. Liam crouched down at the edge and stared into the murky water. What could be in there?
Suddenly, a head shot out of the water, spraying Liam in the face. He yelped and fell over backward. Trying to dry his face with his shirt, Liam paused upon hearing a giggle. He looked up and blinked.
"Bab... Baby!" he shouted, scrambling to get to his feet. What was a baby doing in the pond? His mind raced as he stumbled into the pond. The baby giggled more as he scooped it up and swam back to the pond's edge. He climbed out, careful of the baby. "It's very dangerous to-" Liam stopped when he got a better look at the baby he held. "W-What are you?"
The baby merely giggled and clapped his hands. Liam could only blink down at the baby, trying to figure out what it was exactly. It looked kind of like a goat with stubby little horns and a coat of white fur, but its tail looked like a fish tail.
"What am I supposed to do with you?" he wondered as he adjusted his hold on the baby. It curled up against Liam's chest and let out a little snore. "I guess dry you off and find you a place to sleep," he mumbled with a sigh. He would worry about explaining things to his parents later.
I felt like writing the idea out since it popped into my head. I also added some abilities to Cornelius' profile.
